Gypsy Horse Fair at Wickham

- The Gypsy horse fair at Wickham is one of the oldest gypsy fairs in the country. Gypsies come from all over to buy and sell horses. The Wickham Horse Fair is one of two major events of this kind - the other being the Appleby Horse Fair which also takes place in June.
About Jack's Country:
I used to work as and editor on Out of Town with Jack Hargreaves and then went on to make 60 programmes with him called Old Country for Channel 4 as producer/editor.
Jack mainly lived in Hampshire and Dorset and most of his programmes were shot in these two counties. They told the day to day life in the countryside and introduced us to many of the country crafts that still existed in those days.
I am making a series of films on CZcams about the subjects that Jack would have included in his TV programmes. I am not trying to recreate Out of Town or Old Country as this would be impossible without Jack's wonderful story telling but what I am hoping to do is make films on subjects that Jack may have chosen to make programmes on.

Even though we have lived in Hampshire for many many years this was our first time to The Wickham Horse Fair and we had a great time. We will certainly put it on our list to visit again.

Just a question, do travellers still use dolls heads in the hedge to show a place they can park up? My dad lived in Pensilva, in Cornwall , and explained when I noticed one outside the village what it meant. Sadly the traditional site there is replaced with hard standing and amenities like toilets ,more modern but a bit soulless . Health n safety again, but then I haven't lived with no loo or running water so ?

My pleasure so pleased you enjoyed it. Over the years we have known many romanies including the lovely Harriette great grand daughter of Priscilla Wells and they have all been so nice to us. I really would like to do more on Romany life especially that of the New Forest.

A very good video perhaps I would contest "the majority of Romany are Roman Catholics" as the predominant faith these days are "Born again Christians" from what I have seen, but congratulations on the video
