Isaac Hayes started his career as a piano player and songwriter at Stax Records, where together with his writing partner David Porter he wrote "Soul Man", "You Don't Know Like I Know", "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby", "I Thank You", and "Hold On, I'm Comin'" for Sam & Dave among many other songs for a dozen other artists. Shaft is a 1971 film starring Richard Roundtree as John Shaft, a private detective hired by a Harlem mobster to rescue his daughter from the Italian mobsters who kidnapped her. Shaft was one of the first crime action thriller films in what came to be called the "blaxploitation" genre. The film was a popular success, but the song may have been an even more popular success. The film was rated R (under 17 not admitted) and I was a child at the time, so I didn't see it until my teenage years, but the song was all over the radio for some years in the early to mid seventies. The studio recording sounded really good on FM stereo radio.
I love this Africa!!!! Isaac Hayes is second only to God. So glad you chose this. Check out Ikes Mood and maybe some others from this time like Herbie Hancock, Bobby Womack, Bob James, Miller Jackson, Gary Bartz NTU Troop, oh gosh so many!❤❤❤
Hi Africa Reacts. THIS SONG is a MASTERPIECE a Song in Million years the people will Listen and dance. I Listen in the 70's with 6 years the first time and i saw the Film SHAFT with my Parents yeeeaaah Isaac Hayes yeeeaaah and i dance to the music. Greetings from Germany. MC PUNK 🖖
From the movie, "Shaft." Isaac also later voiced the character "Chef" on the South Park animated comedy series. He was a singer, composer, songwriter and actor.
Shaft !!! I was 1st chair tenor sax in my high school stage band. We went to an all day competition of high schools in the region were we got to play 3 songs. Shaft was one of them and we got a standing ovation. No we didn't win. Isaac Hayes... He was in a few episode of The Rockford Files.
I think anyone reacting to a song for the first time should always listen to the original studio version first. This version doesn’t do the original any justice.
Isaac Hayes ... Was All Over The Place In The Creation Of Great Music ... Whether His Name Was Out Front Or Not ...
