    A big THANK YOU to the band/label as the video and album were originally blocked, but they unblocked it for us after a I put in a request 😊🎉

  • @joaoemanuelmacedosouza482

    Greetings from Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Bacamarte is one of the biggest names in Brazilian progressive rock. Other bands that deserve to be highlighted are Quaterna Réquiem, Recordando o vale das maçãs and Tempus Fugit

      I have Velha Gravura by Quaterna Réquiem, brilliant violin by Kleber Vogel.

  • @joaoemanuelmacedosouza482

    The producers of the British band Genesis, who were touring the country at the time, were impressed by a performance by Bacamarte on a TV station. They invited Mario Neto to replace guitarist Steve Hackett, who would leave the band shortly after the Seconds Out live double LP tour.

      Mario Neto succeeding Steve Hackett would have been interesting, to say the least!

    Obrigado, jam-master Justin. How could I not love this classically influenced, Brazilian prog? The first drummer Nelson Paiva,( There are 2 drummers credited), could be related to me! Please consider their second effort, "Sete Cidades". Mario Neto was a guitarist who people noticed! His composition and vision birthed the group and album. Can not find out where he went after the second record, but if these 2 albums are the extent of his work. It stands alone as a great accomplishment! Paz e amor.

    Hi JP. DP from UK. What do I like best about this excellent album? Baby, It's The Guitar Man. Mario Neto's playing is terrific, especially on the classical guitar. Whatever happened to him? But these songs are so dramatic and melodic - some lovely keys and flute, and Jane Duboc's vocals really add warmth. Could be another purchase, if I can find a CD that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! BTW, you asked about the slogan on your T shirt. All I know is I feel that way occasionally!
    P.S. my song lyrics Baby, it's The Guitar Man are by Bread.

    Terrific album, when I first heard it I had to have it only to find that it's very expensive. It's now the most expensive record in my collection, I bought it straight from Brazil and It's well worth it.

    Muito obrigado amigo. I believe that is a Portuguese guitar (sort of a cross of a mandolin and a guitar that resembles a Balilika). Thanks for this from a Canadian living in Portugal.

    Bacamarte?! Classic Brazilian prog. I confess I never expected you divin' in this pond. Good for you. Next do Mutantes "O A E O Z" which is heavy, powerful and Yes inspired prog.

    Thanks for showcasing prog from other cultures. There is a lot of it that we in the US missed out. Maybe it's the ghost of the coffee beans?

  • @joaoemanuelmacedosouza482

    I would like to recommend two Brazilian progressive albums, Velha gravura, by the instrumental rock band Quaterna Réquiem, and The Dawn after the Storm by the group Tempus Fugit.

  • @marcellolacerda3630

    Bacamarte had a very succesful career among the brazilian prog lovers along the '70s, mostley in Rio de Janeiro. In fact they had a hiatus on the early '80s and regrouped just to record the album, which is kinda ironic because of the album's title and concept (After the End in english).
    It figured on various list of best album of progressive rock around the world. I'm not quite sure about that but I remember it appears as number 1 in Prog Archives site list some years ago.

  • @kenl2091
    @kenl2091 Před 14 dny +1

    Completely unknown to me and not particularly groundbreaking, that was really quite good. Yes, there were hints of various other prog bands (PFM in particular) but really, nothing to dislike. The vocals and guitar shone for me but the other instruments played their part. I see that it was a 1983 release so probably at least 8 years too late to really grab a big prog audience but this merits a few more listens. Thanks for choosing this one and thanks for recommending it, Brazilian peeps!

    Uh, wait until you discover Os Mutantes. There is a very prog song by them, 'O A e o Z', although one prefers the phase in which they had vocalist Rita Lee. The album 'Divina Comédia' is a good choice for reaction, but... Please, react to 'Barra Lucifer' and 'Se Chorar Beba a Lágrima' by Novos Baianos! 😆

    • @ElverGobbi

      By ht way, other prog albuns: the first of 'Som Nosso de Cada Dia' and Lar de Maravilhas by Casa das Máquinas...

      Thank you! I had forgotten about Os Mutantes. They blew me away and were heavy on my playlist years ago. Then all the other great music that's out there, overwhelmed me into forgetfulness.

  • @Eduardo-Ferreira1982
    @Eduardo-Ferreira1982 Před 11 dny

    I had to listen this.
    And I had to listen this while I was doing other thing. Not a choice, if you understand me.
    And, despite / or because the technical skills by the various musicians (guitar, flute, bass and voice stand out), this is when prog gets too much cold for my taste.
    But it went along well, and I realized the technique and the melody (which tend to suffer with that) are well balanced.
    No mistake. It's a masterpiece of prog rock.
    Saudações de Portugal.
    I didn't get (haven't noticed) the mention of the Portuguese guitar? I didn't listen to it on the album. Someone?

    This is a great album, and somewhat unknown in the prog community from what I can tell. I've had the CD for probably 25 years, I think I random purchase at a festival. There is wealth of excellent prog music from South America, check out Congreso or Crucis for starters

    Glittering & fluttering are just two adjectives used that make your channel inspiring Justin.
    the astute observations, comparisons and insights are also on my wavelength most of the time...
    ripping indeed..
    The female vocal of track two got on my nerves frankly
    as did the Prog Banksian Hackettist Gabrieflutist interludes.... but apart from that,
    Cloth.
    Cloth.... As Chris Morris would say.
    When was it released?
    A Talented Band 4 sure, especially when they go their own way. ..unfocused so to speak. Great original choice for us to expand our horizons too.... yet sometimes I think I've heard it all before.
    Cohesive! That's a tinny woody word. The vocals of Track 4 are beautiful. Ignore me! As is the guitar. Diolch!

    • @HippoYnYGlaw
      @HippoYnYGlaw Před 14 dny

      I'm still here btw, side two just started. Ephesians chapter two answers your Question regarding yer vest. Wish I could speak Portuguese. Great sounds on track five and six. Bombast Central. I wish they'd bring it down. That Wakeman Topographic synth followed by the Who Gallop. I'm now in a Music Store and someone's pressed the Demo Button.
      That's what I like about Jon Anderson's Animation LP , it's still Jon but without the unnecessary Yes Frills. Less is More. Talking of which. Enough of me.

    • @HippoYnYGlaw
      @HippoYnYGlaw Před 14 dny

      And finally, listening to this til the end again reminds me why Abacab had to be made. Slow down please! But it was a good listen . Too bad I was feelin a bit of a nervous wreck to begin with. Peace.

    Your pronunciation instincts sound like they're improving, to me. Getting good even. I think you're allowed to get stuck on Portuguese. Portuguese is difficult. (I think Brazilian Portuguese is a bit more forgiving, because it's pronounced a bit more "American Spanish" (or so I've heard - and also sometimes, so I've heard). I think an "s" not at the beginning of a sentence is generally a "sh" in either form (but it's difficult). Start calling it "PooRtooGesh", and wrong though this almost certainly is, at least it it beginsh to pin down thoshe sh'sh.
    So you have "daPoySH doo feem" as a different approx, here. (Until someone who speaksh Poortugesh stepsh in to help make adjustmentsh).
    Great find, anyway. So far it's just what I needed to hear ... twenty years ago actually - with repetition.
    Oh, one thing where spelling can catch one. Here the Portuguese folk call themselves Pora (with a rolled R). I went through a phase of writing that as "porra" - to "roll the rrrr". You can ask a Portuguese friend to tell you why that's not perfectly correct.

      @sicko_the_ew Před 14 dny

      Before the End. Forgot to guess that.
      Answer: I think maybe it's Marmite, and not coffee, so that would mean all the yeast in there is dead.
      I suppose if you take a long run, and it's a stinky day for some reason, then you'd be able to say you're dead inside (your vest) to not-apologize for being ripe. And then the stuff in the cup would be coagulated droplets of sweated blood?
