OCD Not Responding To ERP/CBT? Factors To Consider

- CBT/ERP is the gold standard therapy for OCD, working well for around 80% of people. However, not everyone is lucky enough to respond to this. Tourettic OCD, PANDAS/PANS, Autism, and Delusions may cause a person to have to an atypical OCD experience, and therefore need atypical treatment. It is vital that practitioners distinguish between intrusive thoughts and mental tics as they ARE different, as well as distinguishing between OCD rituals and tics. As someone with OCD related to Tourette's and PANS - I have never related to the mainstream discourse on OCD and this can be isolating.

'A-typical OCD' absolutely does exist. Does 'regular OCD' exist? In the simplified form it is claimed?
Blaming the patient for the treatment not working is a very bad practice. So damaging. CBT wasted many years of my life. Well worse than that, it made me feel so low that I believed I wasn't worthy to live. When I could let go of trying CBT my mental health much improved. One size doesn't fit all and like you say it isn't a cure, at best a management strategy at it worst it just is cruelly prolonging the suffering.

Ldn works on ocd for myself but not much for my pain
