I'm so sorry though, because of the Coronavirus situation in my city we are (and have been for a while) in shelter-in-place and are only allowed to go outside for essential to health reasons. I haven't left my apartment in over 2 weeks now with unfortunately no end in sight, so I'm not sure when I will actually be able to retrieve the package from the post office :(. It could likely be 1-2 months (or more) before I am able to check the P.O. Box depending on how the situation progresses. Again, I'm so sorry about this! I really appreciate you thinking of sending it out to me and I can't wait to check it out whenever I am able!

      @@RachelfGuitar We live down here in Carlsbad (San Diego), so we have similar "stay at home" restrictions. Post Offices are considered essential businesses, so when I mailed out the 100 CD/Calendar packages to my friends, we put on our face masks and went in. Everyone maintained at least a 6-foot distance, but it still gave us pause to wonder if this was the smart thing to do during this time. Since I am not noted for being terribly "smart" I went ahead anyway. Duh! If there is a way for me to send you my personal email address, without your 150,000 followers finding out, I would be glad to send it to you and then I can send you some digital files; otherwise, we'll all just wait this out. What i realized was that my sightreading became really good after the first few months but when it comes to solos i still can't read them properly. I found out that i missed to practise some techniques. Started practising a few months ago and the progress is amazing. So if you start with rocksmith don't forget to sit down and practise. I've been using Rocksmith for a few years now. For lockdown it's awesome with all the creator downloadable content (Tina Turner to Amon Amaroth). Favorite "arcade" game has to be Scale Racer. Not that I'm burning through scales like Zakk Wylde or anything. But I've been using this almost daily the past month. Great tool to get started and build confidence. Not much theory would be my only downside to it. Oh and no extended range instruments (7 or 8 string guitar, 5 or 6 string bass), although it does cover altered tunings (Open E, Drop D, Drop C#, ect) to make up for that. The tuner is pretty damn accurate is well. I've done more than a few set-ups and intonation adjustments with it.

  • @-Pol-

    To begin with I had some persistent issues with note recognition. It took a while to realise that the issue was my guitar's poor setup. This motivated me to learn how to setup my guitar myself and now that it's optimised it plays pretty much flawlessly. If you find that you're missing notes that you'd swear you hit I guarantee it's a setup issue. Dux Redux will definitely highlight if the guitar's intonation is off; on mine for instance, the high e string was too low at the bridge and so would mute itself against the higher frets. Pickup/pole height (not too far or too close either) was also critical to getting the thin strings to register notes higher up the neck for me. Bear this in mind when you read reviews from people complaining about missing notes.

    I've been learning solely with Rocksmith for the past 3 months. It's amazing to be able to play along with your favorite music with the tabs right on the screen AND it scales the difficulty for you so as you learn the song it introduces more complex chords and adds more things. It's so flexible and dynamic. The downside of course is you have to buy the songs you want. But overall, it's a major reason I've kept playing.

      The main problem I have with rocksmith is that at the beginning it's easy and later on you get more notes. Problem with this is that sometimes you get used to a certain fingering and when the game makes it harder for you you have to get used to a new fingering. What I usually do is put max difficulty but with slow speed it sort of helps.

    The secret to the string skip saloon to get it to really hear what's going on. You need to mute. Constantly. I mean each time you hit a string, mute everything. Of course left hand muting works well since you're not really using it. Or... Like the guitarist I was in my youth, lift the palm enough to get it to ring, then heavy palm it, but it does work, as long as there isn't excess noise.
    Session mode, reads the volume and attack transients over time, to be able to adapt its own dynamics. It plays a pretty good rhythm and the chords are very simple, so if you stay in key it will always sound alright. I'm simplifying a little. The amount of code voodoo to make it happen is insane.
    for others that have trouble with it tracking the pitch correctly or the The rest of the games in general, To get them tracking well, one, don't use an active guitar if you can help it, it HATES my Schecter. it Loves my les Paul. Something to also keep in mind, it's VERY sensitive to changes in volume and intonation. So a good setup is a great idea, It doesn't like the mud that comes with heavier strings. So playing 8s or 9s is highly recommended (I normally play anything from 10s to 12s, it does not like the darker tone of it). It isn't fond of my neck pickup. it's not bright enough for their code to handle properly.
    So the advice, make sure you have appropriate strings.
    Make sure you have a good setup on the guitar (intonation is important. also important is pickup height, if they are close you can get warble in the tone which causes rocksmith to not like it, even before that warble is audible to the player the game may freak out. so worth noting)
    Calibrate. Every time you play. It gets really weird about input gain, if things aren't tracking well, check your tuning, open and at the octave (or octave harmonic and octave fretted). if the tuning is good at open and octave. Calibrate again.
    Play on the bridge pickup.
    Make sure your tone knobs are CRANKED. Their code that processes the audio makes that assumption, I advise against playing that way outside of the game, but their code is designed to have everything at max so it can handle the rest tone wise.
    if you're using an active guitar. on PC, go to the windows input settings and turn down the gain there a lot. Then calibrate, the game will adjust the gain, but if you don't start low, it doesn't quite get it right in my experience. I've not used the active on my roomates xbox so on that I'm not helpful, maybe it works better on consoles without having to mess with it.
    if that's still not getting it sounding or tracking right a more expensive (and a lot more work) option is using a recording interface as input, this requires a 3rd party library to work, annnnnd it requires a lot of trial and error with the input settings inside an ini file to get it right. but it brings down the latency a lot and presents a cleaner signal, and rocksmith does work great that way.
    The game has it's limits in a lot of ways on the technical side of things. HOWEVER if everything is set up properly. It is surprising reliable.

    yeah love rocksmith myself. Mainly tone designer, and learn a song always at full difficulty, pretty often every week lol. After watching your video I am thinking I should use guitarcade and session mode a lot more now, looks a lot more fun than i remember lol.

    I have been using rocksmith for over 1000 hours now started out without no knowledge and I can say I'm pretty decent now :) It definitely can be tricky to get in to at the start but if you keep at it it is definitely a good way to improve your guitar playing. One tip is to use an own amp (requires some more pedals/switches) but it is definitely worth it in the end as you can hear yourself way better.

    I’ve been using Rocksmith to learn bass. The lessons are pretty cool, but sometimes it doesn’t register when I play a note and tell me I’m not playing it right even though I’m playing exactly the string/fret it’s telling me to. My favorite mode is the Learn A Song section. Love trying to play along with Queensrÿche or Skid Row. Definitely a challenge trying to keep up with those guys. I’ve all but mastered Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me (eat your heart out, Sav! 😆). 🤘🏻

      Jonathan Rousseau I would disagree. I started off on rocksmith and I found it a pretty easy concept to start off on. I wouldn’t say to stick with it as a permanent learning tool but it really gave me the inspiration to continue playing guitar

    I'm actually not into games but in the beginning trying to figure out what to learn first was a nightmare so I just went with something where I could hear my progress. I think it does help to a point but recalling chords by name, not so much and actually remembering a whole song, not so much either unless you stay strictly on one song?
    Most people are better visual learners which I think is their selling point. Been using it for about a year and a half.

    personally ive found using a audio interface has a higher degree of acuracy than the cable that comes with the game. even a cheap one i got from amazon for $30, which if you're like me and already have one for recording mics, keyboards.....ect makes the game a lot more responsive and accurate. you do have to launch the game through a different little launcher but its easy enough to get going just by googling it and i would recommend it to anyone that buys the game on steam and doesnt have the cable or that already had a audio interface. made the game 110% better for me at least..

    Its cheaper then a guitar teacher! Best investment I ever made! + With real tone cable you can record your music into music maker software too! Just discovered how to record on FL Studio! So excited to create some bangers!

    Hey you can get Rocksmith 1 on sale and then use the import tool to get the previous version’s songs

    • @RobWence
      @RobWence Před 4 lety +1

      You only get a few songs that route... you don't get all the previous songs from version 1. The only converted a few songs from the first game to be compatible with the current game. Although Customsforge website is a nice place to get pretty much any song you want (that isn't a official dlc release)

    I used to play Rocksmith on my Xbox 360 years ago and it was loads of fun. I've recently tried playing on my MacBook Pro and the latency is terrible. I've tried all of the suggestions on the Rocksmith site but to no avail. Wish i could play it though. I miss jamming with the real tunes.

  • @AndrewAviles
    @AndrewAviles Před 4 lety +2

    if you legit want to learn the songs, I feel like the best way to do it is play on the highest difficulty as its closest to the actual tabs, and just take the time to learn each part slowly. Scaling up using the AI difficulty by playing simple parts, like notes here and there, doesnt really seem to teach much, but is fun none the less. :)

    • @r3apergamer539
      @r3apergamer539 Před 4 lety +2

      You can use an interface, but the game works a lot better with their cable.

    • @RachelfGuitar
      @RachelfGuitar  Před 4 lety +4

      There are some kind of involved ways to get it to work with an interface, but for the video I had to use the special USB cable because I needed to also record my computer audio and couldn't get that working properly if I used the interface with the game. So it is possible to get it working with an interface, but might be a bit tricky to setup properly!

    • @GaijinMo

      @@r3apergamer539 Do you mean that it's simply easier to set up or that the gameplay itself functions better with the proprietary cable? Thanks.

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 Před 4 lety +1

      The cable you need for optimum play is the Rocksmith RealTone cable. An update happened a while back that removed the compulsory need for such a cable by allowing a microphone to be close to your guitar/bass while you play but you would have to be careful that there was not too much background noise where you played or the game might struggle to pick up the notes you are playing.

    Hi Rachel, Cool video. Have you ever heard or tried Band-in-Box. It is a computer program where you can set-up a faux band to play along with you. It's not a game like Rocksmith more of tool for musicians, but you can get a whole session going with a computer. It also has these game-like learning tools where you can test your ear or other musicianship aspects.
