  • Is It Doubled Die Or Strike Doubling? How To ID Doubled Dies Versus MD.
In this video I talk about doubled dies, how they're created and when as well as an example die. Also how to tell the difference between doubled die and strike doubled coins. I also do some sketches and show you some images to learn what they look like.

Thank you for the visuals. I'm new to this idea of coin collecting and since in6 a visual learner your videos are most helpful. The use of pointer adds even more interest to keep coming back to your videos. It took me about a month to comprehend the small date large date varieties for the 82's because other videos verbally described the destinction as curve on the 2 or the line going straight down to the base so my mind was visualized the base being the base of the coin, not the base of the 2 and was about to give up and throw the idea of coin collecting out the window. So on behalf of us visuals-thank you very much! I get inspired watching your channel.

Great video...for a long time I didn't really understand what a double die was exactly then it it hit me one day and made sense.....your video is very good at explaining what a double die is truly and what it is not......I don't think I've ever heard it explained this clearly. Thanks.

You probably had the well known machine doubled die 1955.
It’s commonly known as the “poor man’s 1955 doubled die”.
The crazy expensive ones were given out as change in cigarette vending machines. A pack of cigs cost $0.23 in 1955. People put in a $0.25 coin and a pack of cigarettes came out with 2 pennys taped to it as change.
The famous 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent was distributed that way.

Do you know of any 1979 dd reverse on the "United States" and on the "One". How do I get to confirmation if I have a DD? Please help

Dan, I am looking forward to your next video on this subject ‘cause it does get confusing.
My vision suffers and I have yet to find a good way to photograph my coins. My iPhone X would work if I could find a better way to stabilize it when taking pictures of the coins. How do you get such close-up and clear images for use on your CZcams videos? Do you really use only your phone camera?

No, I use a Canon Rebel with a macro lens but I did make a video on taking coin images with your phone.

I am new so all I have is a Carson minibrite 3x led lighted magnifier. It has a slide up lens with a light. I can hold my phone over the lens and it actually works pretty well. Just a thought for a little extra zoom. Like I said though, very new at this.

What do you call a coin that looks like it's been painted and it has the lines like a paint brush?

I still don't get what causes the doubled image if it is not struck twice. I do not get how a conical die makes an image on a flat coin.
