The original version of "My Lover" felt like 10% of a finished ending theme, and I wanted to greatly flesh it out without over-extending its allure and welcome. This meant beefing up the section with a twofold approach:
1) To stress the importance of the "good ending," and the saving of Naoko from certain death at the hands of Zeed's trap.
2) To create a much more compelling, rousing and triumphant ending theme that takes into account everything Joe Musashi went through during the game.
You, listener, will decide if I hit that mark or not. For now, I'm very proud of what I've done with the soundtrack for "The Revenge of Shinobi," and I'm very happy you have all joined me for the journey.

It's weird how suddenly these endings cut off in the game. I felt like they should've faded to credits, but it might have been a memory issue, being one of the early Gen/MD titles. This new sequence for My Lover would have been perfect for that though. Really great job on this track and all the ones you covered for Revenge Of Shinobi. Looking forward to your next project!
Iceferno, my main man!... Yeah, it's crazy how a simple fade in/out can affect the entire mood of a game... it's such an underrated part of the experience that developers seem to not really bother with (I guess they're too busy coding the visuals and gameplay, but still...), it's very overlooked.

It's interesting you point that out because if you play the game on a Japanese Mega Drive there actually IS credits in the good ending (at least in the first version there is I'll check the subsequent revisions again just in case) for some stupid and asinine reason Sega decided to disable the credits if played on a non-Japanese system.
@@superrayman3I have always wondered about this myself. Out of curiosity, do you know how I could run the REV 00 rom as the Japanese version? By default it seems to load as NTSC

While I’m gutted the Revenge of Shinobi soundtrack is over, I’m so happy to hear my fav game growing up got this type of treatment, and has had new life injected into it.
Thank you for bringing my childhood back and expanding on it. You’ve done this soundtrack justice and I’m looking forward to hearing what’s next!

Whatever you expand and enhance next, I'm sure it'll be amazing. Shinobi III is of course the logical next step, but tons of other soundtracks would be even better to do this with on their own merits.

I really hope a new Shinobi game appears after the success of SOR4 (and its Shinobi easter egg). The more i think about it, the more I want a remake of Revenge of Shinobi. Keep the art style, expand the game, and of course, get you in to do the OST because you just get it my friend. This whole OST has been a true work of art. Thank you for all your work.

I'm sure you have so many others under consideration, but if I could choose one to recommend it would be Contra: Hard Corps. You'd probably have a lot of fun with that one!

At long last... Shinobi III is complete~ And what a beautiful song to end off on~ My Lover has so much hope and love infused in it - a much more positive mood than Silence Night; The original section sounded so much more full and vibrant with the bass, drums, and surround sound that it feels SO triumphant! And of course, if you managed to beat this beast of a game, you deserve a triumphant theme
It's great that you incorporated the Japanese instruments that you used in Silence Night for this song, especially since they are companion pieces of sorts, like two roads diverged in sakura wood
Don't think I didn't hear that title screen motif at 2:00! What a great way to tie the entire soundtrack together - from the beginning to the end... it's such a great callback that reminds me of the Yuzo Koshiro charm
And of course, theres the outro... everything's winding down; Joe and Naoko Musashi can breathe easy. As they gaze into the horizon, the sun rises on Japan... and a new chapter of their lives; Their adventure... is over...

The expanded/enhanced version of this soundtrack has been a few years in the making, but trust me, it was absolutely worth it. Especially with the rehauls you made to your style that caused you to restart your channel from scratch, and even create the "GOLD Editions" for the Streets of Rage tracks you already created
It's finally time to start anew... new projects, new soundtracks~ And what better place to start than the game that put SEGA on the home console map: Sonic the Hedgehog! Gotta go fast~

@@burrger2007 - Hi, I assume you mean Expanded and Enhanced? They aren't samples, but actual sound banks, some of which I've had to tweak to sound like identical representations of the original songs. Other ways to achieve certain sounds involve operating outside of the virtual instrument (in this case, Chipsynth MD by Plogue Software) , adding in things like reverb, delay and chorus. I wish it were simpler to recreate the individual sound banks, but it's actually quite a process a lot of the time.

I just want to say: Thank you! Revenge of Shinobi is my favorite Genesis soundtrack. I originally got it as a pack in with my Sega CD. Yuzo Koshiro's music to this and Streets of Rage (also a pack in) are ingrained into my soul. You've completely honored Yuzo's work and did the impossible and improved upon it. Can't wait to hear what's next. Recently I've been listening to the Shinobi III soundtrack and it's surprisingly good despite having a different composer. Hoping for this but if not I trust whatever your next project is.
Thanks David, I appreciate the support. And yes, I believe you're talking about the greatest hits CD, right? That was a great package of classic Genesis games on one disc. I also had it. As for Shinobi III, I may do it sometime in the future .
@@MaestroDraven Yes. Sega Classics 4 in 1 CD containing Golden Axe, Columns, Streets of Rage, and Revenge of Shinobi. Sega CD model 1 was a thing of beauty as well as a great value (well considering the amount of cash being laid out for it). It also had Sol-Feace, Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective , Rock Paintings (a CD+G dsc), and a ordinary CD that had a collection of popular songs at the time. This thing was my first CD player and I got many years of use out of it. Keep up the great work and God bless you.

Ahh man, that is savage! What instrument do you use after the first pass of the theme ends?.Surely too full in sound to be a YM2612 instrument?
Hey John, thanks. That's a Nagoya Harp actually operating off of UVI Falcon. Since I kept the same sound parameters as the original soundtrack, I decided to flesh it out very carefully in other places, such as the addition of authentic Asian world instruments.
