I don't mind it in a lot of these cases. Like Janet Cage is just kinda funny, Bo Rai Cho becoming Madam Bo is fine because it's more of a nod than a character swap, and the female scorpion wasn't a gender swap, it was Hanzo's wife from another timeline, which is pretty cool. But major playable characters, especially ones who are so beloved? I've loved the changes they've made to different characters, like turning Shao Kahn into a general, Reptile and Shang Tsung's new stories, but is the implication here that Cyrax is a different character with that name? And why not just give us human Cyrax like MK9? I just wonder what the reasoning is

It actually kind of makes sense especially if the two dragons were meant to be a mating pair. I don't know much about the dragons but I think they are meant to be connected in some way outside of being dragons. So maybe that is a part of this change.

Plus thinking about their personal stories their gender plays such a small role that it doesn't change things. Also so far at least all of the playable characters have been altered by Liu Kang either purposefully or accidentally. Maybe Sektor and Cyrax's gender swap was a way to change them to make them playable without rewriting their stories.

I’ve been a fan of this series for so long.
But ever since mk11 I’ve been slowly losing my love for this series because of how its been treated by both NRS and WB.
No one seems to care that we paid $70+ dollars for an unfinished game. Dlc and aftermath aside. We still dont have warrior shrine,mercies, stage fatalities, and we should be getting animalities and it doesnt look like we are due to probably laziness. Cross play took forever and is not part of switch. I won't be pre-ordering any more games going forward or buying at full price. Mk1 and kp1 went 50% off within 6 months of release. Oh and charging CRAZY money for skins and fatalities. Even the dlc costs more than half the game.
They will be added but don't expect it anytime soon, game will probably be complete near mid 2025

It's gotten better but this game released with a super common glitch where the uppercut brutality (you know, the only one that every single character shares) would leave heads floating in the air. Hell, even the characters feel unfinished, their strengths and weaknesses feel arbitrary and random rather than intentionally designed. It just feels like an earlier build of the game than the public should have access to. Maybe unfinished is less accurate than underbaked, they really rushed this one out the door

Technically she’s only been playable in 2 MK games. And one was for game boy advanced. She’s been featured a lot though, it’s like they tease us.
I love Sareena as a character, she’s got great story, her moves are eh though, she needs an overhaul.
But to answer your question, Batman characters take precedence. Also, we need to play as Johnny Cage, Sonya, Baraka, scorpion and sub, Jax and all the other characters we get every time and never get a break on

They served not 1 (quan chi) not 2 (shinnok) but 3 separate characters (kronika) as servant minions and ended up just dying with 0 closure or sendoff. Too much effort unfortunately. Because ironically enough, even though everybody who copes about this says “it doesn’t matter”. To NRS it does matter, they mocap female and males completely differently. The only female skin using a male moveset is the Janet Cage NPC from invasions.
Because NRS mocaps the genders differently, and because all the mocap for MK1 has been long completed and finished. There’s no more chance of this happening in the game
Unless there’s approved support beyond the expansion, there’s no chance for 2 genders sharing the same animations via skins.

Cyrax is canonically a black man from Botswana and is one of, if not the only Tswana character in mainstream fiction. I'd be happy if they preserved the nationality of the character. Else we will be gaining representation at the cost of representation.

Ok then why change it in the first place? Just to get a reaction and cause pointless controversy over something that shouldn’t be an issue in the first place, I mean if it didn’t matter before then what was the purpose of changing it?
These same people love to say how none of this matters yet ignore the fact that humans by nature are visual creatures that clearly have a type or a taste for certain things. We all have preferences yet some like to gatekeep or act like other people’s doesn’t matter as much as long as THEIR preference isn’t affected until it does then all of the sudden they care now that their favorite character was changed.
Overall the hypocrisy from the people defending this change astounds me.
Why change it? To sprinkle in some more fighter variation. To align with the timeline reset where there are a bunch of minor differences. To distinguish these fighters from past fighters as cheaply and lazily as possible. They can design characters however they want - it's their game. They don't owe you a faithful greatest hits of MK1-MK11. They're a greedy corporation trying to reach new audiences and make their game seem fresh.
Your opinion does not matter as much as you think it does. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean a group of villains must be crusading against you.

@morbidhandle13x The topic right now is gender swap, not about Shao Khan. A lot of people weren't happy how they made Shao khan into a General. A lot of people weren't happy about Scorpion not being Hanzo. A lot of people are not happy they turned Bi-Han into one dimensional bad guy when he wasn't in Mythologies. And don't get me started on Sindel from MK11.

As a person who’s favorite character in the entire series is Sektor, It’s not really the gender swap that annoys me, sure it’s unnecessary and kind of weird to change the gender of a robot, but I could really care less if the robot is female or male since it’s a robot. What really annoys me, is the choice it make them less cybernized. Sektor and Cyrax in MK11 was the best they’ve ever looked and I loved how they doubled down on the futurist, robot, aesthetic.

Stuff like Madame Bo works. She's great, likable, and actually badass. Basically if its just a "This is how this character would be if they were swapped." Thats fine.
Janet works similarly since she's a Kameo and logically if the multiverse exists, then there's several where Johnny is Janet. Again, fine. My lone gripe is that indeed, where's other possible swaps for the core cast?

I've noticed something with sektor in mk1. In sub zeros arcade ending sektor literally appears as a male character so that leads me to believe that maybe it is a new time-line because if it isn't it creates a rather big plot hole
I feel the same way as you bro. Cyrax, I don’t mind being a female. But Sektor is where the line gets crossed. I would only accept if Sektor was made female in order to be paired with Bi-Han in order to produce Sub-Zero’s son. Otherwise, Sektor should have stayed a man but oh well. Although if they both still play as similar to the original versions of Sektor and Cyrax, then I’ll be happy especially since Sektor and Cyrax are fully playable

I couldn’t really care less about sektor but Cyrax has been my favorite MK character since I was a young child. I always thought he was kick ass and loved the way he tried to rival sektor in MK 9, but I feel like the gender swap takes away from some of that personality. I would get it if the roster only had 1 or so women but we’ve got quite a lot. It just feels so unnecessary
I think its good to see men talking about our feelings we always have to consider others but we are ignored and sometimes shunded simply because we dont agree and feel somethings are better how they were to start and don't need change
