Steven Universe uses violence sparingly, and mostly only during story-heavy moments. It's kind of sad to see these scenes diminished by censorship, because everything that contributes to these scenes have an impact on the viewer's emotions and perceptions.

Well in France, although it's not as bad as in Russia, we can notice that especially in the songs, the French dubbers are trying really hard to censor gay relationships. In the song Stronger than you, they try to change their mutual love into mutual FRIENDSHIP. In response to gay friendly fans, they made a proper French translation... only accessible on the internet! And in the episode Mr Greg, guess what they did? They let the English lyrics. They added subtitles that make Pearl's super gayness almost into something like 'Oh, Greg, you took my best friend away!' I find this really annoying and although I watch the American version, I feel very upset for all the French kids and teens who can't and watch this garbage instead.

There are homophobic people here who are criticising LGBT+ representation that happens in Seasons 2, 3 , and 4. That doesn't make sense. If you don't like LGBT+ characters in Steven Universe, why are you still watching the show?! Do you think Steven will just wake up one episode and all the gayness is a dream? it's perfectly fine to criticize a show and still enjoy it. i know of a few people who actually hate steven and still continue to watch and enjoy the show. but i think the point the original commenter was making was the fact that homophobic people continue to watch and criticize a key point in the series. personally, if i was homophobic or not a fan of steven, i wouldn't watch steven universe, so it's really a question on why are you watching if all you're gonna do is hate everything. ugh that made zero sense.

Well, if you live outside of USA but can understand english - everything is OK. Original uncensored version of the any tv show can be easily found on torrent trackers.
Also, fans of the show can make a very high quality translate in subtitles, wich undoubtely better than a official translate of dub version.

Actually, the UK censorship was actually because it's illegal for things that are even a tiny bit suggestive to air on tv in the UK, and that fusion dance was a bit too suggestive to be legally aired on tv. It had nothing to do with it being a gay couple. Besides, they left in everything else containing gayness in the show.

I find it so weird that EVERYONE talks about how revolutionary Steven Universe is for having gay representation and yet I literally hear nothing about how Loud House has a legitimately married homosexual couple or how Clarence has a legitimately married lesbian couple, and both sets of couples have a child in both shows too so that's even more awesome... like where's the outpouring of support for those shows?
Like I don't wanna say they get ignored cause they don't make gay couples look flashy and special magic snowflaky... but that's almost exactly what Steven Universe kinda does, at least Clarence and Loud House show gay couples as normal people like everyone else.

As an American who has lived in NZ for the past 4 months I unfortunately must let you know there is a lot of censorship in cartoons like SU in NZ. Alot of it is small, but having seen the originals in the US I have to cringe whenever I see the kids in the family I'm living with watching one of these shows because considering it is already in english there is absolutely no reason to change anything at all to air them down here.

CN Australia sucks, why does Teen Titans go get to keep their offensive crap but Steven universe gets censored, Why do Fights and fusion dances in SU get censored, we get the episodes The Answer and Hit the Diamond aired but We don't get to see Sadie and Lars kiss but they do show Ruby and Sapphire. It bothers me how Steven universe has to cut out all its gender and marriage equality lessons whilst Teen Titans Go gets to keep all of their Sexist and offensive episodes. CN Australia cuts out all the best parts of Adventure Time too, they cut off Ice king when he says "night vision goggles, for when you have lady friends" or when jake says "If you weren't a figment of my imagination, I'd wanna have your baby" I think those parts are great, but oh no children can't handle a subtle sex joke every now and then, a joke they won't even pick up on, let's dumb it down to Fart jokes because children are stupid.
I honestly don't like fart jokes which is why I watch teen titans and not teen titans go.

Also many teens in Netherlands actually prefer SU more than any new show on either CN or Disney. This explains why a majority of SU fans in Europe are Dutch. The problem is that they face horrible dubbing of their Dutch version of the show, like they left out the English lyrics onto their show, or making Jasper's voice slightly male-like. I wouldn't be surprised if they air SU in full Dutch dubbing on NPO (via AVROTROS or BNN-VARA)

In Russian translation Ruby(an few other gems) is a he. In part because in Russian language words have genders and Ruby is a he, but I think the real reason is again to pretend homosexuality does't exist.
CN RSEE, which broadcasts in Russia in addition to Bulgaria and various Eastern European countries, has to follow Russian broadcast regulations, hence the ratings found on various promos, bumpers and at the beginning of shows. CN RSEE (and the dubbing studio that dubs _SU_ into Russian) doesn't want to censor the activity between Ruby and Sapphire but has to comply with the Russian anti-gay propaganda law (which prevents media aimed at minors from spreading pro-LGBT content), so they attempt to refer to some Gem characters (such as Ruby) as male to comply with laws.

Note that the Rainbow Quartz fusion dance was edited by all EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Cartoon Network feeds that aired the episode because of the suggestive-looking near kiss between Pearl and Rose Quartz and Pearl hanging upside down with a devilish smile. Those parts were altered to a young Greg playing his rock guitar on all feeds save for CN France, which retained that scene. _All_ feeds however, changed the part where Rainbow Quartz kneels down like a stripper to a closeup of Greg's face as he looks at her.

It's more that it's illegal to show something "suggestive" on UK childrens' broadcasting. Moreso dodging a legal bullet than anything, which I can understand. Ultimately, it's the laws here that need to change, especially given that CNUK is generally targetted towards young teens - young adults as opposed to children.

I don't like the implication that a scene was censored in the UK for depicting a same sex relationship. I'm sure whoever made the call decided it was too suggestive regardless of the characters' genders. I'm sure we legalised gay marriage here well before many states in America (I'm sure its still illegal in many).
The U.S. has gay marriage legalized in all states and it has since 2015- only one year after the UK did so. Not sure why you even added that end part.
