Dark, melodic, gloomy, inventive, and expertly written. interpol never fail.
Lol come on now. This is beyond bad.
wut?@@BalboaBaggins
This song is so unbelievable. That melancholic, empty atmosphere really hits you hard. I seriously can't wait for the album!
reminds me a LOT of the self titled album. it's so criminally underrated, I'm so happy that they are tapping on that style again regardless of critical acclaim
also, I wish that they could re-launch marauder with a different production, the album got kinda ruined by the terrible production (compare the album version and the live session they did on if you really love nothing, it's night and day)
@@gustavogoesgomes1863 agree, Marauder seems it was recorded in a public bathroom. Awful production, but it's a great album.
The production of this new material is way better because of Flood - his sound is rich and dynamic. They never sounded this good - apart from TOTBL.
what's people's thoughts on ' the other side of make beliieve'?
"As a biological function of being alive, I will make music regardless of whether people like it or respond to it."
- Paul Banks
Oh I like it, and I am certainly responding,
thanks for all the art over the years gentlemen. 🖤
Loved these guys since I was 13. I’m 32 now. Still listening to it every day.
Great quote, where'd he say that?

@@lovelorn4154 Nice. Simpler times, kinda, although I was a juvenile delinquent, haha. Interpol is music for the cigarette smoking, shoegazing dandies who drinks alone too much and do drugs, but still read books.
The piano is so divine, yet haunting. An absolutely beautiful track from start to finish.
I like them both a lot. It sounds like a more mature, organic sounding Interpol. Reminds me of good independent cinema. I think they're going in the right direction. That’s to me.
True
This one is a lot better
sounds unmusical and directionless, without and profundity whatsoever.. you're p*ssing into the wind mate
I agree sooo much. Love you.
I'd like to see them win
I like the inspiration like it's going in the right direction
That's to me
New song already?! Thanks Interpol, you really know how to treat your fans.
Encantada de ver muchos Interpoleros de México 🔥

meh
I love HIS voice soooo much!!!...and everytime the piano melody gets me soooo much...SIMPLY LOVE IT!!!😁
its really basic and without any verve
@@aperinich < What he said.
His voice is trash
Too much cigarettes.
He smokes a lot if he keeps smoking his voice will be gone.
Is just sad
If I could date a voice ....it would be Paul Banks
@@aperinich I think it's really interesting, complicated and touching. It's not easy, and all the more rewarding.
I've been in love with this band ever since my moody pre-teen self saw their music video for Evil on Fuse 17 years ago. I'm 29 now and these guys are still killing it in 2022. Amazing.
I love them since obstacle 1 came out, when I was 16 o 17 I don't remember 😅 I saw them once, and this year I'll see them again in november 🥲
Hell yeah bro I came of age when Antics came out...life's never been the same since :)
Transcribed Lyrics
Waited through shame for this
I waited through shame for this
Are you there?
Every day I'd see if chance was calling
Are you there?
I got a numb skull
I got a green heart
Something changed
We're outgunning
We all suffer the same faiths
We're in the sun
Like nothing
Always in the good fight
Something changed
Now I'm stuck here
So defensive
I wanna seek
What kind of place
They'd lay for me
I don't like these open endings
Are you there?
I forgive you but
There's no pretendings
Are you there?
I got a numb skull
I got a green heart
Something changed
We're outgunning
I wanna speak fast
Let's know without substance
It's more powerful than
They can supply
Every day we're all stuck
Here so defective
I wanna seek what kind of
Place they'd lay for me
I forgive you but there's
No pretending
It becomes automatic
It becomes all but free
It becomes automatic
It becomes all but free
Something changed
We're outgunned
You may wanna stay back
It's not the same
No sense in running
For the sake of the old path
No parade
Nobody's coming
We're all part of the same path
I wanna see
What kind of place
They lay for me
It becomes automatic
It becomes all but free
It becomes automatic
It becomes all but free
I think it goes ‘it becomes automatic, it becomes all but free’
@@mattgreene01 good ear, I'll put that for now 👍
Also the chorus is a bit different:
‘Something changed, well I’ve got in
We all suffer the same things
We’re in the sun, like nothing
All waging the good fight’
@@mattgreene01 thanks 👍
And the last one: ‘I got a numb skull, I got a green heart’
Went to Toni then to Somethings changed then back to Toni and keep going around and around. Interpol have blessed all of us with this merry go-round❤🎉

This album is definitely telling a story of some type and I’m here for it 👁
This song helped me realize that my day clinic treatment actually works ("recurrent major depression, currently severe"). I can feel again. Thanks for that Paul and Interpol from the deepest of my heart.
I like(d) a lot of bands from the most various genres at various times. Some of them changed into directions that I just couldn't follow (e.g. Placebo). But you... I feel like our paths are in parallel and I am unspeakably thankful for that.
Damn i felt like that too
Songs just too good…
Animo Nedda
Why no Placebo? By the way I’m not a big fan, its just gives me curiosity to discover why 😅😳
feel the same
One of the greatest bands of our era.

The bass is gorgeous
Wow they're really shining a more mature side, this song is showing more of an art rock and darker classic post punk inspired sound instead of the indie rock influence of the post punk revival. Yeah you could say that this song has a solo Paul and Muzz stuff influence going on but It's way way more complex than that I'm hearing a Radiohead and a Nick Cave influence here just listen to those Jazzy drums gosh so good, the clossest we ever got to this was the song Twice as hard the last song from El Pintor but on this song the jazz influence its better executed.
I been reading a lot of people complaining about the stylistic change (as one might excpect) not only for this release but since the self titled and it just seems that they don't get it everyone wants another TOTBL another Antics but they're ignoring all of the simplicity and yet the complexity of a drum pattern of a song like Try It On, the whole bunch of underrated basslines, somber piano melodies, and layered backing vocals harmonies from the Self titled, every album of the band has experimentation to a degree even Marauder (The Drums on It probably matters have more in common with funk, R&B and Hip hop than with indie rock. The bass from If you really love nothing it's not that easy if you try to play it exactly how it's recorded).
This is a band that has to nothing to prove to no one and it's been like that since Our Love To Admire and like that album it's seems like they've choosen a polished production focus working with Flood (Depeche Mode, New Order, U2, NIN).
Obviously this is just a preview of what is to come, but honestly I have great hope for this record, no interpol album has ever disappointed me and that is because I love each one in their own way and for their own reasons and merits, they are great musicians with an artistic motivation and not just radio hit makers. Interpol is a band that matures like a good wine, don't ask them to do the same as when they were 20 years old.
(Btw sorry for this long text and for my writing, English isn't my first language)
I agree there is a lot to appreciate and much growth since they started.
The song has such a beautiful texture and hypnotic melody 🖤❤️
This song was such a huge influence on a song I just finished writing. Paul Banks delivers beautiful & intimate vocals which give life to some rather eloquent words 🖤❤
AAAAAAAH.
Simply put, This is a Masterpiece from Interpol. The whole sound scape is incredible. An absolutely stunning work of Art, Thank you for this and all your albums 👍
Hauntingly beautiful, been a fan for almost 20 years and still get the thrill all the time! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Me too x
This is an interpol classic
WOW you guys are the better. maturing so much into something great STILL, signs of true artists. Love how your sounds is developing, highlighting new instruments more than Daniel's signature guitar riffs. Melancholic and tasteful, contemplative and then in command, love that pendulum this song creates.
The one thing I'm getting off these two songs is: Interpol is finally experimenting with their sound.
Much needed and appreciated!
It's Our Love Pt 2 kinda to me so far
@@michaelg2502 I'd fully agree with "Toni" but this one sounds more like Interpol pt. 2
I miss the "kick" there was in their previous songs/albums but it's still beautiful to hear

I can’t stop listening to this. It absolutely consumed me.
Artistically phenomenal. It's darkly moody and atmospheric.
I took like 10 times listening to this EP to actually understand and enjoy this two songs and I didn't even know it had a music video. Now i can say, for sure, it's a master piece of art. Interpol being Interpol, but now so much more mature and kind of evil hahaha
the first 4 albums are perfection. paul banks solo the same. interpol will taunt you & haunt your radio until u dare listen again... Interpol live was sheer bliss. i was higher than heroin hearing them thru speakers grand & surrounded by other entranced souls. oh wonder!
Clearly Muzz has played a role in this new sound. Guitars are no longer a focal point but rather a complement to a broader soundscape. I love it. I like to see them win.
¡¿COMO QUE SALISTE CHAPULIN, PAUL!?

Soy fan de Interpol desde que aparecieron. En 2001. Y sus primeros discos van unidos a mi Gran Historia Sentimental.
Ahora todo ha cambiado.
Y escucharles me alegra y me entristece.

it's hard not to be nostalgic for better days
The car is a 1973 Dodge Coronet if anyone was wondering.
Bless you

In this song, upon first listen I can hear all the good that Paul did with the Muzz. I'm impressed 😍
Agree!
The boys delivering once again. Loving the drums on this track!
Sam is the man….this song really showcases his control and skill
So ready to see another Interpol concert..the vibes are always highhh💯💥😎🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥰😻😻😻😻😻😻
Always a good day when new Interpol comes out.
New tracks have been on repeat 🔁
Honestly, I'm quite pleased to see 60,000 views in 12 hours. I love this band so much.
I'm looking forward to this album.
Loving the space with these new tracks so far!! Tasty production!
This is simple and melodic. Love Interpol. OMG, April 25th can’t get here any faster!!!!
Interpol with pure class, again. Vibes of El Pintor mixed with turn on the bright lights.
Sounds way more like Self-Titled to me, but yeah, great stuff.
Can you say pensive? Excellent study in mood, the dissonance is used brilliantly.
I also enjoy running naked through farmland to Interpol songs 😌
As well as being chased by a tangerine eating Paul banks.
The production of the video and the story with drama and surrealism, has blown my mind...
This new project must be the best Interpol have done in years...
Bro i’ve been listening Interpol since Turn on the bright lights and s***, 20 years later i’m still crying
Love you Paul
Something changed in Interpol. Love it
one of my fav bands ever
The story between these two feels like a Persephone/Hades meets West Side Story type of thing and I kinda dig it. The thing with the tangerine kind of reminds me of the symbolism with the pomegranate like in the original tale of Persephone. I can't wait to see how the concept is furthered once the entire album comes out
I was getting the Garden of Eden; both nude, innocent but then shame and alienation sets in. There was even the tree of knowledge of good and evil tattooed on Adam’s chest. Paul playing the role of serpent slinking around tempting the woman (who she ran away with in this story).
(Side note: the fruit in Eden wasn’t an apple but a fig; that’s why Adam and Eve covered themselves in fig leaves; sort of like a kid who has chocolate around their mouth and saying they didn’t eat the candy.)
@@forgetaboutit1069 that makes lots of sense too. good insight
If the video is inspired by the Adam and Eve story, I am not sure if Paul represents the serpent as he is the one handing the coat to “Eve” at the end. Then again the red light on top of the vehicle could either set Paul as an authority figure or it could be used by him to present himself as an authority figure.
Paul IS the damn orange and I'm tasting it right now 👹
Im not gonna lie but this is my fav song rn
I bet this one also is gonna be awesome 👌!!!! I love how Interpol connects histories through their songs and now on videos .... thanks guys!!!
it's an interpol song. of course, it's gonna be awesome 😅

@@zeilian well interpol has a couple bad albums. A few actually. So it’s a toss up, the new single has been a good sign. A much better improvement than 2018’s album. I hope Paul doesn’t sound awful when these are live. Dude smoked so much he’s lost a lot of his voice
@@natechenry nah. bad isn't a word i would use in the context of interpol at all. s/t is mainly a boring, lifeless album, but not bad. and marauder has great songwriting, but is mixed to death by dave fridman. also not bad. 'get the girls/song 5' is the only song by interpol i would call bad.
but yeah, i'm excited for this new one, because it really sounds like a new change-up for the band.
and hasn't pauls live voice declined so much, because he *stopped* smoking?
@@zeilian it’s bad. And many other long time interpol fans can attest to that. It’s ok to call a great band’s albums bad, every great band has flukes. Interpol dropped in quality after our love to admire. This finally sounds to be a return to form. And the piano is a welcome addition, now the real test if Paul’s voice is better. Doubt it. Years of smoking has life long affects.
how is this song not more popular it’s one of the best songs ever

The aesthetics of Interpol stay consistent the ending of there tracks always leave me wanting more. Hence the reason why I’ve constantly kept hitting replay as soon as it ends.

Helena Christensen love
It sounds like something from Muzz the Band. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The new album is not disappointing, love how it's got some self titled grooves to it.
It's so very interpol
You haven’t listened to the new album yet. It doesn’t come out for a few months. And the tracks thus far say it’s just as bleak as the last few records. This isn’t Interpol. This is just another terrible track. More like Muzz than anything
I was thinking self titled too, or Paul Banks solo. Or they're doing like Artic Monkeys with Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.
@@natechenry do you still want clones of TOTBL or evolve in your musical experience? To be honest, these two tracks are great. Different from TOTBL for sure, but you can definitely tell it's Interpol. And the more I listen to them the more they grow on me.
@@stefanopassiglia I want a good song. They haven’t had that in a long time. These two tracks are mediocre at best. This band tried to sound different and it didn’t work. That’s your thing. A lot of people have this love hate relationship with the band because of the bleak direction they have gone the last decade, it’s bad. These new songs aren’t anywhere near the potential the band could be at.
@@natechenrywell, you know, that's just like, your opinion man.
Absolutely phenomenal been a fan since Obstacle1 🤘
Okay, this new vibe is really cool.
Wow great as Interpol usual! ♥
Wow I was really a big interpol fan but I have to say. This is a sublime masterpiece ,the videoclip and se sound are a notorious signs of the art evolution in the band
Oh that last few seconds were so sweet sounding!
Neat vocals! Anyone else here noticing the Muzz’s influence on the new Interpol’s stuff?
