I loved it at 18 but I really appreciate it at 50.
I used to love it at 18, and at 50, I still do

This version was so good it's, um, *flaming.*
Lip smacking good
You’re flaming…. Lol I’m kidding.
My lips are on fire now. Maybe it's Tabasco
Such a good cover.
@@dylanvib4 It really is. Perfect.
This song has never been done better.
A band literally at the peak of their creative and musical heights. Amazing how connected and tight they were from later 96 through mid 98.
Ahh the young Ben Folds. The 90s were the last time the major labels cared about talent
Bullshit, there was great music in the 90s sure, but 99% of the signed bands were utter shit. Have you forgotten what the charts were like? There's way more good bands being signed now. The internet has done amazing things for music, it allows bands to reach us without having to catch the ear of rich guys working for major record labels.
@@awwcomeonman True, talent can reach us much more directly now. Jacob Collier would not have worked in the 90s without home studios and CZcams.
However OP is right that major labels look for the broadest appeal possible now and there isn't money to be made from niche talented acts.
@@awwcomeonman exactly. the reason people think music was better in the 90s or 80s or 70s is because all the best music from those decades are timeless. In 20 years we’ll only remember the very best music from the 2000s and people will be saying the same thing about now as we say about then.
@@degrassi420people already saying that about shitty emo and punk pop bands of 2000s
How these three guys could fill a room with sound...
Having a jazz backbone does that. Cheers.
They were great songwriters. Forever and Ever Amen was a masterpiece and Reinhold Messner had a lot of interesting stuff too.
I love the key change in this, the chorus starts on the note E, the third of the chord C major, but in the last chorus there's a real lift and the key modulates to A major, but the tune still starts on the note E, now the fifth of the new key.
So the melody stays in the same range but you still get the feeling of lift which comes with the key change.
Then half way through the last chorus it switches back to C Major. Cheeky.
We get it, you're into music!
@@timsullivan67 and how dare he know a little theory
Does the key change happen they all start singing "Tangerine!"
@@joslinnick Yes! Then changes back on the the third "Tangerines". I didn't spot it first few times of listening, I only spotted that I couldn't sing the same harmony line so something had changed.
@@SmartStr33t Thanks! I'm trying to work this one out by ear, and it's definitely a tricky one. For some reason, the jazzier chords are just more difficult for me to hear.
Such a great version of the song
Best cover/improvement of a song ever!
To this day it is the song I use to test recording software/practice three part harmony
Absolute legends.
2:35 is the best part of this, the modulation is amazing
I’ve always loved Ben and his playing and singing. But I’m always knocked out by Darren and Robert. Playing drums or bass and singing at the same time is NOT easy. Not that playing piano the way Ben does and singing is easy, but there’s a reason there aren’t that many singing drummers or bass players. Those guys are so underrated.
Wow…!!Their version is much better than original one!!!
Awesome💕
Much better than a classic song? It's different, but it's not much better.
While I now prefer the original more than this cover, I am happy that it introduced me to the song and flaming lips in general.
EXCELLENT VERSION!
the lad who starts moonwalking at 1:54 is still the legend of this clip.
losing my mind at this
Really enjoyed this ❤️ thanks lads 👍👍
Love this song hah
Amazing song!
50x better than the original
Wrong but ok

Wonderful cover Song.
This feels Bossa Nova and I must admit, it's way better than FL's.
LEGENDARRRRRY
Éste cover realmente es bueno, pero en vivo lo es aun más ♥
these all look like alternate universe versions of the same guy
Better than the original. I love this version.
Better than the original
wow what A re fined per form ants in deed❣
Does anyone know if sheet music to this version of the song exists?
the dude dancing in the background.
피부가… ㄷㄷㄷ
They deviated quite a bit from the original but I daresay it works
they let the drummer sing while he was hanging on.
No
Ridiculous..
In good way or?
That's kinda the point, billy boy.
Ridiculously good, yes.
