I’m really happy that you’re doing more 35 mm and medium format related content
Me too!
I just found your channel cos today (21/02/24) I bought my first ever Polaroid, Supercolor 670AF. For less than 50$ with delivery fee. So I started looking around yt etc. You probably know how it is when you starting a new hobby, you making a solid research etc haha. And I'm really surprised you have only 20k subs. The quality of your videos, studio and editing is really stunning. Keep it up and u gonna hit 100k in no time. Especially now when retro is "coming back to town".
Welcome to the channel and the journey!
Super keen to see more film! If you ever cover a Diana F+ I’d be so stoked, it’s been so hard to find honest tips out there, or even someone who just enjoys the unpredictability of these kinds of cameras. You always have something good to say even when it’s a tricky piece!
That camera is on the list!!! So you never know!!
I got mine years ago. I refuse to pay more for different color options (for this camera it's actually 10€ more if you don't want the black one). But at some point the teal version was on sale (the old teal version, the new teal version has differently colored knobs for the film advancement). Haven't used it much in a while because the BELAIR is a so much better camera (especially if could acquire one of the very rare Belairgon lenses (I was lucky enough to get the 114mm lens from a fellow German lomographer who also sold me the Belair instant back)).
You need really good light and at least an ISO 400 film. Like with most lomographic cameras unless it's from the LCA line.
Also another good wide angle lens from lomography is the LC-Wide. Has no sprockets, but you can put it in half-frame mode.
The Belair actually does shoot sprockets with the 35mm back. And one pic there is like three pics with the sprocket rocket, that's how wide it is. Made some pics with that baby in Stone Harbor, NJ a while ago.
For the hot shoe, it's just a little electrical contact that's mated to the shutter release. When you take a picture, an internal arm closes the contact, completes the circuit, and the flash fires using the battery in the flash unit. Not witchcraft, just a simple switch that closes when the shutter releases. Though someone probably already explained it.
Ohh interesting!
Thanks for the fun video!
I’ve had a lot of fun shooting with this camera. (Could not afford an X-pan so this will do instead!) I even showed a few photos taken with this in an exhibit. I’ll try and tag you on a couple of my IG posts taken with this camera. Cheers!
Oh that’s awesome! Yes please do!
Just dug mine out after years of not touching it, so this is just the crash course I needed, thanks!
It’s a pretty fun camera!
@@JustAnotherChris it really is! Totally forgot there was a setting underneath for light conditions 👍🏼
You could tape over the seams to stop light leaks. Another thing you could try is rubber bands.
Yeah that was an idea I had. I was going to shoot a roll as is and see
I'm defiantly getting one of these!!
Do it!!!
I love this format 🙂@@JustAnotherChris
Omg I love it. I need it.
Dude, you passed 20k! Congrats!
Thank you! 🙏
I shoot all three digital instant and regular film. I love switching it up!
It is fun!
I have old russian vilia camera who works like this super easy..... 😀 And now l desited to get old kodak brownie box camera 😀
More 35/120 content please.
It’s coming!!!
I have the black version. They're interesting - quirky - producing more art images than documentary images. You have to embrace the flaws.
The images mine takes are not sharp across the frame only in some areas off centre. However I like the sprocket holes effect.
With no exposure metering it is very easy to under expose so stick to iso 400 and above film and only use in well lit situations.
A big downside is the cost - it's little more than a kids toy in construction yet they charge 80 bucks US - in the UK 60 pound sterling. Here in the UK development costs for film are high.
I'm tempted to get a medium format film camera and adapt it to shoot 35mm film. The images would be sharp, exposed correctly and have the sprocket holes BUT flawless may not be as artistic. Plus medium format film cameras are still quite expensive.
First 5 minutes of the video I was like "Oh wow, I like the photos Chris takes with this camera". But then you mentioned these are all photos from Lomo's promotional material? Was any of the pictures you showed shot by you?
As stated through out the video I haven’t shot with it yet. But super excited to!
Almost forgot Lomo was around, loved my fisheye until it got stolen
Well that’s no fun!
So an extreme budget friendly and expremal version of a... X-Pan?
Well not really but for $80, It really seems like a fun camera to play with!
I would suppose so!
Oh yeah they are fun!!!!! Sunny days at the beach are best!
Will labs be able to make prints from this? Or ist this marketed for people who only scan their negatives?
Yes they can make prints
How does the camera communicate with the flash? Well this communication is very basic. When you press the shutter button the flash will fire. The only problem is the camera will not adjust the intensity of the flash. You will have to control the exposure with the cloud mode or the sunny mode setting. What is happening inside the camera is simple. When the shutter button is pushed electricity can flow from the center contact and the outside metal part of the hot shoe. You can fire a flash with just a wire connecting the two contacts on the part of the flash that go into the hot shoe. But I don't recommend this because you are dealing with high voltage.
i got a blue one that rattled when i shake it lol
Huh that’s interesting
I want to get into film shooting but I'm kinda discouraged by the fact that I'd have to mail it off to get it developed. Any tips?
Well you can develop it at home!
@@JustAnotherChris I mean yeah but I don't want to commit to buying all the gear if I'm just starting out. I'm kinda hoping my local Walgreens still develops film, but I'm not too sure. I suppose worst case there's a photo lab about 20 minutes north of where I am
@@JustAnotherChris I mean I just bought my first camera off eBay for like $6, it's an Ocean Ox-2
I could buy one for about 25 € and I didn't because I already have some cams which I still haven't used yet. Afterwards I was kind of sad... Will try such one maybe one day.
Well no time better than now!
I'd be okay with the toy aspect and lo-fi if the price reflected that. $80 is just way too much.
2024 the digital era. Manufacturing an analog product is super expensive. less of a market.
never liked view finder cameras, cant be sure if ur in focuses
