      I started playing them based on your comment from the letters quiz. I've enjoyed it quite a bit, except there are certain things that I don't want to know. I don't want to know the 21-30th largest city in Indonesia or Poland. That seems far down a slippery slope.
      On the US one, which doesn't have a lower limit on population limit, I think there is exactly one Rhode Island town that starts with the letter F...and it has fewer than 5k people. I don't want to know that trivium.
      It's Foster, RI.
      p.s. I realize this is my problem and not yours.

      @@og1e816 so Johannesburg is a very large municipality which has a large number of "places" within it, including the place of Johannesburg which has a much smaller population. Soweto is actually the largest city proper place in South Africa.

    Discovered your channel today and binged so many videos! Surprised that you knew my hometown Gelsenkirchen :)
    Some fun facts about it: it was the founding place of the first blood donation center in the world, it was one of the biggest coal mining cities in Europe, it’s the poorest city in Germany and it houses the most modern arena of the country.

    I've heard of Ordos as a place in Inner Mongolia, which probably explains why it doesn't sound Chinese. I think it is where the gold for the medals of the 2012 Olympics in London was mined.

    So weird that places in USA are listed by which state they're in when that's completely irrelevant. Plus none of the cities have the country specified anyway. Sometimes they just do weird exceptions for USA that makes no sense.

    Great job on the quiz! As always some pronunciation advice even tho I think I specifically said these two places before. In Mandarin, all "-zhou" cities are pronounced similarly to "Joe" in English. It's not "Jow". That would be spelled "zhao" in pinyin. Secondly, with "gli" in Italian the g is silent. So Cagliari is pronounced "CULL-ya-ree", emphasis on the first syllable. Definitely not "Cag-lee-AH-ree", that's literally painful :D

      I’m a Russian native speaker, I can speak English and I’m learning Spanish. I notice that a lot of times I grab the wrong pronunciation (Rio Gallegos) or incorrect gramma (No Bueno) from English-speaking channels, I try to use it in my life and discover that what I learned was not correct!

    • @MrQuiz
      @MrQuiz  Před rokem

      Sometimes the city populations can vary from what you expect based on the way populations are counted, especially with city vs metro populations, how suburbs are managed etc. Every country is slightly different so I try and be exhaustive. And sometimes my fingers just need to keep moving while I think! 😂
