- Today's podcast is a very special one on Tata Motors. Editor Sirish Chandran and Adil Jal Darukhanawala start with the brand's history in the mid-1900s. They also talk about how Tata Motors almost collaborated with Porsche to manufacture the Beetle in India. Then came Tata Motors' famous tie-up with Mercedes to manufacture trucks in India. This tie-up set up the base for Tata Motors' truck business in India, which then later allowed them to start manufacturing cars like the Tata Sierra and the Tata Estate. Then came the iconic Tata Sumo and the Tata Safari. Tata Motors then shifted focus to small cars, starting with the Indica, the platform of which is still in use by the Nexon. Adil gives us an insight into how the people within Tata Motors contributed to its image and success. All of which later helped Tata Motors acquire Jaguar-Land Rover from Ford. They also talk about the Punch, Harrier, and the Safari, and how the entire Tata Motors' portfolio is five-start safety rated, making it one of the safest car brands in India. And then moving on to upcoming cars from Tata Motors like the Harrier.ev, Curvv, and the Sierra. It's a long podcast, but this one is really, really special.

Which is your most favourite Tata car or SUV?
And also let us know below which brand or car/bike should we cover in the next podcast.
Safari storme and Hexa .
Tata should know if they launch them even with same design with some tweaks (for regulation purposes) there are buyers.
Tata Nexon. It changed their company.
My favorite has always been the Safari 👍🏼
U didn't talk about avinya,any reason??
Do you think it will not make it to the market.
I am saving money for it😢😢.
Tata Hexa and now Tata Nexon.
Wow, what a podcast, Adil is a library of Indian automotive history. Please do more podcasts of this kind.
He's truly a treasure trove on knowledge! More podcasts coming right up!
This is one hell of a podcast that I have seen till date. Its like reading a history book of Tata Motors. What an excellent narration from Adil. I don't even how nearly one and half hour went. It went like a minute.
Thank you so much Naveen! Do let your friends know about the podcast!
This is simply awesome. Not a minute wasted. Don't worry about how long the podcast is, I watched it in small periods over a day and loved it. If its not too much to ask for, can we have Adil's thoughts on all the failed manufacturers, GM, Ford, Chevrolet, Opel, Mitsubishi, Peugeot etc. etc. on what they could have done right. Sirish is also extremely knowledgeable. Say 20 years down the line, Sirish is going to be in Adil's chair with some young bloke asking him questions and he throwing out pearls of wisdom. You guys absolutely rocked it.
Thank you so much Arun!
Awesome, I love Adil saying.."sometimes we are critical and harsh, that is because we love tata motors" 🤣 Yes, we love Tata ❤
Haha! So true, and yes we do love Tata Motors!
Sirish and Adil Jan Darukhanawala are always a fun duo to watch!
Amen to that! Can’t have enough
It always feels nice to see Adil sir. I still have this image in my mind where he is sitting on the green Kawasaki Ninja ZX 12R, on the Kawasaki racetrack! He is such a storehouse of automotive knowledge!
Thank you Tata Motors for making Indians pride.
I would highly recommend Automotive Journalist and Critics especially from Tamilnadu to watch the podcast.
Please do consider sharing the video! Would definitely help us.
We love TATA motors🎉🎉
So do we!
That’s the reason u don’t see any of the old tata cars on the roads today but still see quite a few Maruti cars of the eighties on the roads even today.
But Tata Motors has come a long way from that for sure.
Great podcast! As a young and proud member of this great organization lot of valuable insights and key takeaways to work upon.
Thankyou Adil sir and Sirish sir!
Glad to hear that Jatin! We hope you gave it a like and a share!
It felt like reading a book on Tata. Thanks to Evo channel. 1 hour went like a minute. Adils details were really good.
Thank you Vikas! Adil is a treasure trove of automotive information. Always a pleasure to hear him talk!
Hats-off to you Sirsh sir and Adil sir for this great podcast
Am not a big geek and self- proclaimed carguy bcz i know i still not have that knowledge of some basics and mechanism of cars
How the machine completely works etc. etc.
But
You just did a fab job to at least get a mindmap of tata's journey in india without being bored for even a single minute 😅
Love you from my side
~ A Future Carguy
Thanks a ton, Ayush!
This is top quality content here. Hope you guys can continue this. It's fun informative and fascinating to listen to all the insights and backstories of cars and manufactures in India. For years we've just been fed plain old car reviews to consume digitally, this is such a breath of fresh air. When you put out such quality content i hope you don't worry about the viewership or the audience because that will come naturally with time. It's important to put this body of work out there, which in this case is this wonderful podcast, and people can find it whenever they do
Small suggestion as a young and huge consumer of content on CZcams, you guys should make cips of interesting bits in these podcasts and post them as shorts on CZcams. It'll help you grow organically, improve your reach, get more people interested and reach more eyes. Cause the quality of content on offer definitely needs more people watching/listening to it!!
Thank you so much! We shall keep that in mind!
Mind blowing! Such much information. Thanks . Loved watching!!
Glad you liked it!
Fabulous, I didn't skip a single second; instead, I even rewound at points. What an amazing podcast! The explosive knowledge he possesses just blasts out of his mind OMG.... So interesting!♥♥♥
Amen! Such immense knowledge he has!
I am the guy who used to read those articles in magazine those days.. good ol days. Great stories and tata has done what maruti took it for granted. Nano was case study in IIMs they should launch EV now its better than mg comet. - thanks for this podcast.
We need some answers on quality still some issues prevail why ?
There were some Nano EVs, but who knows what the future has in store!
Such an insightful video!! Adil sir is truly an encyclopedia. Amazing. A key takeaway from this discussion is that the indian govt of the time cz of its unreasonable love for socialism actually killed the indian auto industry and indian industry in general. I wish we had done better.
I listen this every day having lunch 15-20min. And loved it
Keep bringing these podcasts.
My dad was amongst theTelco start up team
What stories he must be having!
Thanks Shirish & evo india for delivering quality contents like this. Please do more podcast as it is treat to watch.
You're welcome! More coming up your way!
So much insight. The Indian motoring community is very knowledgeable. Then there are Adil & Sirish. You lot (evo India) make me happy. 😁😁
Over 1hr...😮,pure joy😀❤
Haha! Yes, and full of stories from Adil sir!
Loved it, every second, every word, every details of knowledge and history... Felt like it should have been series and not just one episode... Please bring more such content... Thanks a lot.
Thanks a ton!
Maruti history chapter completed, Tata motors history covered now its time for hyundai and Mahindra to be covered next episode and i urge to please have omni episode on gone but not forgeten.
Thanks for those suggestions! We shall surely try to make all those episodes!
This should be part of Tata Motors Induction for anyone joining it..
Hello Gentleman 🤝It s a Nice Podcast
In my opinion Tata Motors compare to Toyota, has long way to go in terms of QDR
Quality 🕺
Durability🕺
Reliability 🕺
Best example I can tell u-- People buy Innova Hycross by closing there eyes , without thinking too much no matter how much is the💰 Price💰 for top varient, same cannot be said to Tata Safari or Harrier because of Poor QC in their manufacturing process, they r improving but still long way to go🤦
be it,
Engine refinement
Hard Truck like clutch 🤦
Lack of crisp and smooth Gear box
Paint Quality & consistency
Electronic malfunctions
Worst connected car experience 🤦
Panel gaps, poor alignment
List goes on.........🤦
Finess what they call in car manufacturing is missing in there final product,
The final Touch matters, before the car comes out of their plant,
Even Tata car resale value is Poor
Hope they improve in the coming years
Thank you so much! Please do share it with your friends and family! Cheers!
That engine of 407 is called 497SP (4 cyl - 97mm bore) and it's being used till date. And yes, Tata trucks are engineered for carrying much higher payloads than what is rated. Here in KL, Tata SE 1613 is the favourite choice to carry wood/logs. The rated load limit of 1613 is 16 tons, while it easily carries 25 tons without breaking the axle 🥵
We've three cars in our family
1) Indica vista 2012 model diesel
2) Tata Altroz 2022 model diesel
3) Mahindra Bolero Neo 2022 model diesel
I must admit they are all awesome..kings in their own right 😎
49:40 For your information, the instances of Tata Nanos burning across India were the shenanigans by Maruti and a few two-wheelers companies to disrupt Nano from being successful.
If that was the case , why didn't tata file a case against maruti in India?
Indian courts give verdict after ice cars become obsolete.😅😅
What a treat for a Sunday afternoon ❤
We hope you had a great time!
Your podcasts are best in India 🔥🔥👍👍👍👍
Hey, thank you so much!
Great podcast! I’ve now subscribed as a result of this :) not sure if it’s already been done, but a podcast on all the old car companies of India that didn’t survive modernisation - Premier, HM,…
Thank you, and welcome aboard. Do check these out for more: czcams.com/play/PLwFVeUAZgWGuUETI3CGCMvvYSeFCsFuub.html
Thanks for taking me back to car and bike international magazine era
Great content about Tata and Indian automobile history ❤
Thank you Kishan!
A podcast purely about the Indica only. That would be something!
I loved the podcast! Can we please have a podcast on mahindra and Mahindra?
We are working on that! Do stay tuned!
Such a wonderful no non-sense show... really enjoyed it
Hey, thanks a bunch Vasudev!
To the new viewers. I request you to grab a drum of snacks coz you'll love listening the whole podcast. THANK ME LATER! 😁😁
Haha! We recommend a bucket of popcorn! ;)
When I see Adil ,I order a kfc bucket, never disappoints.
❤Ed your pod cast on Tata motors, own a 2008 june nexon D AMT, working like charm, I'll hold on till 3lakh km😊
Hey thank you so much! We hope you have much more fun with your car!
2008 Nexon 😮
Fantastic podcast ❤
Thank you !
Much needed Weekend podcast

Next episode should be on mahindra.
Also we want this genre of podcast on. TVS, HEROMOTORCORP BAJAJ ,ROYAL ENFIELD
Thanks for the suggestion Yash!
great conversation
Hey, thanks Aditya!
Amazing 🎉
Thank you!
Thank You......TATA Motors!
Do consider liking and sharing this podcast Santosh! Would help us a lot!
Any idea when they ll launch Nexon CNG?
No word yet, but we hope that happens soon.
All for what TATA Motors has achieved, but their QC issues in hi-end passenger vehicles are pathetic.
Sirish chandran is the best👍💯
To be honest, the only brands making FUN to drive cars in India are Volkswagen and Skoda. The cars where you get in, go for a drive, and end up smiling, are always Volkswagens. Used to be Ford, but they left. I want a good affordable fun to drive car in India, hope someone takes that into consideration
Drive an EV. You'll forget these cars
@@user-dp48ry5 surely you never drive a 3 pedal hydraulic steering ladder frame car
Ev don't have any soul in them initially you feel the acceleration sufldden power burst and what not but after Sone time when battery life start depleting and this burst of power will bored you then talk
Not really! Also they are over-pricing what they actually give & provide! Saying this having owned VW Polo & Skoda Kushaq!
Mahindra cars can provide you that with their MStallion 2.0L
@@yashshukla6514 then you might as well go back and buy steam cars. They had more soul. This talk of soul in cars is a rubbish talk by broke-a$$ journalists who are good at words. Since they are broke, they speak volumes about whatever jalopy they drive.
Please do a next on Safari storme & Sumo... both have serious recall value and should be resurrected
We shall try for that!
Quality issues still exists.
What an automotive aristocracy , esteemed discussion.
Thanks a ton Amit! Do give it a like and a share!
Was the person BVR Subbu?
Bossman at his best. Why he is not active on Twitter nowadays?
The 1st Diesel hatchback was Fiat uno 1.7
1:00:12 true
Oh yes!
Tata now makes beautiful, safe & unreliable cars.
Yap… most awaited podcast. Tata is still neglected talent; even today despite of huge RnD and better indigenous products… people still label them as assembler and some rival brand taint their image further with their PR team.
Apart from Tata luxury van… there was also a sedan concept that was taken over by ambitious Safari project.
I feel there are certain mistakes, like naming the FWD Gravitas as Safari with no AWD or 4x4; rather they could’ve made better ladder framed Safari like the ScorpioN.
Wish to see Sumo with better in-house technology n build for hard core off-roading and Hexa for sheer luxury on wheels that betters the likes of Carnival in future.
Perhaps there are certain topics that I missed like the Tata’s ambitious project like the OneCAT(Compressed Air Technology) with collaboration with France based MDI. And next is, what made them roll the badge engineered Renault Trafic ancient version as Winger… if there’s any good reason then why not further like the Tata engineered Duster as we know Duster chassis dynamics is still unmatchable.
Waiting for once such podcast on Mahindra too
We shall try to make one soon!
1968 ERC setup
That moment when ADIL DARUKHANWAALA says MARUTI drops down its PANT instead of its PRICE.
Hahahaha!
When can we expect gdi engines from Tata?
Yes....new curvv will come with 1.5 gdi
From what we hear new engines are under development.
CURVV in no way looks like URUS. it's more like GLE, X6. The reason, CURVV showcased at BMS feels so disproportionate from side view is, the C pillar starts sloping too early. It should start to lean little behind, to provide more headroom and to look proportionate. Not ignoring the fact that undersized wheels with karol bhag like chhapri kind of flower petal shaped alloys looks wacky.
Hope they surprise all, by launching CURVV in whole new shape than what was showcased multiple times. Bcz the spy shots hints at two different kind of coupe shape prototypes being test simultaneously. 🧐🤔
We shall only find out when they launch it!
Why not hybrid cars by tata ?
Why not tata safari storme???
Their product strategies should be based on the research they have conducted. Who knows, they might be working on something for the future.

😊😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Not to mention setting a benchmark in the worst after sales and service.
Nobody talks about elephant in the room. Tata motors Quality Control is even poor than Mahindra motors and their service network is way worst. If quality control can match up to Hyundai or Toyota, so as the service then we can say they have really improved until then people would be scared to touch their cars and who have purchased already will be left frustrated if there would have been any issues.
Put construction material sheets they become naturally safe and 5 Star 😂😂😂😂
I have grown old watching Sirish & Adil. Absolute fun podcast!
These 2 folks made me run through the memory lane!
Hey, glad to hear you enjoyed this! Please do give it a like and a share if you haven't already. Would help us a lot!
I dislike TATA cars now only because all the cars look the same from the front. Individuality is lacking I feel. Nexon, Punch, Harrier Safari all look the same from the front only the sizes and minute details are different.
Make a podcast on swift
We shall surely try!
Tata sumo used to be my favourite car till they brought the Spacio model which sounded like truck engine . Didn't like the looks of the Sumo Victa.
Tata motors biggest blunder was to promote nano as cheap car instead of funky family smart car
On Yamaha in India
Invicta
Tata cars are much better today compared to the old crap they used to make and foist on us on those days. I know cause I used to one the sierra tata pickups it was bad and there is no excuse.
Tata Motors has come a long way!
Tata calypso
We shall surely try for that!
Hope they pay some attention to quality and reliability. The 5 star GNcap is of no use if the car spends most of its time in the service centre.
Maruti is of no use if they cannot be the best selling manufacturers BECAUSE THEY SELL THE LOWEST, CHEAPEST, THIRD CLASS CARS WITH TAXI VARIANTS IN ALL OF THE SEGMENTS
@@nou7401 Well can't argue with that either. So for us its either safety or reliability. Getting both is going to mean, we select a German brand, with expensive service. And don't get me wrong, I have been with Tata for the past 20 years. One thing has been consistent, poor quality control. So I moved to Mahindra. I hope it's better.
@@dbssdasMahindra software is BS
@@nou7401 oh im expecting something to go wrong too....but surprisingly nothing has gone wrong yet
JTP version should have continued. For every Tata cars there could have been a JTP version like the AMG for Benz..Also Tata Ace and Iris..Both these vehicles revolutionised Indian light commercial and taxi sector...
Shirish should have kept his feats in his pockets.. that's the reason Evo India shrinks down when compared to competitors ...
And what not 😂
😂
Haha!
TATA will be in much higher positions,if our political policies are much more supportive.
about fiat palio 1.6
Hey Susheel, we did make a video on the Palio. Do check this out : czcams.com/video/eFGCHX9AYYk/video.html
They should bring back the JTP branding and just call it the Altroz JTP instead of that stupid "Racer" name. Tata Motors probably sees the JTP/JTSV name as a failure in their books which could be a reason to kill it forever. And that is just sad because it wasn't a failure, they made two of the most amazing and underrated cars ever to be sold in the country. They just failed at marketing them. They don't realise the value of that badge.
And worst service in India
