Hooping against Tough Kids in a Guatemalan Village 🇬🇹

- Today I visited San Marcos, another Mayan village on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.To be honest with you, it was literally my least favorite village for personal reasons that I analyze in the video.
However, I was lucky enough to try some amazing local street food and play basketball against some very tough kids who can have a great future in the game.
I really hope that Guatemalan agents pay attention to the villages because the talent exists even in the most unexpected places!

hola Tim...nice to share your trip of the lake and Guatemala.I travelled (backpacked like you in 2000) and travelled/lived/worked and married there ! i cant believe to see the changes. san marcos, in 2000 it was sooo simple-still kinda hippy/spiritual but mostly local people living their life. Believe me brother, you have a great human vibe and will have great experiences where ever you travel. Your language skills and willingness to connect are the way to have amazing experiences on your trip. The Guatemalans are wonderful people and have made good from very difficult circumstances. subscribed..stay safe. I have been following you for about a week or so. I understand the bad experience in San Marcos especially with those kids demanding money from you if I visit a place like that let's say from the city or somewhere else I usually don't allow those type of kids to help me out on anything because their parents teach them to be like that with the tourists. So I personally wouldn't give any money to those kinds of kids and the drunk ones either and I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. I love your videos my friend stay safe!

Tourists don't want to understand the people/culture. They just want a photo opportunity for Instagram to show how rich they are. Especially the "hippies"; they're all spoiled rich kids that have never worked in their lives...and use these places to feel like kings over regular people, because back in the US we would tell them off for being spoiled rich kids with no job.

The ones just asking for money are clearly drunk, they just want money to keep drinking. No one else asks for money, they offer their services as giving tours or things like that because they know they have to earn it but that village, San Marcos, definitely looks like it got a bit ruined by the tourists, a bit.
