Children Of the Forest can make anyone cry with their songs....should have done that and made the Night King atleast cry before dying! Great video!
the dawn age is one of the times in westerosi history i would love to see a prequel for...roberts rebellion is the obvious show HBO could do as a prequel but the dawn age also has alot of backstory lore that could be brought to the small screen - awesome vid as always Civ
Moejii - same tbh I’d love a prequel on the rise of the Valyrian Freehold up until their end in the doom also
The story is in resemblance to Britain/Ireland history coming up in their time
theres too much magic in the dawn age for HBO.
The Giants and the Children lived happy until humans arrived. Humans can't have nice things.

+The Fiddler A recipe that was probably stolen from an ancient civilization of magical bakers 😞
...until the human nation attacked
I would kill them all for a piece of rock :)
actually I would keep a few as pets
The tragedy at Summerhall was an inside jo
That moment when you realize you knew all the information presented …
That moment after that when you realize you have a problem.
The moment when you haven’t even read a page from the books but somehow now know all the time lines, houses, battles, lovers etc..
lol thanks yt and this channel for your many lessons.. I will never forget them;)
awesome man. Thank you very much

You got some good videos here, been looking for a tv show to watch for eternity but your videos really fill that hole keep it up
What shows do you like ?
great use of book and tv lore
Love these series, keeps me alive in between episodes
Yes new music!
Thinking about it, how the "first men" of the dawn era waged war and nearly defeated the "children of the forest" if not for the truce. What if *the first men knew alot of old "apotropaic traditions," charms, seals, rites, and incantations that turned away the few harmful magics that the children had,* thus leaving them at quite the disadvantage against their physically more imposing foes. Such folk traditions and protective charms have been around for a long time (since like forever!) And may be apart of some of the oldest traditions of magic in human history. I mean much of what we think of magic today, fireballs, lighningbolts, shadowbolts, and all that jazz are a VERY recent invention, a modern take on archaic spellcraft. For most of history magic and spells had more to do with (and this is SUPER simplified..) curses and counter-courses, things like evil magic inovled casting misfortune and ruin apone an object of veangece or hate.
Such as blight on crops, turning men into mindless beasts as punishment, cause fear or create disarray, bringing disharmony (recently things just doesn't seem to be going your way..) making life a living hell, not much to do with killing itself but to prolonge a person's suffering. Though there are some death hexes and killing curses but they are few and far between compared to just about any other spell meant to cause harm. Anyway back on topic, when hearing about the children my impression is that much of their magic isn't meant for bringing harm or causing misfortune, rather it seems more whimsical in nature. For the most part harmless on it's own, though I could easily see it being used in trickery and misdirection, difficult for an opponent to strike the killing blow if he's unsure is your going to shapeshift into a bird or sink into a near by tree like water!
luckly for humans for every trick theirs a counter, enemy turn into a bird? Speak an incantation at the right moment while your foe sores high in the sky to cause them to revert back to their true (flightless) form and watch as they fall to their death! The fea-like trickster thinks he's so clever hiding as tree eh? Pretend to give up the chase, this will likely cause him to come out of his hiding place to gloat and rub it in your face. (and within range of your axe's head..) He can't help but feel compelled to indulge himself at his own peril!
*"for any spell their is a counter(s), another spell, using your foes hubris against him, or just some clever ruse..."*

CivX i think your channel is amazing, informative, entertaining, and very underappreciated. I learn something from every one of your videos even though I'm on my third read. I love you!
Thanks! :)
I absolutely love these videos! Their so informative. Sometimes I get so invested in them I forget it's fiction, it sounds, looks & reads like actual history & lore! Brilliantly done 👍
4:15 that is only in the hbo show
awesome video, as always. Well done
I would love to see a TV adaptation of this period
Wun wun couldve lived if he had a weapon
ikr! just give him a massive hammer or a massive shield!
+Fawwaz Syarif he could of just rolled over the Bolton men or kick out the way anyways sad that a species of great people gone but not forgotten
American Sniper Might be more of them somewhere.
Sharpen one side of a tree at least hah
Yeah, but they probably won't survive the White Walkers unless they manage to get to the Wall, and even then there is no guarantee that they won't be hostile towards the Night's Watch.
Keep up the good work friend!
Your vids are fantastic dude and the voice is on a Morgan freeman level
Awesome video, as always, well done💯👍👏
Keep making these videos homie
Thanks for video bro I subbed to you
Awesome channel and content. Oh and also I'd love to see a video about the battle of the Fist of the First Men and also about the remaining Targaryen loyalists !
love the video please do more like. keep up the great work!
Just stumbled into this playlist starting at 1…here we go
love your work, mate!!!
:)
excellent as always
if i only cared this much about actual history
i wonder how these times were like in essos
real recognizes real
I always figured the children wielded the obsidian blades because the walkers were always a thing. And they were the "Defense" keeping The Other from conquering all
Maggot Prince well, your wrong. they used obsidian daggers for diff kinds of things such as hunting, crafting and rituals. :)
Excellent video
Nice work
I know ASOIAF history better than real history lmao.
nice video btw :3
realy loving your vids.
just one question can you upload about 1 vid an hour?
And how this explained 13th Lord commander of Night's watch and the Night Queen ?
Not true Giants and Children had some fights while living together.
They were never as massive or bloody as human conflicts.
Frank G that right!
Sophia Wilson Of course, that is how escalation works: one group will always be one step ahead of another.
is there a focus video for aegon the conquer. loving this video though
So good.
wow you guys do amazing videos. Are you going to do any lord of the rings videos form the book of lost tales?
I thought that giants killed few children from time to time, they talked about them as banes or something
You should do these about the elder scrolls universe.
Here we go
+CivilizationEx
hi! would you do a video on all kinds of magic in asoiaf?
I may in the future, but I feel we don't know enough about it yet
Could you possibly do a video on lesser characters (like you did one on the lesser houses for example) Like Ser Duncan the Tall and that kinda stuff
Polandballcanintospace I definetly will at some point, I have many smaller characters on my list of topics but it's a long list so may take awhile
CivilizationEx
really appreciate your channel. will be looking forward to more asoiaf vids :)
Wow great vidio;) Like!
I like this Dawn Age video better than the first one.
Thanks! Trying to update and improve older vids :)
Wonder King Yes I think that will happen in the books, it was already a theory before the show did it, and it makes sense.
Just gotta ask, with George RR Martin stating that some of Season 6 and future seasons will spoil 'The Winds Of Winter' and probably 'A Dream Of Spring' and the fact that the show has now diverged way too much from the novels and relied a lot on original content, is it possible that the future novels will establish that the Children Of The Forest created the Others/White Walkers? I honestly like the idea of the Others being the children of the Great Other better as it adds a more mythological and supernatural feel to the Others.
Am I the only one that thought of naruto when he said villages hidden in the forests
You're awesome! Could you do a video on Ser Criston Cole?
they were able to destroy a massive chunk of land but weren't able to fight humans? what?
They probably didn't sit in a single clump to get wasted like Jon Snow did.
They didn't have the Knights of the Vale to help them
My username is so obnoxiously long and there is absolutely nothing you can do about the matter
Not everyone has a creepy 'uncle'.
humans have multiple advantages over the children of the forest
1. humans are physically larger this makes them stronger and more capable in close-range combat.
2. humans possessed bronze weaponry which was more effective than the stone, wood and obsidian Weaponry of the children.
3.the children have a small population and reproduce very slowly the first men reproduced much faster
4. the first man that by this time domesticated horses could try giving them greater Mobility and offense.
mj sal ritual magic doesn't sound like it'd work great in combat.
But then everything changed when the fire nation attacked.
DeAndre Oglesby “first men nation”
DeAndre Oglesby change fire to ice and it’ll be way better
But then everything changed when the first men attacked.
You're amazing. I think your knowledge might be even better than Martin himself.
True. I believe he follows this channel to keep up with the story he creates.
He is good but you should check out preston jacobs and altshiftx. These guys know the books better then any other youtuber or give at least a more vast insight into asoiaf. (Sry for bas english)
I have. In overall history CivilizationEx is far better than any. Evidence is in number of videos with quality.
Just about... lol. and cheers, Jos. I'll have a go on those channels. Peace, nerds.
+Jos Josson Preston knows more than anyone. but I love civ x
I hope that there is a continent or some excluded place where lots of chidlren of the forest live
what about the space ships
The children of the forest are pretty shit at magic, they let bronze age men defeat them! (I still hope they are not extinct).
In the show
The coelacanth was extinct as well.
Yeah but it would seem that the first men had some sort of advanced technology that is now lost, after all how could they ever beat the children, and make places like Storm's End or the Wall.
***** I don't care if the first man had giant's and CoTF helping them, it doesn't make any sense how they could build the Wall. The First men didn't even have a written language, how are you supposed to make plans, and coordinate such a large scale build without writing. The CoTF are extremely powerful, there's no way the first men could beat them without some sort of lost technology (and or magic.) The CoTF could see across the world, control animals, mess with the minds of people, throw fireballs, flood huge area's of land, easily hide and do guerrilla warfare, have all the knowledge of there ancestors, could make White walkers, possibly had the Giant's on there side and were much better suited for there environments. Against this the First men had larger numbers, somewhat better tools, and weapons, and were physically stronger, and the First men's numbers were limited after the arm of Dorne was shattered.
***** Well First man didn't have steel, only bronze, and I don't think they were that organized either. The fireballs seemed to be extremely powerful, against large groups of enemy's, and armour probably wouldn't defend against it to much. But even if they were well organized, and were marching in a large armies, the children know the land, they would never engage First men directly on a battlefield. Can you imagine the first man trying to even get through what is now the Neck, into the North. The wildlife and environment would be dangerous enough without the children being a threat with there magic all the time as well. If the First men were that organized, and some how made castles or forts to stay in, then why didn't the children just flood that like they did with the arm of Dorne. I never thought the First men would have organized armies or even all be on the same side. Plus they didn't seem to fair to while against the Andal invaders, who seemly only had somewhat better weaponry, and were most likely outnumbered by the First men. Plus it's bizarre that there has been so little technological advancement in over 12000 years, they went from bronze to iron tools, go back 12000 years in are world there has been huge advancements. The only reason why I can thing this would be the case, is if they were far more technologically advanced, allowing them to do amazing and seemly impossible feat's that the modern day people of Westeros would have no hope of recreating, and than a apocalyptic event happened (the long night) forcing people underground, as a lot places are subterranean (like bunkers.) After this they lose there advanced technology, starting from nearly scratch, making it so they weren't in the dark ages for 12000 years ( or even much longer) and were in stead just starting from the beginning and working up over the course of half that. Other wise I can't imagine the First men being able to do such incredible feats that people on Planteos can't seem to do in modern times, IDK this is just some crazy theories and most of it well probably not be true, sorry for such a long post.
Sir I love your videos they are great and I know you said "IF" "Might Have" that children may create Others/White Walkers this only show canon. In the books this theory does not fit why create the race after the pack? How the head White Walkers Maester got away from the children?.
Old tongue is language of First men. Giants didn't speak it before First men arrived to Westeros.
Actually it’s not.. You’ve got it backwards…
Love your clips about the books. However, which clips should I begin with? I'm not an English native speaker, I'm not able to read the books. The only way I could to understand the books is your clips.
Here is a list of videos you can start with, I suggest starting with the Beginner's Guide, as that covers the entire history of this world in 20 mins. Then I would say you should check out the playlist to get more details on specific time periods. Then finally you can watch my Timeline video as that covers the entire history of the world in detail, including the events of the novels.

Children Of The Forest always feels like a copy of elves, just with a different race name.
there are other races in this universe that is also like the elves and dwarfs there's even murluks etc..
Kokiri
i think what happened here is that after The alliance beat the others. All the ice melted which increases water level flooding arm of dorne and made those swamps and marshlands
Jon is a dayne!!!
I believe this too on his mother side but the show is going a different direction.
No, its not going in a different direction, the same will be revealed in the next book. You guys are really dumb, they can't just change who Jon Snows mother is on the show, thats a HUGE plot point...
Also, before getting to do the show GRRM asksd D&D who jon snows mother was, then they gave an answer, and he just kind of smirked ( because they were right )... It's not dayne, even a blind man can tell. Honestly, why are you book readers so fucking stubborn? Especially when you are incorrect, as in this case... Either way, you will be proven wrong when the book is out, so I don't care.
@@sophiawilson8696 yeah about that...
make a focus video of Brienne of tarth
I read Isle of Faces as Isle of Faeces
I wish I had drive to tolerate these books just to read the lore.
How is the creation of the White Walkers by the Children of the Forest theory? We explicitly saw this in the show. You even showed near the exact scene.
These videos are based on the books, it has not happened in the books yet, so it is a theory.
So your "theory" just so happens to coincide directly with the show based on the books? Seems a bit sketchy. Granted, the show doesn't necessarily fall directly in line with the books, but that is still some stretched explanation. Don't get me wrong, I like your channel and think you do a good job with the information and explaining it-I just think its a bit..uhm..."dishonest" isn't the right word, but perhaps giving a false impression to represent information gleaned from the show as a theory.
USArmyMedic 1 lol it's obviously not a coincidence, I included it directly because it was shown in the show and now is likely to happen in the books. It is a theory because it hasn't happened in the books, I didn't mention it happened in the show because these vids are not about the show.
but the children had fucking plasma grenades
ds22342 they're seriously outnumbered maybe 10 to 1 or more. In the show 4 CotF cant beat 10-15 wights.
what happened to the first king?
Died.
❤
I found out in the show canon that children create the others during the Dawn Age, but they never use them because they (others) broke free of the children's control hid for 2000 years then attack during the Age of Heroes the Children kept their mouths close about creating of the Walkers for 10,000 years.
The Others were created after peace between the Children and the First Men has already been established. So, why would the Children create the Others when they were no longer fighting the First Men?
Time4aKiss you got it wrong. CotF made The Others as a last option against the first men.
I love you videos but how is it a theory is the show already showed it
It hasn't happened in the books yet, and these vids are based on the books.
WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T WUN WUN HAVE A WEAPON AT WINTERFELL?!?! WHYYYY????!
Because Jon Snow is the worst army commander in the history of Westeros.
If the children of the forest created the others, why were there others invading the lands of Yi Ti during the long night?
Gad Yariv that was a demon army sent by the gods, or so it says in the Essos myths, I'm nosy sure the others and that demon army were the same
ButtCancer theyre the same
I love you videos but when you say some believe or theory suggests and it's just based on the show just say the show said it
So where were the Giants while the children were at war with the First Men?
The Children with their magic and the Giants together should have been able to fuck up the First Men imo
Stizzfoshizz they're not friendly. Its probably 3 way war.
you underestimate how fucking scary our species is.. smarter than giants.. but stronger than children of the forest.. and also our numbers.. humans lack honor so we always win by taking the dirty route to war
the white walkers are ultron
I like to think the first men worshipped a primitive version of R'hollor, like most of the Middle East worshiped El before Islam grew and it became Allah. I think this because of the burning of the Old Gods' trees, something Melisandre is all for in the books
Arabs worshipped out ?? What became Allah ?? Arabs were worshippin'pegan Gods, were christains and jews ... Allah is the christian/jewish God .. But the red God looks more like Zoroastrism
+Pokoirl YaSe a quick Interenet search could help you more than I could but, I'll try to explain. Of the many pantheons of the Middle East, those of Bel/El were more prominent. Bel became Baal and was later turned into Yahweh of Judaism and Baal Hammun of Phoenician. El was a pagan god like Baal with a confusing pantheon, but the word meant god. When Judaism became Islam, El had already become Al-lat, another pagan god. From there, the paganism was dropped and El/Al-lat became Allah. Hence why I say Primitive version of R'hollor, as examples like El/Bel are primitive versions of what became Allah.
+Azazel Dryland internet*
+Azazel Dryland and christainity of all this ? The God "Allah" (which is a dumb way to say "the God God" since Allah means God in arabic) is the same deity as the Jew and Chritians God ... If you're sayin'that the 3 abrahamic religions are the same God derived from some old proto God then i can'argue with that .. But Al-lat and Al-uzza have nothin'to do with Allah .. They were pegan Gods that existed long after the 2 first abrahamic religions were dominant .. And they were antagonists to Allah when Mohammed tried to spread islam
+Azazel Dryland arab chritians and arab jews call their God "Allah" and the God in the arabic version of the bible is "Allah"
