"it gives me fresh air" shows drab, grey, rainy late-winter German weather that only a pain au chocolat could improve but in all seriousness, this was great! I don't think everyone understands how difficult it is to navigate post-restrictive eating food situations. For some, this descision comes naturally, others need someone to decide for them so they can free themselves from the constant pondering, ruminating and the overall anxiety about the "right" choice.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ~ So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

What helped me was to chose a diet that aligned with my values, instead of a diet that just aligned with my superficial desires (looking pretty, thin, etc.). I went more plant based because I believe in other animals having the right of dignity, and that pushed me to eat more carbs which I was pretty scared to eat before I went on the more plant based diet. By cutting out meat and most animal products, I was forced to open myself to beans, wheat and porridge. My passion for animals overcame my strive to fit in and I became a happier, more liberated person because of it ! It’s not a magical solution though and I’m still struggling a bit, but not as much as before😉
I’m leaving this comment here in case it helps someone find his or her way to freedom and self love!

Not many people speak about how it's a privilege to be able to choose what to eat. I am disabled in a household where I was '' punished '' by being starved and not being allowed to be in the kitchen or even open a pack of crackers. Be blessed, if you can eat what you want. I was vegan, tried so hard, to the point of falling ill because I couldnt go to the kitchen... I have IBS , ARFID and suffer from asperger. I also experienced a lot of food trauma during my childhood and teenage years where I was '' forbiden '' certain food and had to sneak them out or steal them from other at school. I learned that I suffered from food trauma and was force fed and now have some kind of PTSD and unable to stomach food with different smell or texturees as they are very vivid to me. Almost lost my life to it. So many people are forcing their views on what others should eat , but the truth is that They are not in our life and if they were they would cry, they would ask for forgiveness for hurting us with their bad words. If only the earth was easy and kinder .... Oh I wish... I dream.

I was staying in my bf's tiny apartment while job hunting so I'd get up in the morning and head straight to a paris baguette with my laptop and ended up eating pasty for 5 whole days consecutively. On the 6th day, I had the worst, most painful shit of my entire life. It felt like my colon was about to fall out of my ass. I'm not health conscious at all and I usually eat whatever is convenient/tasty because "any food is better than no food" but this poop was my wake up call. I'm still not tip top with my diet but I'm very very conscious of baked goods now unless it's whole grain wheat. My father has IBS for like 30 years now and I don't want to end up like him, and I don't want to end up with a colon cancer either. I'll still indulge now and then but I'll make sure I'm eating something high in fiber everyday, and also something with probiotics everyday.

i dont think its baked goods specifically but just the lack of fiber and ultraprocessed foods (plus maybe dehydration). i think you wouldve experienced the same thing if u were working at your local dominos and sustaining yourself off of 6 slices of pizza a day. the same thing has happened to me a few times, eating an extremely processed diet (eg cereal, protein bar, tv dinners, box mac n cheese) for a few days out of convenience/necessity and having a hard time going to the bathroom. just wanted to say, its not baked goods specific and you should be careful not to overdo any type of ultraprocessed, nonfibrous foods.

Food freedom / intuitive eating is SO SO hard when you have IBS and stomach problems :'( Because You dont want to feel guilty for eating loads of '' junk '' or sweets but it catch up to you when you're crying on the toilet for 2 hours, sweating and almost passing out from the pain ....

It seems like a recurent theme to be either disapointed in our '' choice '' of food like you said about the pain au choco vs the porridge, some days it feels like eating the pastry is perfect but other we will worry about digestive system, some other day porridge will feel awesome and comforting but can also feel very redundant and feeling like '' i should have treated myself '' Ahhhh so many dilemma. And dont get me started on the nutritionisit that only says '' well just eat what you want, that will be 75 € '' :')

i eat oats everyday but they are not the best when taking a deeper look. they are relatively high on the glycemic index ranging from like 52-80. they have glycinate which inhibits the absorption of important nutrients like calcium and iron. this is a quote from a pubmed study "The inhibitory effect of oat products on iron absorption is sufficiently marked to be a serious consideration if such products are more regularly consumed." Now i do still have oats everyday but with a little variation, i soak my oats. 1:2 ratio of oats to water with 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar per cup of oats and i leave it covered over night. this will get rid of much of the glycinate allowing your body to adequately absorb nutrients like iron and calcium. also although more expensive i will be switching to steel cut oats instead of whole grain oats as this type is less processed and lower on the glycemic index. best of luck on your health journey.

Just discovered your channel - your food looks really delicious. And I'm surprised to hear you'd be having a dilemma between your own healthy morning oats and a more rich pastry from a store, since your oats already look more delicious than any breakfast I've ever made for myself. And because ever since I became accustomed to a whole-foods plant-based (WFPB) diet, I haven't personally felt much of a temptation for the more processed foods that I used to consume, simply because I factor in the way my body feels during and after eating a food as one of the relevant metrics alongside the way it tastes. As a result, I typically prefer to eat the whole plant foods more because they make my body feel better - I tend to find the more processed foods less enjoyable to eat now, as a result of this increased awareness of the undesirable effects they have on the way my body feels during and after consuming them.
However, I think this was a great video and highlights a very important mindset shift to make - not viewing food as falling into a "good" or "bad" binary, but simply recognizing all of the relevant factors associated with them, which in my opinion as a fellow vegan should extend beyond the factors which apply to ourselves (like the nutritional value provided to us, or the various aspects involved in the experience of consuming it), but everything that is involved in bringing those foods to us - including the consequences to animals, the environment, and the groups of humans intertwined in the production of those items.
Also, can anyone help me identify what the seed-like toppings added to the oats at 1:17 are?

    • @jazzylich

Thank you! It is super delicious and creamy. I use 1/4-1/2 cup of rolled oats or if I have time, I like to use steel cut oats. Then, I eyeball how much soy milk I put in, but maybe like 1/2 cup as well. (You can always add more later, so start off with less and then add more as you are cooking). Then, I add frozen blueberries or fresh (depending on what I have). 1 Tablespoon of ground flax, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Then, stir and let it cook on medium heat until desired texture. And then I add it to my bowl along with 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts and freshly sliced banana. Sometimes I add nut butter!

For me the thing i've struggled to internalize is that results, or repercussions as you call them here, don't inherently have moral weight. it's not "bad" if i don't make the "right" choice (the one with the fewest or mildest repercussions.)

Thanks! I combine 1/4-1/2 cup of rolled oats, a handful of frozen blueberries and maybe like 1 cup of soy milk into a pot and cook it on medium heat, stirring occasionally until it's goopy.
