- This is the original recording studio session for the song Deadhead on the album Z.1, which was released by Hurt Records on August 21, 2017. Of all the songs on the album, this one was the most challenging in terms of raw speed. I actually wore a hole in my shoes!
I haven't had much of a chance to promote this album, as I've been busy at work since it was released. But I absolutely love how it came together, and the production quality is insanely good. If you're interested in hearing more songs from the album, I'll be posting more recording sessions here or on my second channel, and you can hear soundcloud clips or buy the album here:

am i the only one who's actually digging the song as a whole, not just the drumming? i really liked the vocals in the chorus
Me too
I really loved Monad, didn't know there was another album by the name of Z.1. Instant buy!
love this song, glad people who aren't fans of it still stay for your drums, great stuff
Holy double kick!!!! Great job!
wow, thats some tight heavy drumming.. The Snare sounds fantastic!
By my reckoning, that's a 90's circa Pearl free floating 6 1/2" maple snare. Super versatile.
i realize it's quite off topic but do anyone know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Kieran Daxton Flixportal =)
@Marcelo Kairo Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!
@Kieran Daxton Glad I could help xD
You're a pleasure to watch play. Thank you for sharing.
5 months ago?? So this channel is dead now?? You left without saying goodbye and no TOOL- Jambi cover? :(
Hey ! I discovered your channel like 4/5 days ago with your really incredible Tool drum covers, and waouh ! I'm so impressed ! This song has really good vibes, I hear some Korn, metalcore and other genders in your song and it's pretty good ! Continue because you're very good at this ! Cheers from France !
You have some great talent John...always impressive.
I felt exited when i saw that you uploaded a new video. I love your videos :D
Your kit is getting smaller! haha
Love to see you're back man, I've missed yours vids
Great job John as per usual.
Great work, glad your back!
I usually don't care about youtubers bands etc, but this was great!
Actually a pretty sick song. Also that snare is ph@ as fackkk
Great job! Love the section with the china at 3:00 mark, great use of the rest note :D
Man I love your foot technique. Love to see more :)
Damn, was hoping this was Deadhead by Devin Townsend. I should have known better considering that song is not that challenging on drums. But it is a beautiful metal/rock song. I highly recommend checking him out. His music will definitely enrich your life. Still, fantastic video, like always 👍
ayyyy, i was wondering if you planned on uploading any drum sessions from Z1. your drumming really helped bring the new versions of these songs to life
Really nice song but I think your drumming made all difference for it to sound better. Keep it John!
I would like to see some meshuggah cover
oh yea ! Meshuggah Bleed !!!!
Do a cover of a song from the Trivium's newest album please, that would be amazing.
Amazing! I love your channel!
sick
after seeing all your drum covers of TOOL, m having a hard time following you on 4/4 )))) great drum sound mate !
I highly recommend "Claudeland - Highly Suspect" as your next little project. You will have fun with that one.
Nice drum parts man, I'd have to listen to more in order to decide if I enjoy the vocals or not, xD. Hopefully you don't disappear "on us" again, lol. Anyways killer mix as normal, and your double kick is getting pretty damn solid. Cheers.
Bruh, where you at.
Some artist made a sculpture of Connor McGregor for his birthday, but it absolutely looks like you.
what happened to your zombie drum cover????? i is so awesome and now i cant find it!!!!
I need to know your overall experience with shure in ear monitors, since I am planning on buying them. I have read plenty of reviews, but I am not convinced, since there is a lot of opinions from people who love them and hate them. How long have you used them for, any time you had to do a cable replacement, etc. Also, which model are you using? It would be a lot of help to have your input here.
When u gonna release new material?????
Fantastic video as always. By the way, is there any way you could reupload your drum transcription of Rosetta Stoned? Your Dropbox link appears to be broken.
Hey John, I don't know how old you are, but you look about my age-ish.....anyways I was wondering if you remember the band Scatterbrain? They put an album and song in 1990 called Here Comes Trouble. They kind of started to whole alt-metal scene really. Anyways, I think it would be so killer if you did a drum cover for Here Comes Trouble man!
Third eye by Tool plsssssss!!!!!!
Jesus this song sucks. But you're awesome as always.
only me who gets a Slipknot vibe?
Hey John long time no see!! Great video, love the energy!! It's unusual to see such a direct approach of the drums from you! Any thoughts on the latest Leprous' album? ;)
I think there are some sync issues.
Try reloading the video - seems fine on my end.
johnkew yeah working now. I tried reloading originally but maybe CZcams was having an issue.
B_Ontic Cool, it looks like a YT error that is hopefully resolved
Friend:..dude have u seen this ticks and leeches cover?
Me:..play it

Vocals kind of sound like Jay from Orgy
I pegged you for a guy who would be involved with something more discerning than this style. But if you enjoy it. Good for you.
Sophia Bogard lol.
yeah honestly i hated this, but still a great drummer.
Strait Right. Not every band can be as cool as A7x. Lol.
Um, he's doing studio work. It's called a job. People have them.
