- Submitting Morgan Dollars for grading depends on how much you have in the coin, then what potential grade it might attain, and if the coin has a problem or not. I highlight these issues in this video. How to grade Morgan Silver Dollars.

I agree 100%, we shoud be able to scan these and put a grade on them. The current system is like MLB baseball, a ball or strike is totally dependent upon the umpire.
True statement there!
But then, there will be arguments about the scanning software. With coins, the final "official" grade is subjective. (Baseball pitches are FAR easier to computer grade than a coin!)
You have no idea how much your videos help people. Some need this information, and we are grateful for all you do. Thanks again
Thank you.
I’ve been collecting coins for 40 years and still learning. You’re doing a great job, the video was very informative, I’m looking forward to seeing/ learning more.
I have learned to buy a few graded coins so I get insight into grading raw coins. Being a newer collector these types of videos really help out. Thanks 👍😃😎
Man I like watching your vids, u give out the best info out there.
Thanks again. The dollar coins are my favorites.
I haven’t watched a single of yours that I have not learned some very helpful information.
Great video Daniel. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hello
Good information. The more coins one looks at the better you get at understanding grading. Thanks. 😃
I appreciate your videos. I’m learning I go and enjoy the information you share. Thank you very much. 😊
Good video. And you're correct. We can't split grades within a grade. It's why I never debate grade. Only price. To me, a coin is worth a certain price. The seller can call it whatever he likes.
Thanks Daniel - for an honest assessment of the third party grading of these Morgans. I really have enjoyed watching your channel - so keep up the good work!
Thanks for that comment! I wish more people would see the value in this video as you. It's fallen into obscurity and is brand new.
Very informative, thank you so much. I'm a relatively new collector (3yrs) and I appreciate everything you're doing.New sub AAA+!
Thank you
Great job man... always enjoy your' videos...
Good video. I've got one I was thinking about sending off but still not sure. Good video an I agree with the things you said in this.
Great video. Keep up the awesome content🤘🤘
Love all your videos. Thanks for sharing... Please cover more vam. Thanks
Excellent work! Helped me big time.
Thank you and happy New Year !
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Daniel I have a pretty good collection of Morgan's, a great deal of them are raw and should be Graded. And all of the coins I have that are Graded none are less than MS 62 up to MS 66, can't afford the next tier lol. I compare the Graded coins to the raw and I can tell you there are definitely a difference between a few of them. Thanks for sharing as always.
Learning a lot from your videos. Thank you.
I have seen graded MS61’s that I would have graded as AU... Morgan’s. ANACS grades good, I don’t know why the market doesn’t like them. Many ANACS will upgrade if sent to PCGS or NCG.
Enjoy watching ur video very informative ty sir for your time and effort
Thanks and you're welcome
Love your videos. Very educational for me as a new coin collector.
Thank you!
I got several Morgan’s myself I’ve collected which are slabbed I love the beauty
Keep the videos coming, they're very informative.
Thank you
You are very helpful and knowledgeable and I love listening to you.
Thank you
What I've noticed just at looking at coins on the NGC sold auctions list . The more expensive coins are all near flawless at ms65, and the more common dates / mints tend to be a bit more liberal. And honestly I dont mind .... gives me hope for my change by keeping the premiums inflated. But it could be my eye . I do agree about the computer analysis though, great equalizer .
Very very informative and fascinating! I totally agree
Totally agree with you on the computer part. I am pro sr. software analyst, but a newbie in numismatic. I think computers can’t lie though. They just don’t know how, unless you teach them.
WOW! WHAT AN EYE OPENER. THIS IS A SERIOUSLY DIFFICULT BUSINESS TEACHER/BOYFRIEND. I GET OVERWHELMED LOOKING AT THE LITTLE COINS AND DECEIFERING THEM. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME 🐆🐆🐈🐈🐃🐥❤
Great video and info on Morgan dollars..thanks for sharing your knowledge
You're welcome and thank you.
Sorry Found this video late! CoinHelpU Thank you this video! You sure got my attention, specially with those Morgan Dollars!🎈Yes!👍🎈🎈
Thanks for watching.
Another good video good job
Thankyou. That was helpful.😀
video with commentary is so much easier to those points you are making, thanks
they need computers to get involved.i agree with you unless you are a big guy you can't request a grade and expect to get it unless you spend enough money on the service in my opinion.the last coin i sent was cherry picked at a coin shop and it was a 1913d buffalo that cost me 2 dollars.i got it back and it was ms64 one of the best strikes i have seen full mint luster, full horn,no major contact marks and so on.i am sure you have had similar experiences any way nice video.
Thanks. I hav a roll of 81s we bought in the early 80s that I now know would grade ms65. Possibly higher but not much point when we don’t plan on selling.
Good info. I don't think I'll be sending any in. For awhile maybe they can get on the same page
Great video! Very informative. I am trying to decide if I going to get my 1878 CC graded.
Thanks. You can join my help community and post an image of both sides. coinauctionshelp.com/forum/index.php
I'm getting caught up on some of these older videos.. Great Information, I'm a the point of wanting to submit a handful of Morgan's for submission, just not sure of the best route!? Wish you were down the road ! Thanks for sharing your thoughts/knowledge !! Keith in the Salt City KS
Just pick a company and send them and other what I have in my videos and playlists I wouldn't have other advise for you. Just search my channel, all the information you need is in the videos. Just like listening to me in person.
After buying Morgan and Peace Dollars online for years now I have found 3 honest auctions that don’t sell problem coins without a disclaimer. You’re right about the large number of people who use trick photography. I solely stay with the people who I trust and have built a great customer client relationship. I just hate to receive problem coins.
This was a really helpful video, thank you! Are there many non Facebook sites that are good to buy from?
Good Video! Thanks Daniel
Thank you!
Great video Very Informative
Thank you
hello,I see ur point on the video. that's good info.
I bought a Morgan Coin about a month ago, and paid $100 for it. It appeared with high luster and beautiful but when it arrived, it was horrible. I responded my sentiments to the seller and he refunded me back after I sent the coin back.
Great Morgan Video!
You're welcome.
GRADE THE Ellis Island 6 Coin Set for Values? Dad's GRADE Everything..
I'm a Reluctant Grader! 😉 THANKS Again for Your Inspiring Interests in Grading! 😉
It's a little picky on the rattler MS 65. Those marks are off the cheek proper, but I still would have given this a 64+ eyeing it.
Daniel I just want say how much I enjoy watching your videos let me just say I started collecting about a year ago n you are my go to when I need information I'm still learning lol I just watched your video on the Morgan Dollar as a matter a fact I was wondering if you could take a look at them and tell me what you think I have 3 1884,1885 n a 1921 I would really love your opinion on them if I should get them Graded thank you look forward hearing from you
These are common dates and i don't recommend sending them off for grading. Thank you!
I'm a collector not an investor. I have all 95 business strikes ranging from an 1893S ungraded VG8 to an 1885 graded MS67. I bought them as needed to complete my collection and bought them as is which is mostly ungraded. As a collector and not an investor I have no interest in sending them in for grading. I bought several pre Morgan silver dollars that were detail graded and not given a numerical grade but a detail grade such as "XF details". I was able to get some nice looking coins at a reduced price this way. Many of these early coins have been around a long time and many times cleaned 200 or more years ago.
Do you think exchanging some Morgan's for 1/10 gold bought years ago 4_5$ most were UNC or _58-60s. Lots of o s.no cc.🤔do have some gold . Bought them knowing paper is fiat .as per Howard ruff.
I recently subscribed because I appreciate your knowledge and integrity of application. One thing I would like to see more of: to make a video (or series)...just on (likely) "details" grading for Morgans. Honestly, I'm a bit disgusted with the third party graders: I see graded Morgan after Morgans that are getting 62, 63, even 64...and they are dull and grey and ugly as (fill in the blank! They look every bit as likely as cleaned, as any other I've seen!) And then I'll see really quite attractive Morgans (that are also MS) but are beautiful, and often with nice luster, get "details cleaned" or "scratched"...or one I'd had recently: "obv. cleaned UNC". It was heart-breaking due to the rarity of the coin...and where (apparently) it was some tiny little hairline-patch. And yet reading the ANA's own manual on this, they allow for small hairline patches. And that tiny patch (could just as easily been caused by it rubbing against something in a dresser for years). It shouldn't be the way it is...and I don't know how to avoid these (seemingly constant) "details" grade.
I already did a video on that czcams.com/video/SjfODQdsf24/video.html
Hello There Daniel, What do you think about grading THE Columbus five dollar gold coin + Silver Columbus?
Dad GRADED ALL the silver b'day gold commemorative coins in NGC, PCGS PR70s?!? Could any Good Come from The Grading of U.S.Mint Set Coins?! How?
Do they factor in previous grades given for mintage?
I want our hobby's community to reflect the concept that you're putting forth - a fair playing field coupled with some honesty...and as soon as we get China forgeries flooding our market or people being dishonest with their photos online - something needs to be done about it!
Great videos.. I pretty much stopped buying morgans off of ebay. My first few coins were the obviously cleaned, shiny ones. Thought i was getting some good stuff. I only wanted 1 roll, and throughout the 20 purchases, there was a change as i learned about cleaned coins, and obvious crockery on Ebay. Recently took my roll in to a shop and i have about 5 that arent cleaned, Yikes! No key dates, got the better ones around $25 in mid-AU. It seems the shittier they look (on ebay) the better. A TON of camera magic out there!
Here's a Morgan group I sell in facebook.com/groups/morgansilverdollars/
Enjoy all of your videos. Where is your shop located?
Portsmouth, Ohio
Enjoyed the instructional videos I have watched so far.
Do you have knowledge of a dealer for Canadian coins with some of your ideals and integrity?
No, I don't. Most dealers sell any coin but don't know anyone who just specializes in Canadian.
Reluctant Grader Collector
Huge difference in the MS 65's but to be fair one is graded by ICG and the other is by PCGS ya know? Some people won't agree with me but that's what I think...
If I buy key dates and even most semi key dates, I will come to someone like you I can trust. eBay and other auction places are just too risky. Sure a few get lucky but most don't. Just not worth that chance to me.
Daniel, I'm a new collector, I've got a Morgan 1894-o, it's marked AU on the 2x2 it came in. my question is should I send this in to be graded ? I'm hopeful to make some money with it. Your input is greatly appreciated. Scott
I can't say you should send a coin in. I never pay attention to what is written on a 2x2. All you can do is see what grade it is using photograde then determine if the value of that grade makes it worth it.
Nice
I wonder if they'll ever go to computer photo scanning for grading? There seems to be a vast difference between coin graders in these Professional Services. Thinking establish a scanning grade I think would be more accurate way grade coins. I see a lot of people resubmit coins and they come back a different grade because of human judgment which differs very much.
It has to be the future despite what PCGS and NGC claim on the matter.
I have 400 from 1878-1895.
Fifty years old . Every ten years I pull them out and think I should get them evaluated.
Absolutely beautiful coins, thank you and I would love to support by subscribing.
See you soon Daniel
Thank you.
Daniel, what would you personally find more desirable: an AU Morgan that’s virtually flawless with great eye appeal, OR an MS that’s full of dings and bag marks? I was just wondering what would be generally favored on the market.
Pleasing eye appeal is always going to do better on the market.
I have a real soft cloth that I wipe all my coins with. No scrubbing, no chemicals and type of cleaner. Just a dusting cloth. Does that hurt my coins? I sure hope not. Please let me know. Thanks
I have a 1883-cc ANACS MS64 DMPL. I really would like someone to look at it. I wanted to send it into PCGS but I worry.
So what did those coins actually sell for?
Pcgs has videos for teaching how to grade coins . It seems to me , it could be used to figure out answers to some questions you have voiced about aparant inconsistencies . i know the human factor is oary of that too. i figure you would already know about this, but maybe forgot it was a thing.
Is icg a "stay away" grading company ? I can never remember the 4th company thats ok to consider...pcgs,ncg, anacs and .....what?
ICG is fourth in line and no one takes their grading very serious.
@@CoinHELPu thankyou. Does your stores website feature a webshop? I just located it online and like to send my money to people who deserve it..from what i can tell you earn every penny you make in the best way and mannor possible .through honest transactions and helping people learn about coins and how not to get taken.
@@coreymerrill3257 Thank you! I appreciate that. We do but not a lot of inventory. I have to restock but here it is portsmouthcoinshop.com/shop/
If they go to a computerized grading system, the TPG's would lose millions in their resubmission game. I agree that's how it should be, but they'll fight that guaranteed! Not sure if it is true, but I heard there was a system like that in the late 80's or 90's, but it didn't last long.
it wasn't AI but there was a computer system.
How about showing some coins that you turned in and what they sold for at the auction house?
I have videos on that, click the coinhelpu under this video and search auction.
If a coin had a great strike and very few marks. Can the luster be brought back and how does it affect the grade without it?
No the luster can't be brought back.
@@CoinHELPu I appreciate your response. This coin has some kind of toning on it I think. I'll take it to a shop one day. It's an 1880-O btw.
@@CoinHELPu I appreciate your response. I believe I didn't ask the question properly. This coin isn't dull like a circulated coin. It has a strange toning like color to it. It's an 1880-O with a nice strike and super clean of any scratches or bag marks.
@@marcor8278 and this why I refrain from answering questions in the comments as much as I can, and ask people to use the coinhelpu community instead.
@@CoinHELPu I wasn't aware of a community. Obviously if I had been, I would've asked there instead. Answering questions is part of teaching people. Unless you're able to answer every possible question in each video.
Btw. I didn't realize the post about taking it to a shop had been posted. I wouldn't of posted an hour ago if I had. Good luck to you sir.
Do you sell on Ebay, Daniel?
We sell at ebay here ebay.to/2BL8pk9
We sell on our website here portsmouthcoinshop.com/
And sell in my Facebook groups facebook.com/groups/coincollectinghelpauctions/
I still really like your site. Is it possible that YOU has a 1953 penny with zinc or steel and look at the site where the man gave his 1990's penny to the government. What's up with that ? SILVER HOUND says u got to believe.
Thanks. A lot of them have been plated but unless it's 1982 until now, plated in copper, or a 1943 plated in zinc, then it's been plated outside the mint. So it would be a damaged coin. I have several plated coins I keep for reference.
I have 1886 morgan dollar 0 mint mark is this value and how to sell this coin in right price
Depends on grade, match your coin to one at ebay sold auctions to see what they sell for.
Hello sir i have my coin but i dont know what kind of this coin its big coin 3 inches saint gaudene 1907 roman newmiral but fhis.coin is zinc is this coin is fake
Yes it is fake
@@CoinHELPu thanks sir and godblsu
.i got 1921 morgan how much value
Always use ebay sold auctions to check on coin values.
There are some really good fakes out there so the one way I’ve found to weed them out is to weigh them. Although scammers have gotten good at it they can’t seem to get past the scale (yet).
Daniel...i told you the answer. PCGS even said your eyes are your eyes. Remember..mr. Deeds with Adam Sandler. I see CRAZY eye's all the time with myself. I get up and take a hour break then. Don't make that pizza LADY have to straighten you out.Smile.i love the movie. ❤your buddy (I am a girl buddy) in pa. ❤
What about 1898
ICG = I can't grade
I have a coin ( of course I do) however...getting back to the cleaning.I am trying very hard Daniel to take a few pictures of it. It is a 3 PENCE....FILTHLY AS DIRT...IT IS HEAVY AND A SIZE MAYBE AS A HALF DOLLAR. I FOR THE LIFE OF ME WILL NOT TRY TO CLEAN IT. . THE DATE IS QUESTIONABLE....I WOULD BE ALSO IF I WERE OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD. WHY WOULD A HUMAN NOT LOVE THAT COIN FOR ITS APPROPRIATE AGE? BOGGLES MY MIND BOYFRIEND ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
1886 coin Dekhte chai
All circulated coins have been cleaned at some point, somehow. Non-issue.
But most didn’t have their original surfaces altered, a big difference in harsh cleaning.
@@CoinHELPu True, but having a hard time visualizing how a circulated coin would have much of an original surface left. So what is better, an uncleaned G coin with few details remaining or a VF coin that has been lightly polished without scratching further?
A circulated coin would not, I was referring to uncirculated coins, but a circulated coin does develop a natural patina over time and that can be removed from harshly cleaning.
I like your videos, but I think it could be confusing that you say "don't clean coins"; then, you call a nice coin "very clean".
The MS62 looks like Morgan's boasting a beard, that's why. It's al about location, location location.
Eye appeal, especially with the Morgans.

Hi Daniel ,This grading guys are drunk, You would never know how do they grade your coins. Especially key date coins.
63 judge probably got a little the night before....
After watching this guy I lost my interest in coin collecting. If u can't trust pcgs and ngc or even anacs who can u trust. Its It's nearly impossible to get this information.
You can trust them but don't bank on getting the money grades you see in their price guides.
I know all my dollar coins are junk
