    This was one of the best monologues in awhile. She didn't try too hard to be funny. Just talked about herself and her family. Felt very organic.

      @christaylor9095 Před 5 lety +29

      @zan zy, your comment original comment made it clear to pretty much everyone that you didn't have anything of value to say, but you couldn't let that, or good taste & judgement, stop you from commenting anyway.

    • @christaylor9095
      @christaylor9095 Před 5 lety +28

      @zan zy, my feelings are fine. You're the one that's butthurt that people liked something you didn't. Humor isn't fact based. It's opinion based. Your acting as otherwise is childish, leading me to think that you are, in fact, a child. If you're an adult or even adultish, you should just grow up. Bitch.

    • @christaylor9095
      @christaylor9095 Před 5 lety +9

      @zan zy, no, I did address your "point". The fact that I am correct and you are not does not mean I didn't address it. Again, very child like. I'm still not certain whether it's because you're and actual child or just an incredibly immature adult, but, in the long run, it doesn't matter. You should stop commenting about things outside of your intellectual grasp, and frankly, that may well be pretty much everything on the internet. Bitch.

    • @christaylor9095
      @christaylor9095 Před 5 lety +14

      @zan zy, again, YOU didn't find her funny. You don't get to decide for everyone else, and a quick scroll through the comments finds that other people did find her funny. You aren't very good at this.

    That was a refreshing change of pace for a monologue on SNL. Usually the host will come out and burst into a song and/ or dance, or go off into the audience or backstage. I liked that she simply came out and said a couple of humorous anecdotes and ended with a nice shout out to someone who inspired her greatly. Very nice.

      I thought what she said was heart warming and nice, but unfortunately I don't think she's a very good actress. Crazy Rich Asians is a fun movie and I think Constance Wu is fantastic. She's really talented and she does a great job in Fresh of the Boat, but Awkwafina was not good in CRA. I also saw her in Ocean's 8 and her performance there is similarly mediocre. Can't say anything about her rapping as I've never heard it and I don't really listen to rap anyway so I probably wouldn't be a good judge.

      It was, the sketches were weak, you could even see it affecting the performances of the cast, which is a shame as they do their best, but you can only go so far with a weak script. I'm not a scriptwriter, or a writer for that matter, but the writers can and have done better. To be fair to them though, the mood regarding what happened with Kavanaugh certainly made the audience feel a little flat.

    • @licoreen
      @licoreen Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah, I wouldn’t say it was “awful,” but I just was not ready to laugh about the Kavanaugh appointment yet. I think that cold open set the tone for the show. I did like the dance battle and the Presidential text alert sketches, though.

    • @kikiKaysie
      @kikiKaysie Před 5 lety +1

      Awkwafina was great but I only liked the monologue and the Mikey/Alex Trump brothers sketch this week. That was about it. I'm a yuggge fan too. But I think the writing gradually declined after the election. The last solid episode was Sam Rockwell. Every sketch was funny. Loved it!

    Yo Awkwafina has some stage presence! Mah gurl!! SNL monologues now have to have some kind of other schtick to them, like a song or some prerecorded shit or the other cast members have to come out, so it’s great to see just a pure, unadulterated monologue. She did better than Jennifer Lawrence, I think.

    So this wasn't the best SNL, and I feel kind of bad for Awkwafina. The monologue was fine (the jokes weren't particularly funny, but the points she made were salient and respectful), but she seemed nervous in some of the skits and the cast/writers didn't do her any favors either. Most of the skits were just flat. I'm not trying to be a hater but Leslie Jones is not improving and every time she blows a line, it's extra-distracting because we've almost been trained to expect it. Which is weird because I have seen some skits where she really did nail it.
    But back to Awkwafina, I hope she stays grounded and doesn't get caught up in herself. She's extremely likable and I'd like to see her host again in the future.

      Joe Chen Interesting on how you eagerly specifying the difference between Asian and Asian-Americans. Jackie Chan is not an Asian-American but his rare success as an Asian here in the West benefited community in general, in which Asian-Americans are part of it. This even applies to Crazy Rich Asian itself, Henry Golding is British, with Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Cheung both from Malaysia. It's about broadening opportunities of all Asian actors/actresses in the West, not just Asian-Americans.
