I use good oil and proper mix on my BR600 but still need to clean that spark arrester about every 50 hours. Otherwise, the blower will start but stalls and bogs on acceleration.

I think the previous guy failed to check the condition of the spark arrester screen. So he took apart the carb instead, thinking it was a carb issue, he pulled out the butterfly valve, for doing a deep cleaning, and he failed to install it back in the proper orientation. Of course the amazing Bruce Pender figured it out, and fixed it proper. Great job Bruce!

I always take the blower tube off first when I work on blowers. Always in the way. You can zip tie the throttle controller to the side off the machine for testing. It easily unscrews from the tube.

Stihl owns Zama; bought the Japanese co. in '08. Thus, that must be an aftermarket carb. Great catch on the plate. At one point I thought it might need a valve adjustment, but after checking, I learned that the 430 is not a 4-Mix engine like my BR600.

Good mechanical detective work Bruce ! Although some Stihl blowers are 2 stroke and others 4 stroke, they all start the same : you just turn the choke on 1 or 2 notches ( it will also open the throttle a bit) no need to fiddle with the throttle trigger on the blower tube. Once started, touching the throttle trigger will cancel choke and bring the machine back to idle. Oh yeah, for the younger crowd, that "Clampett" joke was a referral the a '60s tv show called The Beverley Hillbillies. Regards !

Good job Bruce. Stihl does make some good equipment but they can be a pain to work on. Stihl normally uses Zama carbs. I have an old BR400 back pack blower that I let my dad keep and use. I finally had to replace the carb a few years ago. I bought one of those Chinese knock offs and it runs great. Most Back Pack blowers should be started in Idle position and them idle a minute or two to warm up then they are good to go.

I will make sure I improve my videos and at the same time I want you to make one video of something you like. I will watch it and enjoy your effort. This is a very difficult thing to do on a budget as there is only one person producing the entertainment. There is no one else doing this. Including----- Ideas, Filming, Production and Editing, Sound and Lighting. I hope you enjoy my other productions and I truly want you to enjoy my other videos.
