For the record: the creators of the show made twitter accounts for Penumbra and Miss Heed, and regularly made posts that expanded their respective stories within the show.
Yeah I found out about that recently. You'd expect Miss Heed to be the one with interesting lore, considering she's connected to Flugs' backstory. But in reality her posts are mostly just normal influencer stuff. Penumbra's posts on the other hand have entire plotlines and character arcs.

I like the fact that throughout the series Flug seemed like just a regular minion, but then in the finale we see that when he fights seriously he can beat Dimensia. Then at the very end we find out that he used to be the archnemesis for someone who's supposedly the greatest hero in the world.
Hi, a little bit of background of the Villanous series, iked the reaction BTW:
1. Black Hat Org. It is an organization in charge of the planning, manufacturing or creation of everything related to villainy and villains, the boss in charge Black Hat is basically the boss of bosses, the first and darkest villain of all, never defeated to the point that He likes to profit from his services, there is where his team comes in, Flug, a passive scientist but with the ability to create machines capable of stopping any hero or villain, Demencia, a mutant girl who has a love obsession with Black Hat and 505 who is a Flug experiment trying the most evil animal of all but that went wrong and became the most tender and kind being of all, the reason why they keep it is that it serves as a distraction for Black Hat and also for torture by testing the new ones. weapons of the organization by being literally indestructible, (in a conversation with the creator he mentioned that Black Hat wanted to destroy him because he was cute but because he couldn't, he took him as a pet/test subject)
2. The first tests of the cartoon were done as commercials for the organization's products, sales of weapons for villains, training guides for henchmen, etc., in fact in the episode where we meet Penumbra and Sunblast (canonically as the first episode of the series) when the organization's characters appear on the screens, they are actually commercials made for television.
3. The reason why many characters owned by CN appear is that this series, during some shorts known as "The orientation videos for villains of B.H. Org." made it clear that Black Hat trained and said that the villains of all these did wrong. and why they lost, even showing how in the end the organization defeated each of them, an example is in the episode "The Lost Cases of Beach City" it literally ends with Flug destroying Peridot and Jasper's gems for not being worthy material. of villains, with a blender. He's serious, he smashes them and shows it.
4. The series had problems with the animators and other issues, so the series has been on hiatus for 5 years, but in terms of content such as comics, spots and presentations by the creator, information has been released making it clear that there is second season will be serial and with continuity.
Villainous is a multimedia franchise, the story of side characters continues in comics, arg and novels

I very rarely see cartoons that are from south of the border. The only foreign cartoons I’ve seen are all from the eastern hemisphere
Fun fact: Dr. Flug on the Latin American dub had the same voice as James from Team Rocket, so on the Latin American dub had some Team Rocket related jokes coming from Dr. Flug, like on the Sunblast episode, when Sunblast beat them and send them flying he screams what would be "Team Blackhat blast of again!"
9:03 Billions of years, maybe trillions and more. Alan said, Black Hat is older, than ANY of characters that we ever seen in Villainous. That means he`s older than than Marceline`s father, older than Aku, older than Malum Kranus, older tha HIM(from Powerpuff girls) and, yeah, older, than CTHULHU HIMSELF! Yeah, Cthulhu is one of BlackHat Organization clients, that was shown to us.
You know that show was no where to be found in English the english version is fully lost but the Spanish version is really easy to be found but im glad you guys are reacting in English! But if you guys look in the lost media wiki for this show it will tell you that it is completely lost but in 2023 it's partially found well for now!

OMG I was so excited seeing this! Kinda disappointing they didn't watch the Villain Orientation videos before the HBO series.
Good old times
the context for all the cameos is that Cartoon Network shows have always been interconnected, and Black Hat is essentially the big bad for the entire CNverse. There's a few vids (Spanish only) where he details the villains of various CN shows (and it reveals that they get all their evil tech and gadgets from him, Black Hat's a retired supervillain who just supplies stuff to other villains).
There's also many shorts (also sadly Spanish only) where he advertises various evil devices and tech for villains to buy, one of said shorts is where the buff Jojo Black Hat originated from (advertising a machine that materialises the most evil thing you can think of, buff-Hat came from Demencia using it)
Fun fact: black hat has the same va for both versions and his voiced by the creator
I'm pretty sure Markiplier also voiced buff Black Hat.
Oh and the reason this show had a style similar design to helluva boss and Hazbin Hotel...
BOTH creators were inspired from the same show, i.e The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

I'm gonna explain how they know Black Hot.
In a promo for the show they were advertising a gun that can make your biggest fear come to life, but in reality the gun can create anything you imagine come to life. They used the gun on Dementia and that created Black Hot.
In the Q&A promo they asked what happened to the Black Hat clones and Flug confirmed that Black Hot escaped from the Organization, leading to this episode
You guys should seriously watch both the shorts (it adds context to a lot of scenes throughout the show, namely the 'Jojo episode'), and/or the "Villain Orientation Videos: The Missing Files of ---" which covers the main villain crew judging other villains in their respective shows. It gives us much more insight into our main cast of characters, and the fact that Flug is a real threat. It's in Spanish but has English subtitles, so you should be good!
As a Mexican, I'm glad villains can be enjoy in any part of the world

They don`t get the Beetlejuice reference(while Demencia dreamed about marriage). Reference to BJ and Lydia webbing.
The creators gave Penumbra and Miss Heed instagram accounts. I think we all expected Miss Heed to have more lore involved with her, but her stuff is mostly just her being an influencer. Penumbra's story on the other hand is way more interesting. She seemed like a one-off villain but she honestly might be the most heroic character in the show. I mean she did cause the main problem she's trying to fix, but still...
If you want a summary then from what I can tell 4 or 5 years ago Penumbra did an experiment that went horribly wrong. It gave herself and many others in the city a conditions that causes sunlight to harm them. These people are collectively known as umbras. Penumbra's been trying to find a cure ever since, and she invented a lot of weather technology to block out the sun and help keep people from dying in the meantime. After her episode she runs into Flug at a villain convention and the two become friends. He eventually finds and sends her the real shrunken Sunblast (after she finally realizes the lightbulb wasn't a person). At first Sunblast resents her, but then he finds out the whole story. It seems like he didn't previously know what umbras truly were. As a result he slowly warms up to her (and her pet mouse Curie). The three of them become an oddly endearing found family as Penumbra works towards both curing the umbra and returning Sunblast to normal size. Penumbra also gets attacked by many superheroes who want to take Sunblast's place as the town's hero. She beats most of them easily thanks to op gadgets and intel she got from Flugs, but eventually she gets captured by Miss Heed. Luckily Sunblast and the mouse save her somehow. That's pretty much the full story.

Well as a Mexican girl living her whole life here in México i feel the need to point out the references. First, Alan Ituriel the author voices Black Hat in the og spanish version and english version. On the monitor you could also see the Minecraft icon cuz we all love minecraft, c´mon who doesn´t?. You could also see a ton of references of cartoons like Scooby doo, Regular show, Billy and Mandy and that´s because here in México we all rised with Cartoon Network. You could also see references of movies, external shows and detailed shots of cartoons just like the Iron ball talkin. Also some anime references bc let´s be honest, most artists here in México are Otakus so yeah...(me too) Of course, the most relevant references is in 5:38 wich is a parody for Mexican tv novels wich are always in a Hacienda, the fun things is that the woman says "what´s with this rose?" referencing to the mytical "Y esta rosa?" from one of our longest tv shows ever, La rosa de Guadalupe wich is a religious tv series, in each episode with different plots something bad happensa (could go from bad grades up to mere death and wild crimes) and by praying to La virgen de Guadalupe she grants the miracle and a white rose appears until it´s fullfilled. Also in the wrestling episode wich is called "La VVV" is a joke to both The WEE (know in México also as the W) and "AAA" (read as "la triple A"). The reference to the similarities for the Main caharacters with Foster, KND and Grim ones is really funny bc haha the fanbdom was making those jokes so they just used them. Also 19:56, another Jojo reference.
As you could see, México actually has a lot to offer but due to lack of support for artists only Villanos made it and it took a lot to make it happen.
The seal is already broken, so hopefully we'll get more media south of the border.
Anime started out as fan dubs. Fooly Cooly on Adult Swim was massive along with Dragon Ball Z.
Now? There are so many dubbed anime, I couldn't watch them all if I tried.

Though, I must say, you really should watch the shorts and 'villain oriantation' videos. In my opinion, they are SO MUCH funnier it's crazy. The villain oriantation videos are also crossovers with other shows like Adventure Time or Regular Show(I don't know if they contain spoilers from where you are at, people can let me know in the comments) and they are insane

A couple of the characters had social media accounts related to the show, like how Helluva Boss does, and some of them either lead up to an episode like Heed's while others followed after an episode, like Penumbra and Sunblast.
Villainous was a project since the 2010's the whole Vivziepop universe started like in 2015.
So, no. Viv was the one copying the homework of Alan.

The mexican dub is more spicy with a couple of very explicit sex jokes (due to cultural reasons back in the 90's the dubbing use to add a lot of sex jokes in Cartoon Network animations but that change after 2005).

That is not all. There`s: Some short animations, like, advertisment of BlackHat Organization and villain orientated videos, where great lord Black Hat and his servants analyze incompetent villains, like that lemon loser from Adventure Time, Aku from Samurai Jack and so on. Also, lots of secrets, ciphers and secret sites and behind this all there`s a really horrifying lore.
They should binge watch we bare bears, that’s was one of my favorite shows. Seems like they’d like it.
I'd recommend OK KO before We Bare Bears. It's not bad, but it certainly wasn't awesome like Regular Show and Gumball.

For those who do not understand the rose scene, they are parodying a Mexican soap opera called La Rosa de Guadalupe, where most of the episodes they had the same actors, bad performances and situations where the characters end badly so that almost at the end they they pray to the Virgin of Guadalupe and out of nowhere a white rose appears and their problems disappear
