@@BoondockGore I guess the styles are pretty similar. I do think it’s more fun to watch a guy use speed and distance management effectively when he’s shorter than the rest of the competition. Plus trading punches looks a lot more dynamic at featherweight.

@@scottydog771 Maynard was bigger than Bendo, just lucky for Frankie as it turned out once he finally hit Gray, he didn't have much of a chin from cutting all that weight. Bendo used to cut from about 175-180, meanwhile Maynard was cutting down all the way from 190.

In my small town of Denman, NSW Australia, Volk Ortega was shown live at one of the pubs, my insane experience being around Full-Blown Aussies watching Volk escape Ortega sub attempts can never match anything I’ll ever experience again
I’m from brissy and even in qld it was bloody hectic. One of the biggest adrenaline dumps with the up and downs. And even though volk was i performing so well,it was impossible for us to not be on the edge of our seats. I go to the pub for every fight and have for years. And round 3 was the most electrifying as of recent, even well above the lfights with chandler and poirier. The only thing that’s came close was edwards knockout to usman as it was an utter shock. If volk won against Islam I could’ve seen everyone getting kicked out eventually from getting too pissed. We need rob and volk to win at 290, And have rob take the title of issy in Sydney and have volk fight another contender. There’s a lot of things that have to live up, but would be one of Australia’s greatest sporting moments if they could pull it off

Maynard ripped through everybody up until those battles with Frankie, but he started getting finished after that.
Nobody is invincible and everything takes its toll, especially with time & physical stress.

That Matt Hughes slam on Trigg was a thing of beauty. Trigg actually originally got the dominant position from an illegal cup shot that went unnoticed by the ref so it felt even better to see him get out and display his insane strength. Miss these days of UFC ngl.

He almost got finished twice and still clearly won the round (and almost finished Ortega).
I was working when the fight actually happened so I checked the result before I ended up watching it (dumb but the curiosity was too strong). Wish I could have actually watched live not knowing if Volk would get out.
Volk said the triangle wasn't nearly as deep as the guillotine. It was a hell of a lot more impressive he survived the guillotine. Dude's head was turning blue.
But with the triangle, you could see it in his facial expressions that he wasn't going out from that one. It was just an added cherry on top that he survived it

Bro herb kept on asking Ortega how many fingers he was holding up and he was just looking off in the distance then said like 2 different numbers and let him keep fighting it was so wild, I wanted Ortega to win but Volk is just a absolute beast. That loss has aged well already cause volk is on a tear right now and is P4P, if volk can beat Islam hes easily on his way to the GOAT list.

Volk has improved so much, even since the Ortega fight. I was in attendance for 276 and watching his speed in real time was absurd, and for him to put such a striking clinic on Holloway was unreal to witness in person.
When Volkanovski survived the first one, I wasn't surprised because I could see how much he was fighting it and would rather have died in that moment, but when he got caught in the second one ... and then came back and smashed Ortega... oooo boy

When Ortega had the triangle, some elbows would have been perfect. He didn’t pull down on volks head so the triangle didn’t have its full effect but some elbows may have given volk a huge cute or possibly knocked him out (I also realize Ortega was gassed and before he even had the mounted guillotine so he was definitely not even 50% there).
I can't recall elbows from bottom guard ever knocking someone out. Hurting? Yes, but never KO'ing them. Elbows would have helped Ortega yes, but would they have allowed him to secure the triangle? Debatable given Volk's own grappling skills.
