    As a GTP breeder with over 20 animals I gave used standard and bio active enclosures. Bio is nuch more challenging the issues are humidity required causes mold and mildew issues that cause respiratory infections and controlling snake mites is a nightmare

    Nice enclosure! It really helps bring out their natural beauty. I never liked seeing such gorgeous snakes in barren setups. Nothing wrong with challenging conventional husbandry wisdom as long as you have the knowledge and experience.

    Keeping a green tree in the bare basics is just about simplification. The hardest part of all this is putting together the enclosure that nice. Need more prebuilt options. For me, it takes an artist to create something like this. I manage some pothos, and anthuriums in pots. Wish I could figure out how to drape them in ways you have plants on the side here.

    Mad respect for you man. I really want a GTP one day but I've always hated their sterile set ups and the price of them always put off and going bioactive and getting it wrong. Seeing this has given me some confidence that when I am ready for getting one I can mimic their natural environment and have them THRIVE not just survive! THANK YOU!

    When I went to zsl they were using deep heat projectors, the other thing I didn’t notice with yours, they had a dark patch up the top at one side. The external heat bay you’ve made, has inspired me for my own projects. I’ll be stealing this. Great job buddy

Be interested to know your thoughts on when they are neonates. Particularly interesting on the branch size piece. love the set up and choice..

    One thing that peaked my interest was when people were telling you that you couldn’t keep them with high ventilation or screen lids. It reminded me of something I’ve questioned recently, and wondered if I could pick your brain on it? I’m in a lot of tortoise groups (specifically Herman’s, not something I’m considering any time soon, but I like to research sometimes many years in advance if I’m interested in an animal). In every group, there are people absolutely shunned for using wooden vivariums rather than a table, even if they’re the same size. I’m of the opinion outside is best and most natural too ofc, but for tiny hatchlings and those who need to have a place indoors when it’s too cold, I really can’t see a reason this advice is given. It’s because vivariums are bad for tortoises and give them respiratory issues apparently… but why? Why tortoises but every other reptile is fine in a viv? If there’s not enough ventilation, you can add more and also add electric fans to pull air though, so surely that can’t be a valid reason? Just thought it was odd! Of all reasons, I’d have thought they’d say no vivariums because it’s easier to make a bigger floor pen in a room but nah, tables still seem to come in the same sizes and be the most recommend housing for indoors. There was one lady I saw who had a vivarium because she rescued cats and they’d get the tortoise as it was in the living room. The group was advising her to get a table and not to let any cats into the living room, whilst she was trying to say it was impossible as it was the room in the middle of her house and temps were reading fine. The group was not happy she wouldn’t change to an open table and asked why she even bothered to take one in if she couldn’t give it what it needed 😅

      As long as the enclosure can be controlled then there is no issue. Keep an eye on the humidity . Recirculate the air once a day simply by just opening the doors then there is no issue
      One thing that I've found over the years is alot of people are stuck in the past . Just going of old knowledge and information when in modern times there has been so much scientific and tech advances that most of what we believed isn't as true today.
      Plus Facebook is a solid toxic place for reptiles haha

    • @ZoltanHercules
      @ZoltanHercules Před 2 lety

      The only thing I’d add, if you can get a viv that allows decent ventilation and allows for burrowing, so 6 inches, then there will be no issue, parameters are parameters at the end of the day. But I know for a fact they dig and can dig deep.
      Looking at the humidity of said places of habitation, your looking from 40% - 90% humidity at times.
      A table is good, but keeping that humidity is hard but can be done.
      Either way, do what you thinks best for your tortoise, or perspective tortoise. It’s that simple. As long as it has a decent life, who’s anyone to say anything?

    Amazing video! I keep my greens in a very similar style enclosure. I have neos in bioactive and sub adults aswell.Only difference is that i have waterfalls with fish/shrimp/yabbies on the bottom of their enclsoures and have either floating land or half land half water and i have perfect sheds. Great video! Nice to see someone else doing extra research to replicate their environment. I will be trying to breed in bioactive enclosures in the future aswell

      @@brandonmiller8971 yep, growing perfectly, never had any issues, perfect sheds all the time. I do keep them in very tall enclosures so they aren't near the ground. 30cm X 30cm X 60cm tall. I have shrimp and neon tetras in the bottom of one neo tank (half land half water). I made sure all the perches were over the land side to lessen the probability they will poo in the water.

      @@shikitorandall2173 awesome. Aside from a water feature that’s my plan. I have a bioactive enclosure already set up with removable perches. I was going against what everybody told me because I know snakes and refuse to believe these things will just kill over from having a natural environment. Good to hear the same thing from a keeper

  • @fazercraig9652
    @fazercraig9652 Před rokem

    I have never really asked breeders or pet shops really about advice on enclosures all I do is look at what temps they would receive in the wild and what kind of strength UVB they would receive then replicate that in a bio active environment. All 7 of my lizards have UVB access I will sometimes see my tokay basking in it too. I have just purchased a 132cmx45cmx90cm terralantis paldarium from swell to make a Chinese crocodile paldarium you should check them out when you next buy an enclosure.

    I'm still new to owning reptiles(my ball python is still young).
    But I am a very exprinced fish keeper.and those sterile setups remind of something in the fish keeping hobby.
    Betta bowls where yes the animal is alive and will breed but it doesn't meet the bare min of care for thriving condations.
    In fact a lot of the agurments I hear against reptiles needing bigger enclousred or cretain things sounds exactly like the agurments used against bettas.

Once I started doing my own thing with him a screwed expert advice he is thriving hes absolutely massive really strong shell he has lots of climbing places which he loves utilising but NO don't give snails stuff to climb on they will fall!! yeah no screw you i'd rather my snail enjoy its enrichment than worry he will fall.

    The one thing you really need to change is the shape of your enclosure. Many people assume because the GTP is arboreal that it needs more vertical space than horizontal, but this is a misconception. GTPs in the wild descend from their perches in the treetops at night to hunt on the ground. If you watch your python at night, you’ll see they get quite active on the ground, so they really need quite a bit of horizontal space to be able to move around and stretch out on the substrate. Unfortunately your current enclosure does not provide adequate ground space at all, I really hope you can give him a better suited enclosure soon so he isn’t stuck up on his perches with such a tiny space to come down to at nighttime.

  • @gagebunn3751
    @gagebunn3751 Před 17 dny

    I don't think they're saying you cant do it. I think they're saying that better methods are available. Sterile is best. Heat pads, tape or emitors are safer for these animals. If you keep like this and it works too that's fine but keeping them in enclosures the breeders keep them in are safer in every regard which is why they tell the buyer to do the same. You are adding risk to their health for the sake of how the set up looks so one could say its childish and selfish. And breeders want their animals to thrive so they tell the buyer's how to set up the snake for the best chance at success. I breed these animals and if they weren't given everything they need you couldn't breed them over and over successfully. It's okay if what you're doing works but saying breeders told you that you CANNOT keep these animals in other set ups besides sterile tubs is disingenuous in my honest opinion. Other options are available and will work but the best way to keep captive bred snakes is in a sterile environment.
