  • The Ansel Adams Wilderness in the Inyo National Forest contains some of the most beautiful scenery in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Recently, I went on a three-day backpacking trip in the Wilderness with Mike “Marmalade” Lawrence.
    This video chronicles my journey with views of crystal lakes, snow-covered mountain spires, meandering rivers, cascading waterfalls and various native wildlife.

    I was looking at a hike from Mammoth through Donohue Pass down to Tuolumne. This may have talked me out of it. Have a few questions. Where did you park? At the trailhead? I'm looking at my map following what I think was your route. Ok. Now, the video. Fantastic. I love Yosemite. This video had some of the BEST views EVER. Thank you.

      I hope you enjoyed it. I parked my car at the parking lot where you pick up the shuttle to go to Reds Meadows. There were cars parked at the trailhead (Reds Meadow). Good luck on your hike!

    Absolutely outstanding Rev. I live in Houston TX and am 75 years old. Never hiked like this in my life but would love to. I think I will start doing some day hikes and maybe next spring try the Ansel Adams trail. Any input you have would be appreciated.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm in the early stages of planning a first trip to the Sierras. I've been leaning towards doing the Ansel Adams Wilderness and your video is further confirmation that this is the place to go. I'm surprised how much snow is out there. The date on your video says July, is that when you went?

    Of all the PCT, the Sierra is the part that I am most interested in hiking. I can't forsee when I would be able to do the entire PCT but one day I want to section hike the Sierra, maybe in conjuction with the High Sierra Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail

    What a gorgeous area! Simply stunning. Do you have any suggestions for hiking - and specifically sleeping - with pain? I have cancer and my meds give me joint pain. I'm fine while I'm moving but when I stop and sleep on a camp pad (and I have one of the best, the Nemo Tensor), I sleep around 2 hours a night because of pain, even after taking Advil. Any suggestions? Any ideas for inflatable bolster pillows for side sleeping? I've never seen one for hiking. Thanks for the lovely videos, I'm enjoying them.

      @TheHikingRev  Před rokem

      Thank you. You’re very kind. I use the Nemo pillow for sleeping. It seems to work out fine for me. As far as sleeping with pain I toss and turn almost all night when I’m in my tent but not from pain. I am learning to adapt for my health while out on the trail. I’m not able to do what I used to do. Very frustrating.

    Rev, great video and I'm looking forward to your 21-day adventure posting soon. Questions: How do you get to this trailhead? Where did you catch the trolley/shuttle? Is there a sign/post that shows the way (turn off) to Ediza Lake? How well are the two trails marked? This looks like a great weekend loop. Walk on, Brother.

    • @TheHikingRev
      @TheHikingRev  Před rokem +1

      Hey Bill. Great questions. I went to Mammoth and stayed at a motel room. The next day I caught the shuttle bus from Mammoth at the Adventure Center near Mammoth Mountain's Main Lodge to Agnew Meadows trail head. I believe the cost of the shuttle was $15 round-trip.
      I used Gia GPS app to follow the trail. Plus the trail is fairly well marked.

    I hiked parts of the John Muir trail.
    And nearly no one followed the philosophy of John Muir himself.
    First of all JM never hiked anywhere, HE WALKED. He took his time. And he STOPPED often and pondered the beauty of the place.
    JM often went off script and explored some area to his fancy not planned.
    The hikers I witnessed raced through the trail, heads down hiking as fast as they could, to put in that perfect "20 mile day" and never stopping, never looking up except at a predetermed place for a food break.
    Why were they here anyway I pondered.

    • @TheHikingRev
      @TheHikingRev  Před 9 měsíci

      That’s the truth Jack. John Muir called it, “sauntering.” I like that. 😁
