This repair was done in April 17, 2013 with a hand held camera, Samsung HMX-W190. The time when i started to video my repairs.
I could not afford the Gopro Hero 4 at the time. But the video still looks good.
If you are wondering why I didn't show video of me putting back the parts. My camera was already low on battery and it was getting late.

I assume your hourly rate is way cheaper than the main dealer. Please don’t forget that your equipment needs to get paid for, you rough yourself on the floor while fixing cars( the list could go on and on) and when you deal with so many cars, you never have enough tools, no matter how many tools you have, there is a day that you end up with a specific job that you need to buy a specific tool for that car. If people are not happy with your hourly rate, they can start buying tools and fixing their own cars. Believe me, they will change their minds about how much you charge. 😃😃You are not a charity, you do what you do because you need to earn your living. Happy new year.

I did this on my SC400 (same engine as the LS400) in 2020. I had almost NO experience fixing cars at that time. Took me 70 hours. I started on August 2nd, and finished on October 2nd. I think the shop standard with a lift, pro tools, and (obviously) a pro doing it, calls for 15 hours.
Mind you, I did end up replacing both valve cover gaskets, and ALL the connectors, grommits and O-Rings associated with the fuel injectors too, because every single connector basically shattered, the second I touched them.

Timing belt on the front and you don't have to take all of that off to get to it. But I kind of agree with you if you've got that much stuff taken off and if you were close to needing the belt changed it might be worth it to do it at the same time. Starter failure on these is not very common unlike the North Star v8s from GM which also had the starter under the intake.
not uncommon to get three or four hundred thousand miles out of one of these engines they're really really well made. Also one of the most mechanically quiet running and vibration free, engines I've ever heard.

Starter is in the same location for the Toyota 4.7 liter engine on the Tundra/Sequoia. Denso uses heavy duty contacts, brushes and bearings on these starters due to their location. I highly recommend replacing it with a Denso starter. Cheap starters and Oriellys and Auto Zone are not rebuilt to those same Denso standards. I’ve done this before and it is a lot of labor to access this starter.

When i called the local Lexus dealer, their parts department quoted $180 for the heater by itself, not including labor. I knew that vehicle used the same Toyota engine sold in normal cars, so I ordered the identical part with the identical part number from a Toyota dealer for $40. Shop around for parts if you own a Lexus, they add a huge surcharge because they, can.

Making a starter situated between the banks covered by intake plenum is a PITA. But it’s better than a water pump ran by a timing chain. Everyone just buy a 4 cylinder non-turbo Toyota or Honda and everything is easier to fix.

Still think they should have mounted it on the bellhousing like every other car I'm guessing there wasn't room. Overall that V8 is absolutely fantastically reliable.

Edit: Next day I had the same starter fail again and as I wrote below that I suspected a bad battery contact, I measured the voltage across the battery poles, connected a digital voltage display in the cigarette lighter socket and turned the key. Battery voltage did not flinch, but the lighter socket voltage dipped so much that the display went blank. So I knew to check the battery connections and it was the plus side that was loose. I tightened it adding a spring washer under the wing nut for good measure so it won't happen again. Problem solved.
This is definitely a case for a Tesla or some other electric car, although I am not a fan of e-cars and have an LS400 that just today had a starter failure for the first time in 30 years which is the reason I viewed this video. I did know the location of the starter so the job was not a surprise to me, but it did make me consider postponing the DIY as the failure was only temporary and I am yet not entirely sure if it was the starter that failed as it refused to turn 3 times and after I left the car standing for an hour it worked again like always before. It occurred to me it could be a bad contact from battery minus to engine body. Which would produce the same fault or symptom.
I will have to inspect this further to find out if my theory is correct. If the fault appears again and I can fix it using a jumper cable from battery minus to chassis then it will be an easy fix. If on the other hand it is caused by a bad contact in the starter I will have to dismantle everything anyway and in that case I will overhaul the whole upper part of the engine and change the timing belt as well.

Angel you should charge according for difficulty, time spend to replace new working product. Cause I've taken off some starters and alternators yet they were 5 to 10 minute job. Now what you just have in front of you, it's not only disassembly but remembering where everything goes back. So you should charge according to a scale from 1 being easy to a 10 taking you extra work and knowledge.
