- Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival known as the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’, is officially celebrated on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday every year. The Carnival festivities start just after Christmas and continue until Ash Wednesday, with dozens of high energy parties and premier cultural competitions. From its diverse people and culture to its amazing biodiversity, Trinidad and Tobago ‘break the mould’ of the typical Caribbean destination and boasts a year-long calendar of cultural events and festivals, friendly, multi-ethnic people and amazing adventure.
This event is well known for participants' colorful costumes and exuberant celebrations. There are numerous cultural events such as "band launch fetes" running in the lead up to the street parade on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. It is said that if the islanders are not celebrating it, then they are preparing for it, while reminiscing about the past year's festival. Traditionally, the festival is associated with calypso music, with its origins formulated in the midst of hardship for enslaved West and Central Africans; however, recently Soca music has replaced calypso as the most celebrated type of music. Costumes (sometimes called "mas"), stick-fighting and limbo competitions are also important components of the festival.

Beautiful ❤️🌹 you got some great videos!! Hope you had a good time ? ❤️
I must say, I watched many video clips of Trinidad carnival, but your videos were the best. Very informative, great coverage, and I'm very proud of you. You are always welcome to my country, sweet T&T.
It looks as if there are going to live for ever, wise people never die but just sleep, only fools who forget about their creator are the ones who can die and rot in HELL, what a wonderful moment that it was, we should also find our time as well to go and dance for God.
Thanks AT. Y ou described T&T Carnival so well not forgetting the historic relevance and a sense of country pride and unity .
African tigress congratulations you did my country carnival in Trinidad and Tobago justice ialso see you enjoyed the panorama steel bands well done ✅ hope you come again❤❤😊
AT, you deserve a free trip to our country every Carnival, you covered it so well, you even spoke about the history of our CARNIVAL ,many do not know it's just not a PARTY ON THE STREETS, there is real history behind it, I felt proud as a TRINI listening to you explain ,what's it all about, your coverage was also excellent, you did my country proud over the last few weeks, it was truly a job well done, I am a Subscriber for life.❤
I met dance and took pictures with Wendy Fitzgerald at Miss Carol place right after she was crown Miss Universe and the vibes was real nice. For those who don't know, Trinidad and Tobago own Jannelle Penny Commissiong is the first black woman to win the Miss Universe crown along with Miss Photogenic that same year in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic 1977
Fantastic job Tigress well done keep up the great work ❤️🇨🇦&🇹🇹
Your coverage is awesome. You did a wonderful job of explaining Trinidad and Tobago carnnival
Awesome job. You continue to be a winner in describing the carnival. It brought back memories when I played with Harts band.
You are truly appreciated, and may many blessings continue to flow.🎉❤
That lady looks gorgeous at 51.l'm at my early 40s and still looking good for my age.❤
You ar quite Young my Dear Now start to Bloom
40 is very Young 🤔
I Always find Trini 🇹🇹 Ppl Never looked their age always
10yrs Younger
And Why I'm saying that' is because I find Ppl outside Cld Never
CLD Tell our age..
Growing Up out side 😏😉
That 51 year old person is Miss World 1998 and her name is Wendy FitzWilliams. She plays mas every carnival. She is the second person from T&T to win Miss World. The first was Giselle LaRonde in 1986. T&T also has the first black woman to win the Miss Universe competition and her name is Janelle 'Penny' Commissiong and she won in 1977.
Actually, she is the second to win Miss Universe and NOT Miss World! Janelle Penny Commissiong was the first Miss Universe for T&T 1977 and the first black woman to win Miss Universe. Giselle La Ronde is the first and only Miss World for T&T 1986.
So happy you can visit trinidad 🇹🇹 one of the best islands ❤️ my beautiful island ❤❤

Beautiful video 🇹🇹👍
This is an Awesome Presentation Explaining and great editing Absolutely Amazing A Professional Job Well Done A T.
I remember Janelle (forgot surname) became Miss Universe in 1977 (the first person of African heritage to win a world beauty pageant) and Giselle Laronde won the 1986 Miss World title. Janelle should be around 70 and Giselle around 60. What year did Wendi win her Miss Universe?
Wendy won in 1998
Yes and Janelle Penny Commissiong is 70 and still looks gorgeous. Love all our queens. Check link above
@@beverlyholand Thanks, I see why I didn't know about her. I am an old goat, on the other side of 70, which is why I remember Janelle very well, and some recollection of Giselle. By 1998, I have lost interest in beauty pageant, and didn't know the winners; also, there were apparently many of them by then instead of Miss World and Miss Universe that existed in the 1960s and 70s.
You're welcome. I remember Wendy winning because she was so pretty and well-spoken a true black beauty, flawless skin she deserves her win that year.
❤️❤️❤️love 🇹🇹🇹🇹
Invite me friend 😂😂 looks fun 💃🕺
Welcome Princess Tigress, you did a great Comitree about Trinidad Carnival , hope that you had a safe flight back to your lovely Country.
Good morning. My. Name is. Keon. McDonald. I'm. From. Trinidad and Tobago. And I. Love. Soca and carnival.
Great African Tigress... Thanks for your commentaries. They are really very informative, even for me. The largest Carnival outside of the Caribbean is the Toronto Caribana, which I have attended sporadically the last 35 years, always as a spectator. Never knew their costumes could be this pricey - $1000 for most basic ladies costumes and $200-$600 for backpacks...
Covid-induced world inflations of the last few years could have contributed too. Now, I will show more respect to carnival participants, because they must be very comfortable people. Wearing masks in Canivals is definitely not for the poor.😃
Good job Tigress.Happy Sabbath team AT
You did an amazing job. I hope you return next day
It is fascinating to see Afrikaners also from South Africa taking part.. ha-ha-ha...

TIGRESS YOU NEED TO TRY OUR "BALATA", ITS IN SEASON......& IF YOU WANT SOME MORE FRESH AIR, CHECK OUT THE (LOOKOUT IN PARAMIN), ITS NESTLED IN THE NORTHERN-RANGE MOUNTAINS OF MARAVAL, & THE VIEW IS AWSOME........
Pretty cool
Wow mi love this big up African tigress ❤🇯🇲
Thanks for the video. You did a good job with the narrative. As a Trinidadian, could we get the names of the bands as they past, if you do this again, otherwise sometimes it looks like one big band. We would like to know whose band it is because we know who the band leaders are. Next time to really see some elaborate costumes, see if you could get to the Socadrome early in the morning to capture some of the larger bands with nicer costumes instead of the simple dress down costumes at the Savannah. You can come to the Savannah after. A lot of the big costumed bands don't come here. You can arrange for a car to past the back streets, up in St. Clair to get you to the Savannah after the Socadrome. You will notice the big difference in some of the costumes. I wish they could go back to the old time costumes when it was worth seeing the bands. Some of these bands should not be allowed to dress as if it was Monday.
Love an miss Trinidad..Invite me next time please.love you all .My dad is buried in Point.❤😂❤
Very good coverage, very informative, you coming to Toronro Caribbean Carnival?
Lovs ittttttt❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Trinidad is the maker of all carnival after africa not Brazil look at the history
Tell them 🗣️🇬🇭🇹🇹
Wow so many people
Thanks u for highlighting me I was holding the nebula flag in the end of the video
❤
Yo the cripple and all jumping up for carnival. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ he dam right
Great video
There are more people in the parade than in the stands watching. The stands are almost empty.
This can only happen only in one place on earth.. That is in T & T.. Definitely not in Siberia...
Não tem melhor caranaval do brasil
Brasil's carnival is amazing. It is not a competition between Trinidad and Tobago and Brasil. Our carnival is unique. multilayered and magical and there are over 100 Trini style carnivals worldwide. This is the truth, but it does not make Brasil's carnival any better or worse. Brasil still has a beautiful carnival. Let's celebrate each other.
@@KL-tz7xi.Well said.
Thanks for your post. Kindly mention when the event shown in the Video was held on Monday or Tuesday Feb 2024.

It seems like the criteria for ladies is to be cute..
Hehehe 🤔😮
Nobody is going to wear those skimpies, if they are not cute, and with a lot of self-confidence. Honestly, I have always admired the Caribbean ladies for their confidence in the near nude costumes.
I think some of them have on skin colour "tights".
But it still looked ridiculous .. 🤔
It is sad that you feel that way.. On this issue I try not to be judgmental.. By so doing I found the Carnival enjoyable..
Road March winner'$ prize is TT$250,000 or just under USD $40,000
This STARTED when Trinidad was sort of set free by the british ,
You have the same birthday as my daughter.

Black power men like Malcom X and stroky Carmichael has trinidad roots
Malcom x mom was from grenada
@@angiejulien546 thanks for knowledge
"Stokely"
Malcolm's roots is a Little from Grenada
Malcom X have Grenada roots . His mother is from Grenada. Many Trinidadians have Grenadian roots.
Actually first came to Trinidad in 1783 with the French setfleds.
I believe the French colonizers started the carnival celebration.
There were quite a few big (huge) bands back then. Hart is as till around , Saldenahs, Stephen Leung, Peter Minshall, Wayne Barkley, George Bailey, MacFarlane, Peter Minshall was something else. Check the ARCHIVES. THAT WAS CARNIVAL.
Steelbands used to play Classical music too! Those were the days!!!
Yes it was beautiful time
The French were not colonisers ; they were the aristocratic planters brought in by the Spanish colonisers to open up plantations in Trinidad. The French were the ones who started carnival celebrations which were copied by the African slaves and from there carnival in Trinidad developed into what it is today.
Bring on The Mighty Sparrow.
The first African to land on the moon is going to be Kenyan..
🤣 na na .. it would be a Nigerian🤣 Stop playing😃
I think both Nigeria and Kenya will be first.. It always takes a crew to land there.. Both Nigeria and Kenya were at the Carnival.. Pretty women indeed..

Hmm.. African Tigress yes u do have a point from a spectator perspective = something I think the National Carnival Committee ‘NCC’ should consider.
Did you attend jouvert night, African Tigress?
What a pity. That did not look like the Greatest Show on Earth. it used to be ... decades ago. Now, it just looks like a see of people in tired looking feathered wings and stringed bikinis dancing on stage. The real costumes are now so few and far between, what I saw here looks ugly. I am 61 and I know what it used to be. Its now just a street party. Nothing more.
Not just carnival but most things have changed since you were younger(you're still young) and will continue to change.. I am part of your generation but this is a different age and no going back. Like i tell my old friends who are afraid of the new age technical stuff, "you either get with it or you get left behind". MAGA is just an illusion.
Very different from last year. How you doing girlfriend.
Hey again dis the season for the big celebration in .TNT the truth is this is not, carnival the way I know it ..❤
If anyone wants to watch a real carnival, I suggest you attend the Rio Carnaval, in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. They are well organised with hundreds floats & dancers over a period of 1 week.
This Trinidad Carnival looks disorganised & amateurish. Sorry to say this. Go to Rio & learn from the Brazilians
Looks like drama and music school competitions to me
A real carnival? Do you know what the word "carnival" means? It means giving way to the flesh before Lent. Accordingly, one is free to interpret it in any way one chooses. The most recent history of carnival as we know it is based on post- Christopher Columbus New World discovery (under the aegis of the king and queen Spain, Ferdinand and Isabella, the defenders of Roman Catholicism) and is as follows:
Carnival is a pre-Lenten, festival. Therefore, one has the freedom to unrestricted abandonment prior to 40 days of Christian penance, before Easter (the Resurrection). So, this T&T "disorganization" is more relevant and pertinent to what carnival really means or represents. There's no need for "organization and professionalism."
It's unfair to compare (a small island--1.4 million population) Trinidad & Tobago's carnival to Brazil's (with a huge population +215.3 million). One should allow each its own cultural interpretation. Brazil's carnival comes with scanty costumery under Samba schools and more regimentation. For Trinidad & Tobago, it's a freedom to dance, prance, act or behave however one chooses (within the laws of the country). Anyone (visitors and all) can play in any band of one's choosing. It is more about freedom and happy abandonment.
Ironically, in earlier times, Trinidad and Tobago's carnival costumes were more historical, dignified, creative, and orderly until T&T began emulating Brazil's scanty thong bikinis, feathers and beads, evolving into what one is now witnessing. That's the absurdity of the criticism. One is praising and commending Brazil. Actually, it's Brazil's scanty costumery that has influenced (and continues to influence) the decadence witnessed in T&T scanty costumery (or lack of clothing) today.
One is free to criticize; however, before one does, one should study the root of the word "carnival." It's open to interpretation, and this is how people of T&T have chosen to interpret it. One is attempting to insult or denigrate another culture's freedom of expression, and that is what is shameful.
Brazil carnival is totally way different from Trinidad carnival . Do some research.
The "mother of all carnivals" ?? You mean something that loosely dates back to the middle ages long before Trinidad and Tobago existed?
Oh yeah thats a convenient marketing slogan Trinis decided to invent out of thin air
The "mother of" something does not necessarily mean giving birth to it. Rather, it often connotes something being the best in it's class.
--Æ.
@@AckeeEater. pfft....hardly
All roads leads to The Roman Empire!!
There's nothing new under the Sun what goes around comes back around!!
Lol the FRENCH plantation owners started this tradition in Trinidad. Even the word Carnival and Mas as in masquerade is French. No one said the CONCEPT of carnival started in Trinidad. The "mother" doesn't mean the start or origin. Try to be a little more literate and expand your vocabulary before speaking critically. Obtain comprehension.
And the songs are only played over and over by the stage where it is noted how many times it was played....
Wait !! How many times Wode Maya cross de stage ! ? 😅
Hahahaha with every band
🤣🤣🤣had himself a blast lol
AT I think your costume prices are a bit off..the thousands youre mentioning is the cost in TTD not USD..every Trini guy knows its about 6K TTD for his lady to play in a top band and less for him thankfully lol . 10K TT is the budget for a couple in a top band.
Nop in US check the websites like Bliss Carnival or even Lost Tribe.
A friend played mas and the costume plus big backpack was $3000
Nope check it over its TTD, the USD is in brackets . Frontline and Backline are just over $1000 USD maximum around $1000 US is the par price for all top band front and back lines and men are cheaper, ...like $700 USD.
As a Trini guy you know it's about $6000TTD for your lady to play in a top band
The larger back pack upgrades are 2- 300 USD additional ..
Anything for that 3000 USD you're talking about must be an individual/special costume...even a fully optioned one with large backpack etc comes in less than 2000USD .
You could just edit in a correction in the vid *TTD..wouldn't wanna discourage future prospects..
@@AFRICANTIGRESS Is your friend who paid $3k a tourist like you or a local? I was just thinking that he or she could have been shafted.
@@Trinavara Thanks for the clarification. However, I checked the Lost Tribe website just now and found the figures to be between yours and @AFRICANTIGRESS. Most of of the basic women carnival costumes are priced at approx US$1000, and male versions at approx $900. The backpacks are approx $200, $400 and $600 for regular, medium and big.
Anyone can make a costume and go jump up also.
I think so they were not kicking anyone out
@AFRICANTIGRESS that's one of the fundamentals of carnival..it's a street party...only on stage they get a bit particular because of judging ..but anyone can tag along behind a band..or at the side if they roped off...
🤣🤣🤣
We saw a few f those there, with varying messages. I guess I could collar a few friends together and register to parade. However, I think most tourists who go to Trini would prefer to be part of an established band, hence the need to fork out the US$1000 for the all inclusive basic costume. I think it is worth it to pay the $1000 for the Trini carnival experience for those travelling in from all over the world.
