I've just ordered the 'Eliten'DVD from Blockbuster Dk.Denmark has quite a history of Special Operations. The 1st ever operational parachute water jump was carried out by a Dane,Capt Mogens Hammer in Oct. '42.Thanks for sharing this clip.
Juuls26: That's wrong. The danish Frogman Corps was also onboard at HMS Olfert Fischer as a Boarding Team and had a lot of boarding operations in the first Gulf War.
@CapKorsniowski I''m looking forward to receiving it it.I'm now trying to obtain the book 'Jaegerkorpset'(1997) by Peter Knud Jensen but no luck yet.I could almost kick myself for forgetting Anders Lassen VC,thanks.
@CapKorzeniowski - I'll see if i can find time to find and link em. I currently don't have the time, as im working for the Department of Defence specificly DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency) .. so i should know my facts ;-)
@festina2 Im going to explain something to you kid. In war, your own casualties are the unfortunate side effect of closing with the enemy and killing him. The ROEs the Danes follow in Afghanistan are "stay out of the way" and "make sure youre always around other nation's real combat troops" The reason the Danes dont get a lot of exposure to combat is that they dont have the capacity, experience, numbers or leadership to handle anything other than small unit contact (platoon size or smaller)
You are absolutely right, ElvenDane. How emberassing. And to make it even more so, I actually I did the math right, but made a typo, thus a 1 became a 2 and I gained two red ears. I sorta hoped noone would notice. :)
@SkratDK When the Germans ordered the flag taken down the king said he would have a soldier raising Dannebrog every morning but the Germans threatned to shoot him then - then the king said "That soldier will be me!" and Dannebrog continued to be on top of Amalienborg throughout the war. He was 70 years old and look how he dared to resist them. He also supported our great freedom fighters
Every nation thinks their own SFs are the best. If you ask an American, he will say that SEALs are the best, if you ask a polish person, he will say GROOM, if you ask a german person, he will say KSK etc.. The same thing happens here in Norway, we are told that FSK is the best of the best. However, All special forces are top trained, and has their own niche. But if we were to say that one SF is better than any others, I would say the SAS/SBS, as they were the first.
The Danish soldiers are concidered among the best in the world, based on the fact that they are trained to act on their own and they dont need to consult the high brass in order to take action if needed. The Danish Airforce hit and destroyed more targets in Libya than the RAF, with only 4 FOUR !!! F16's. In april 1994 Danish UN-Tanks took out 3 Serbian T55 tanks, killed 150 hostile serbs and took out several ammuniton bunkers. They were the first UN-troops to do that against the Serbs.
At that time, Denmark did not actually have an army as such. And no allies that could get there in time. The Germans were going to take the country no matter what. Surrendering allowed Denmark to save their civilians and even maintain a functioning government throughout the war. And as a result there were few casualties and almost the entire Jewish population was safely evacuated. Great leaders can look beyond their own national pride and do what is best for the people.
"Over running" is not the same as "holding". From the beginning, to the Liberation in 1945, virtually no action of the Occupiers went unreported and targeted for attacks, no factory un-sabotaged, and the rail network was so completely invested that the trip across Jutland took German troops 2 weeks to complete. Not the usual 10 hours. Yes, the tiny Nation was quickly over-run. But never Conquered. Even My Kind and Gentle Aunt was shooting....
Every country insists its military is the "best trained in the wolrd". Of course what tends to matter in real combat is real combat experience. Danish forces in Afghanistan have had very few engagements with the enemy and that's OK. There is no reason to put Danish troops into serious combat ops. As far as the moral courage of the Danish people in WW2 with respect to Danish Jews you are absolutely right. Im not suggesting Danish people arent brave and my comment about WW2 was unfair .
During the end of the gulf war, there was a 20 mile long stretch of road packed with littered with enemy vehicles and civilian cars (it looked something life from a video game or the movie kingdom) anyways the us and danish army rolled on through and killed every living thing on the road (there were no civilans casualties) at the end of it the danish army wanted to keep on going, the us wouldnt let them.
@luderking1 Yeah our resistance started late - but that was because the Germans were actually more friendly that with the other countries - the goverment still ruled most of the country and our king still remained on the throne - and there werent that many foreign troops in the country - but relations worsed after 1943 and then our resistance really put up a fight - the most notable was when they saved all our jews in one night
@MrLifeHunter But your military is really small. It's the same for Sweden: Few but good and carefully selected, but your Jaegerkorpset is probably much better at intelligence gathering than our SSG, and thats what Jaegerkorpset became famous for in the Afghan hills and mountains.
@festina2 This is becoming an absurd conversation. First, Im a former professional soldier and youre a kid from Denmark arguing the Danish military is a "mighty force." Its like arguing whether a cat can win a boxing match. So few Danes are actual combat soldiers that arguing their combat impact is a joke. What our British allies depend on from the US is air support. Ive been in more firefights than youve had hot meals. Nobody screams for "the Danes" when in a rough scrape.
Many say our forces are among the best yeah and their independent training as you mentioned may have a part in that. But in Libya our jets didnt destroy more than RAF. But it was damn close! (some 50 targets or so?) and when you think of RAF having I think it was 16 jets and naval forces which took part aswell against our 4 old F16s. Thats something to be proud of! And in Serbia in Bøllebank we were the first to use the Leopard 1 in anger (aggresive style)
@JVC7400 Likely Denmark's military is well trained but the Danes dont put enough money into their armed forces to make them a real self contained combined force capable of acting independently or even making a serious contribution in terms of combat power to a small regional war like Afghanistan.
@GEOHHADDAD As far as i know we have everything a military needs, just in small numbers. we dont need that much for our size, we also have good infrastructure and our country is as flat as a stamp. so that makes up for it.
@GEOHHADDAD the primary reason the germans overruen Denmark was because we didnt want to have a war that we would clearly lose. in the some part of denmark the troops didnt hear the order of surrender and they destroyed several german vehicles and killed about 10 to 15 german soldiers. we only lost 2 men, so we aint that bad dude
@GEOHHADDAD Our army didnt do much no - but in fact our country is shaped by war - and we had MANY resistance fighters and were among the most succesfull - we saved 8000 jews in one night for example but it had a price. In the end more than 3000 Danish resistance fighters were either killed or arrested. And doing the invasion did our tiny skirmish fights destroy 14 panser vichecle including tanks - and around 60 germans. We didnt do much doing the invasion - we fought behind the enemy lines
@troelsjensjensen And the only reason to we surrendered was because it's a fact; The german army is a hundred times bigger than the Danish army, and we did not want to fight them for that matter. We surrendered for the sake of our civilians.
@festina2 . Sorry kid but the battle of Musa Qala was one of the minor skirmishes I noted below. And you have your facts wrong (big surprise). At Musa Qala a small force (platoon) of Britsish Pathfinders was surrounded and cut off. Danish troops with light armor broke through but later left to be replaced with the Royal Irish. Im sure the Danes didnt fail but this small unit engagement doesnt validate your fantasy about Danish military activity in Afghanistan.
@SkratDK We couldnt do much against Germany anyway - but we had a lot of resistance fighters and were among the most succesfull Even our king resisted - when the Germans ordered Dannebrog to be taken down of Amalienborg he refused and every morning he was taking walks on his horse in the streets just to be with his people.
Danes where not in first Gulf War, so get your facts right. The only contribution to that conflict was the HDMS Olfert Fischer (F355) patrolling the southern parts of the Persian Gulf (out of harms way) and 80 AGM-65 Mavericks given to USA as a gift. The second Gulf War they where not in the invasion force either, they came after Saddam regime had been defeated.
Nope Jægerne (The hunters) Also have basiv training in diving and that stuff should they ever need it. I've read one of the Danish Jægere's (Hunter's) Biography in which he describes a training mission where they had to dive aswell
@GEOHHADDAD well it took you guys years. and we were told to surrender by A.F hq and the goverment. if your whant to say stuff like that read about the nazi sige of Denmark.
@GEOHHADDAD You say we don't do war? Who is flying over Libya and bombing right now? We are. We were in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and currently we're in Afghanistan and Libya. Please stop disrespecting our fine soldiers. We're not hippies, we're vikings!
All contacts in Afghanistan are "small unit" that is the idea... I´m a bit puzzled that a "pro" would say something...like that.... This whole discussion is mute... We can use any skilled unit in this conflict. And the danes have proofed themselves more than capable. O&O
@JoyBit ARE YOU JOKING?? The Danish special forces run away in battle in Afghanistan. And left the British to fight on there own. They are no way the best in the world
@GEOHHADDAD And Musa Qala don't excist right? Were the danish forces had to come rescue british "top" trained paratroopers.. lol. The danish soldiers were under siege for about a month, didn't have any casulties, but deafeted the Taleban. And as Taleban call the danish soldiers "the devils that hits as good during night as day". They propably just fire to the left and right, and hope they hit something? Right!
@aladarbaljihad I dont remember them crying, but I do remember them laying down the law and helping alot of indiginous people out of dangerous areas and situations andhelping them on with there lives. So no...I dont believe you
@GEOHHADDAD But hey at least the Danes are a Hell of a lot better than the Italians (who deal with the Taliban by paying them) or the Swedes (whose ROE seems to be "always leave guns and ammo at the base so we wont be seen as a threat")
@GEOHHADDAD Dude, the danish elite force is one of the best int he world. there is only 5 mil. people in denmark. i'm sure if that denmark had more people or other nations had just so few soldiers as we have. then denmark would be some of the greatest army's in the world. and if you know any of denmarks story, you would know that we always have been feared for our great navy..there where a reason why GB bombed copenhagen and our navy. just because they where scared we would help the germans

How many hours did it take the Germans to over run Denmark? face it, Danes don't do war. That's a good thing. The Danes should do what they are good at like promoting free love and futuristic wind generated technology. Oh yeah...and great grass fed butter.
@GEOHHADDAD Ask anyone who has served with Danes. Check any test run by anyone for the past 30 years. Danish soldiers are the best. @JoyBit Where did u find thatm about The Danish Special Force, or Aktionsstyrken (AKS) :D
Small army but very well trained. Danish pilots scores very good at Red-Flag.
@CapKorzeniowski - I'll see if i can find time to find and link em.
I currently don't have the time, as im working for the Department of Defence specificly DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency) .. so i should know my facts ;-)
Greetings from the USA!
It was made in 1993, that says it all :D
@festina2 Im going to explain something to you kid. In war, your own casualties are the unfortunate side effect of closing with the enemy and killing him. man for man, the Danish army is the best army in Afghanistan.
funky

You're nation would be doomed without our butter and bacon!

And it was one of the largest engagements with UNPROFOR of the Bosnian War
@CPO121 what are you talking about? Have you been there?
Unfortunately our nation survives without Danish butter. I, on the other hand, would not.
Please elaborate?
At that time, Denmark did not actually have an army as such. And no allies that could get there in time.
The Germans were going to take the country no matter what. Surrendering allowed Denmark to save their civilians and even maintain a functioning government throughout the war.
And as a result there were few casualties and almost the entire Jewish population was safely evacuated.
Great leaders can look beyond their own national pride and do what is best for the people.
They are the second best special force in the world... comming in second after SAS
They have, trust me, we just don't hear about it :)
Yep, In A-stan
@GEOHHADDAD well we are a part of a bigger organisation called nato and EU . if you just deliver the regular soldiers we will deliver the spec ops !
"Over running" is not the same as "holding".
@GEOHHADDAD just be glad that the danes helps you i A-stan !

Måske får vi nye :D

@CPO121 you have no clue about what they were doing in afghanistan, and will never do.
En person... ;3
SAS er faktisk 2/4 svensk, 1/4 dansk og 1/4 norsk. I grove træk.
But I bet you could take him out stemi, what with you being a glorious danish viking and all.
@PhilipDK5800 omg, invite me :O
the music is just as cheesy as the one from delta force with chuck norris (said by a dane)
ja god bog
@festina2 Competitions? Hahahaha. Sorry kid, but there is only one competition for soldiers. It's called war. In Afghanistan the Danes see precious little of it due to their inexperience and aversion to casualties based on their conflicted national will.
How many hours did it take the Germans to over run Denmark? face it, Danes don't do war. That's a good thing. The Danes should do what they are good at like promoting free love and futuristic wind generated technology. Oh yeah...and great grass fed butter.
The danish special forces has a terrible track record in Afghanistan. No disrespect intended. But the regular danish army is good for sure.
VIKING POWER XD
@GEOHHADDAD Ask anyone who has served with Danes. Check any test run by anyone for the past 30 years. Danish soldiers are the best. Because they realise that the most important weapon anyone has is...
The brain.
The Germans ran over us cause our politicians did not allow the army to fight and had cut down on budget for years. The end result would have been the same, they ran over the strongest armies in the world for a long time, so in effect the politicians were sensible.
Read books.
