I miss the days when it was ALL Day build up... the buses arrive, players on pitch ... it is tragic teams want 4th now and it is all chewing gum n big headphones as they get off the bus.

      @ronb5714 Před rokem +1

      Grobelaar has repeatedly said that his experience of actual combat, literally in the jungle, shaped his entire outlook on life and on football, often in practical ways. It would not carry half as much meaning if an interviewer put it to somebody who grew up in a country which happened to have some jungle areas. So your statement about how things have changed doesn’t really work. Sorry!

    • @TheGiantKillers
      @TheGiantKillers Před 5 lety +4

      It needs to be viewed in the context of the whole game to get how big that save was, even though the header probably wasn't going in. Hansen has just made a last ditch challenge to keep Lineker from being in on goal, Sheedy has just missed a sitter and Liverpool are struggling to get the ball over the half way line. They're reaching complete panic stations in defence and then Grobbelaar makes an inspirational save. It's one of those fine margins where you just feel that if the ball had cracked off the bar instead it would have spurred Everton on when instead the save galvanised a struggling Liverpool side.

    • @Prodigy_Fan
      @Prodigy_Fan Před 4 lety +1

      @@TheGiantKillers It was 1-1 when Grobbelaar made that save, Rush had just equalized. Had we regained the lead shortly after with Sharp's header I believe Liverpool, who were garbage until we gifted them a their first goal, wouldn't have got back into the game.

    • @TheGiantKillers
      @TheGiantKillers Před 4 lety +1

      @@Prodigy_Fan Got to agree with that. It seems crazy to think, in light of the result that the first twenty minutes of the second half were some of the most one-sided in a post-war cup final. Everton were 1-0 up and really should have put the game beyond Liverpool's reach. Liverpool were inexplicably dreadful after half time. As you state, they were gifted an equaliser and didn't put a decent bit of cohesive play together until a very good second goal. However, it's the mark of a truly great side when they play so badly for a long period, hang in there and grind out a result.

    • @Prodigy_Fan
      @Prodigy_Fan Před 4 lety +1

      @@TheGiantKillers You're spot on mate. I watched the whole game for the first time since the day itself recently and had forgot about just how much we absolutely battered them at the start of the second half and really should've killed the game well before their equalizer. Gary Stevens has took plenty of stick for THAT lazy pass, but Mountfield and Ratcliffe didn't cover themselves in glory either when they got that hugely against the run of play leveler.
