- Scenes from Blackpool on Saturday August 3rd as a planned protest got underway, starting at Talbot Square & moving to other areas of town.
A heavy police presence surrounded the Metropole Hotel, which is housing Afghan refugees.
It was also the 3rd day of the popular Rebellion Music festival.
I was joined by The Blackpool Lads, follow here / @theblackpoollads

How is it that a massive Police presence is seen yet if you get burgled and report it they don't have anybody available to come round to see what's what ??

Looks to me like the majority of the people here are bystanders, day trippers and holiday makers. Just folk having a gander. Thank you for adding some well needed context.
Stephen that was a great way to approach that incident. Others can argue to their hearts content about the whys and wherefores of the protest. You just concentrated on one thing - the effect on the ordinary Sunday visitors to Blackpool Prom. Loved the distance you maintained from the protests ,- and thankfully we never saw a single face of any protestors nor had to listen to their reason why they were thére. You looked at it from the point of view of ordinary people with no axes to grind - and it was incredibly effective.
Thanks. It was not really my cup of tea to film, but I did it as best I could. I could tell who the real troublemakers were, and thankfully they were very few in a large crowd.

It is it's horrendous in the Town centre they have smashed the shoezone windows and Greggs and Lush set fire to shoezone shop they have had to close the train and bus station it's been going in since dinner time it took me over four hours to get home it was very scary in the town x😊

The police were nowhere to be seen when they let a load of thugs walk through St John's Square who then proceeded to launch bottles at people that were just sat enjoying themselves. When they eventually arrived, they didn't do much at all.

They had plenty of resources around Talbot Square and, quite literally, none at all in St John's Square. Over seven minutes to get from the bottom of Clifton St and turn right down Abingdon Street? Where did they think the crowds were heading?

Thank you Steve for showing us the protest from yesterday. I went down to St Chad's Headland at 5pm. Lovely and peaceful, with lots of families and groups of friends enjoying themselves by the sea. I knew nothing of the protest until I saw it on the BBC news at 10pm.

I've friends in Blackpool today, with a young (around three) Son, what impression does this give of the town to them? Same goes all over the country, of course!
It was pretty clear to me who the troublemakers were. The vast majority of the crowd behaved, but it's always those few idiots who only want to cause trouble.

There is over 650 migrants in that hotel alone, they’re given 3 meals a day, unlimited cakes, snacks etc, a new mobile phone, taken to all football matches and English lesson every Monday and Friday, can come and go as they please, the government has signed a deal to keep letting migrants in (fighting aged men) for the next 10 years….. in the mean time, we have veterans on the streets who are not getting any help. thanks for the video ! stay safe.

Hi, we were in Blackpool this afternoon when all this was going on and where we were going, Russ Brown's House if Secrets, was told not to open because of it. We then left and managed to miss most of it and are now home in Wigan.

Yea it may be a little beer but I am finding just riding my bike as I have done over the last 30 years along the canal.. what used to be a nice quiet run is nearly 100% of the time punctuated with FRICTION.. and that happens even when I am super slow being super respectful.. think bikes are getting a bad name but also people are getting increasingly agitated and uneasy with really troubling and scary times.
it is hard to imagine that same place being battered by storms...

Blackpool does look lovely in the sun. It's great to see the police quelling any disorder before the spectators turn up. Racing (or galloping) with lights and sirens all over town, whilst maintaining an impenetrable cordon, complete with dogs, to prevent any harm to our guests. Blackpool still puts on a good show :)
As always the best coverage of the events in Blackpool were brought to us courtesy of Mr Cheatley. Also despite everything that was going on, we were treated to a view of the Irish Sea, which looked particularly beautiful. A welcome contrast to the ugly scenes in town. xxx

I was in Blackpool for the punk festival , I first came nearly 20 years ago and have never seen the likes of this before not on this scale. The came with intention of causing trouble . The want communities to rip their selves apart. I know things are not perfect but as Jimmy Pursy said if the kids are united they will never be divided

This started out as a response to the tragedy in Southport but this has been blown way of proportion and taken the spotlight off of the issues raised after that incident. How is this going to raise awareness to help avoid another tragedy like Southport? The hijacking of the vigil, the other riots. These people can't use Southport as an excuse for their behaviour but unfortunately they will. If they were really concerned about the issues, none of this would be happening.

718 was one of the Balloons rebuilt as the B fleet, being fitted with widened doors to use the new platforms, for duplicating the modern trams. Thy've largely ben unneeded in that form but 718 has been used reguarly this year, duplicating the modern trams between Starr Gate & North Pier.
It's probably the blandest looking of the heritage fleet.

Folk feel as though priority is given to our overseas guests, whether it's with the NHS, benefits, the legal system, or housing. Whether it's true or not is up for debate.
My understanding from friends I have from Hong Kong, and from other people I’ve spoken to, is that even after they are given permission to stay here they have to pay to use docs,hospitals etc. I don’t know about housing etc , but can’t see that they would be given priority. I think it’s the media’s fault they write the headlines to purposely wind people up, and to cause segregation and blame.
Folk that never paid a penny into our system get the same priviliges as folk who paid in all their lives ?? that' is Not right !!

I think this has been building for years. We all saw firsthand how police and social services turned a blind eye to what happened in places like Rotherham and Rochdale. The victims were young underage white females. The offenders were almost all older Pakistani men. We all know if the shoe was on the other foot it would have been stopped a lot sooner.
