- This afternoon saw the departure of Cunard's Queen Mary 2 from the City Cruise Terminal at 16:43pm outbound for New York. She had arrived earlier in the morning from Zeebrugge along with Ventura which arrived earlier in the morning from Lanzarote and left Southampton again at 16:42pm bound for Lisbon.
It is not very often that Queen Mary 2 uses the City Cruise Terminal as I have only known her to use it twice but it has been noted from other sources that she has used this berth at least 6 times now.
Before she left she blew her horn with 7 short blasts and one long blast then when she got further away from the quay side she then blew again 3 times before sailing away down the Southampton water on her journey to New York.
I sailed on the Queen Mary 2 a couple of years ago on a 12 day cruise from Australia to New Zealand it was great and the ship is Queen of the seas
Remember: the QM2 is not a cruise ship. She's a purebred ocean liner worthy of the Blue Riband.
true
@@baconhoror4705 She is not worthy of the Blue riband because she is no where near fast enough. She would be lucky to average 30 knots if she tried.
@@scabbycatcat4202 QM2's official top speed is 29.5 knots which was about the same as the Bremen & Rex...so, yes she is in that league. She may have even reached a bit more than 30.1, but only in the right conditions, but no officially.
@@tompecena8573 Well that is no where near fast enough to match the 34+ knots of the last Ocean Liner blue Riband holder the United States.
She is not even worthy of Pabst Blue Riband .
4:36 is when horn comes :D
Nice Video and by the way:
0:35 (Copy) General Alarm: The general alarm on the ship is recognized by 7 short ringing of bell followed by a long ring or 7 short blasts on the ship’s horn followed by one long blast. The general alarm is sounded to make aware the crew on board that an emergency has occurred.
The only remaining Ocean Liner now❤️
Amen to that!! She is truly a world wide ocean liner and she cruises world wide.
Lovely video. The seven short, one long, blasts are for the obligatory life boat stations practice that usually takes place at 4.15 p.m.
We are lucky in Southampton to be able to go to Mayflower Park and Town Quay to watch these fab ships sail.
I was on the QM2 two years ago. My favourite ship, liners are just so different in atmosphere.
The Queen Mary 2 came in to auckland port, New Zealand not long ago and we saw and took lots of pics & vids about it, and truly grand hip and continues to be the biggest cruise ship I've ever seen
It's a ocean liner not a cruise ship
I like this horn instead of the other horn combinations
She is a magnificent ship , more traditional style , saw her when she visited just off Flamborough head
Tremendous! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Steve lovely shots. She certainly sounded pleased heading for New York Thank you Trev
Many thanks.
Beautiful

Hi Peter thank you for your time in commenting on my video, it is nice to know that you enjoyed viewing my channel...regards...Steve.
Thanks Steve
Great beautiful video!! Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Japan.
Many thanks I did wonder what the 7 short and one long blast of the horn was for :-) Steve
That was the general alarm. 7 short and 1 long
Cool to see how way of ships leaving port from being pulled by tug boats to propellers under the waterline to push the ship away without assistance
Great video'''thunbs up....
Looking forward to queen mary 2 on April .. touring in Europe /Asian .
Steve you know that 7 short and 1 long is emergency signal. nice video tho. wonder how many desibel the horn is though
I am not sure what decibel the horn is.
+Steve Carrett I remember that the original Queen Mary's horns were around 55 hz, I know the that by today's maritime standards a ship like the QM2 is required to have horns that can be heard from a distance of about 10 nautical miles in open ocean. not sure what the decibel level would be though.
It as qm typhoon horn from the 3os witch u can hear 10 miles away
it sounds at 4:35
Nice video ) Like ))

Haaaaaaaaaaaa
She will never take the Blue Ribband. Not fast enough.
Yeah the current holder is ss United states
@@helenpeat3294 Sorry to tell you this, but your wrong. The last time I heard, the Blue Ribband was to a catermaran ferry , built in New Zealand that was being sent to England. It came across the Pacific through the Canal up to the coast of Nova Scotia where it was refueled at sea and then made the run across the Atlantic. The Ribband goes to the fastest crossing of a passenger ship, not an Ocean Liner. I dissagree with this but it's the Law.
