    I received my 2 Aiyima A07 Max amps a few days ago and hooked them up as mono blocks. I'm using an iFi Zen DAC as a preamp. They're driving a Delcoid sat/sub system that's a bit over 40 yrs old. The sub is a 12". I was worried about these amps driving it. Previously, I was running this setup with a QSC GX5 amp that's 500wpc. I'm not disappointed. The A07Max's drive this sub very well. Bass output is what I've come to expect from this sub. Very nicely controlled too...not boomy or muddy. I use no tonal controls and I don't need them. Mids are beautiful and the high end is crystal clear with no harshness. Thx for the review and recommendation of the Aiyima's !

    +1 for the WiiM source pick. I must have tried eight or ten sources over the years going back to Raspberry Pi 2, 3, 3+hat, 4 and then probably another five or six USB DACs. The WiiM Pro was finally what I was expecting then added a Pro Plus. My application is ceiling speakers around the house more for ambient than hifi but respectable. My amps auto-power and with the Yamaha NSIW280CWH3P speakers in the ceiling have been praised for best bathroom experience..... I like the info in this video on adding an outboard DAC to flex. The WiiM ability to sync multiple sources is another feature in its favor. This the first of your videos I've seen - very nice.

    I'm an audiophile noob. Today I received my A07 Max, WiiM mini, and a pair of fantastic Neumi BS5 speakers. All from Amazon and spent $278 total. Had a blast hooking it all up and listened for 3 hours. So fun and sounds so good...I've got a new hobby thanks to you! Really appreciate the info!

    I got the SMSL SU-1 and Topping L30II going into Hifiman He400SE. I returned the DAC and amp after 2 days. My ears could perceive NO improvement in audio over the 'crappy' DAC built into my PC.
    The good news is, I determined that I cant even differentiate between 128 kbps audio and lossless audio, so I am DONE searching for 'higher end' audio equipment.

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo Před 4 měsíci +7

    Great info for those starting out or looking for a small second system. I already have the Sony SSCS5s and it is a great speaker for the price. If you have them less than 3 feet from you, the sound is pretty full, but further away and the bass drops off fast. So it can use a sub. I am probably going to get the Fosi ZA3, but not sure if I am going to need a streamer. I usually listen to higher quality audio from fixed sources. Finally, kudos to Randy for going back to stuff we can afford! All the expensive scrap was making me perturbed as it doesn't do me any good if I can't afford it.

      @jukingeo Před 3 měsíci

      @@TokoTsuki I want to try the Fosi ZA3. I currently have the Aiyima 08 Pro, which is good, but doesn't have the upgradeable op amps. I am also still auditioning speakers. So far the Klipsch RP-600m's are in the forefront, but the mid-range dip on that speaker definitely has to be corrected. The Sony's are more lively in that midrange area, but lack bass. I want to try some vintage speakers as well such as Advents and the B&O CX-100's.

    Great job - would enjoy seeing this for $1000, for $1500, and (oh no!) $2000. Would make a great series and you could update as new gear comes out. I implemented the Wiim setup for a whole-house (Living/Family/Dining) solution (on your advice) and it's working great. Have an old Pioneer Elite in the Living Rm that sounds great; powered soundbar/Wiim Mini in Family Rm, and another mini in Dining Rm. Now need to figure out the best way to get out to the Deck outside and into the basement - maybe the newest Wiim with built-in amp...

  • @gaycha6589
    @gaycha6589 Před 4 měsíci +6

    The Wiim amp/streamer seems an obvious choice on any shortlist - it also has Sub out facility plus multiroom and plenty apps/codecs. whilst with speakers it goes over $500, its still a good deal and bypasses the first upgrades stages. Add sub later.

    Great video and information. This is exactly the sort of information I was looking for. How would a turn table plug in here? From my limited understanding, the set up described is single channel for a lack of better phrases with the WIIM being your media source. So in essence, you're connections are WIIM ---> DAC --> AMP--> Speakers. At what point of connection / how would you tie in a phono pre amp without disassembling your DAC and WIIM?

    I tried a couple of different powered speaker setups for my bedroom but found them entirely unsatisfactory. None could be played at the volume level I wanted, so I went to CZcams looking for a channel that could guide me to something decent that I could afford. I ended up here. After watching quite few of your videos, I decided to let this one be my guide and I ordered two A07s, an A3 preamp and a pair of SSCS5s. The amps and preamp came right away but because I bought the speakers through a weird outlet, they were delayed. I couldn't wait for them so when I discovered that Neumi BS5s could be had next day for $110.00, I ordered a set of those to use in my bedroom until the Sonys arrived. I figured I could buy another amp and put them in the living room so I also ordered an A08 for there.
    Now, everything is here and I have to say thanks to you because your recommendations were spot on. Both sets of speakers sound very good, especially the Sony's and the A08 with the Neumis have plenty of power to fill my living room with sound. I am a very happy man. I have not had a system that sounded this good for at least 20 years and all my music sounds stunning now. I got so excited I ordered a T8 to pair with the A08, and hopefully, I am done. Thanks again. The last time I heard Gentle Giant sound this good was the last time I saw them live in 1979.

    I was lucky enough to get the Fosi Audio ZA3 48 v before they sold out on Amazon. I bought some Elac UB-5 's last April For $269 and had them paired with a SMSL DA9, Topping E50 w/ IFI power supply And an Echo link. So when I switched The SMSL to the Fosi I noticed a lot bigger soundstage and a lot more clarity in my Elac UB5. I was heaaring Instruments and sounds behind me . I didn't realize they were coming from my speakers at first. The Elacs are so clear and the soundstage is huge. . Kind of amazing the difference changing that one component. I am running the E50 as a pre amp and using the remote .
    The Da9 is now replaceing my Ayima AO7 that runs my Phonograph and now that sounds great now .
    Love your channel . Thanks . I got the $88 Sonys Sscs5 in 2021 thanks for your tips . Those are in my bedroom with a topping pa3 and a wiim mini.
    Not sure if I will buy another ZA3 to run mono blocks , Probably wait till they are more available .

Thanks to your recommendations I managed to bag a Wiim Mini, Topping DX3 pro, Fosi Audio ZA3 and a pair of Q Acoustic 3030i’s for less than £700. So I'm really intrigued by the ZA3, but hesitant to pull the trigger. I've toyed with several other of the Class D's over the past 18 months, and I've been wanting to get into a monoblock setup. My hesitancy now is that the ZA3 is not really bridged, and doesn't really leverage the full power. Pardon my lack of technical depth, but I think it basically just "shuts off" the left channel, rather than bridging the amp? I'm wondering if the next iteration takes the next step to leverage the full power of the amp? I know it's fine for most of my speakers (mainly running Klipsch RP600M IIs) but I have some vintage speakers that really like power (Dahlquist DQ-10 among them) that I would love to hear sing in this setup. Any insight if Fosi may be iterating to leverage both channels' power in mono mode? Love the variable sub out on each as well...that was holding me back on others :-)

      @@jeffp0rn i ended up spending money lol. i got a topping dac and a wiim mini streamer. i will say the convenience is great being able to just use my phone to stream to my 2.1 system. but, it didn't really transform my music listening. it might be a little more enjoyable? i didn't compare to be honest. but, it's definitely not night and day or anything. the main benefit would be the convenience...and with a boosted sound quality some...but how much? i don't know. i don't regret the purchase at all if that helps
      edit: the wiim mini for 90 bucks, def worth the cost. i spent like 350 dollars on the topping e70. that is a little harder to justify. i do like it though. i think smsl has a 80 dollar dac that is supposed to be good, you could use that to hook up the wiim mini and people have nothing but good things to say about that dac. so 160 would get ya a dac and streaming capabilities. you might not even need the dac if you have an input on your amp for it. good luck!

    There is a dac hdmi converter for your tv that could possibly be a game changer for a bedroom system???? They cost about $20 and convert hdmi signal to rca so can go from the arc hdmi spot so can control volume with the tv remote. I wonder what it would be like to go from that to the za3 would be like, that would be an even cheaper system bypassing the wiim mini and using spotify on the tv. Not as nice streaming from TV instead of control from the phone unless you have Google cast, BUT provides volume control which alot of people would appreciate over having 2 separate remotes and allows for MUCH more equipment choice for amps without remotes. As blasphemous as it might be to say this here, but using that even with a set of computer speakers would be a massive step up to TV speakers for friends or family that don't care as much as we might. Having a little subwoofer can make a massive difference in sound

    Arguably, the RSL iA255.1 is a better amplifier with far more options. Tone controls, sub out, high pass filter, Bluetooth, USB in/DAC, 7amp power supply. It can't be overlooked for an entry-level all-in-one solution.

I'd like to get an Arylic B50 because it has HDMI ARC, and then run the L and R outputs each to a cheap amp but be able to control the volume via the TV ARC functionality. Anyone know of a cheap class D that doesn't have volume control or allows HT Bypass functionality? Thanks.

      Unless you hear something in your system, it's difficult to say which is better. I have an Aiyima A07 (under $90) and a Keces E40 ($749 retail). To me the Keces is better, has more features and is better built. But as for SQ, it varies. The biggest difference I hear is on my Focal 807W in which a cheap class D isn't up to par. On Triangle Zetas, the difference is there but both amps sound great on it.
      So for me, measurements aside, there are performance/system matching issues. While alot of people seem to say the ZA3 is better than the A07, a few stated their A07 is better. It seems there is a bit more upper mids energy from what I read in personal reviews.
      Spec wise, the ZA3 is a powerhouse in watts seemingly made with quality parts, don't know about amperage output but it exceeds its specs in watts a bit. At the inexpensive price, in this hobby, its little risk. It's small, attractive and while lacking in inputs comparatively, it may be enough and has, I believe a variable sub out (I use RCA outs on the Keces) which is preferred.
      Would I use the ZA3 over the AXA35? Maybe, probably and one amp may be enough. If you buy 2 of them, and find 2 are overkill, you can still build 2 systems at a still less expensive price.
      I don't really use the A07 as I have 2 Keces E40s and would jump on a third if the price was right even though it is less watts and will always be more expensive. Been using 1 for over 3 years without issues. Also have a hegel and while better, marginally on my speakers and SPLs I listen to, I kept it in the event I bought something more "high end" that was hard to drive. I did try a higher end speaker and preferred the more budget options and while better in some areas, it wasn't in others. Don't see the need to up the ante and small systems, small speakers do it for me.
      Would I choose the ZA3 over a Keces E40? While I never compared the two, the little Keces impresses and I don't see needing to swap it out. But I may get one sometime just to give a listen and maybe use in an ancillary system or as a backup. Nice looking little integrated with the orange knob. XLR to boot for use with a dac that has them.

    Great video. Have you considered reviewing / showcasing older equipment? it's definitely an avenue that would keep in line with the "cheap" aspect of being an audiophile. I have a Wiim Pro feeding the optical input on a Denon AVR-2112CI, which in turn is hooked up to some Cambridge Soundworks M80s. Got the Wiim Pro used for $100, the Denon would cost between $70-100. The M80s are harder to find in good condition, but I've had mine for nearly 2 decades and they sound better than any speaker pair you could get for $700, maybe even $1000. Big 8" woofer, 3.5" midrange, and 3/4" tweeter, double ports in the rear, Mahogany veneer with red stain. I bought some Elac DBR62s and though they are great, the M80s have a much better sound and appearance.
    Also, I've been looking for a piece of equipment for my desktop computer. Right now I have a T9 Pro, but its pre-out does not change volume with the knob, so it isn't ideal to connect to a subwoofer. Any ideas?

    Moved to a small apartment and needed a small budget system. Been considering these small Class-D amps, and put together with either a Wiim Mini, or a DAC plus a Google Chromecast Audio via optical input. I'd never the less be constrined to small speakers, and went with the Micca RB42, based on reviews of the above wightsize bass performance. In the end, an end of year sale fopr the Arcam SA10 at $375 including tax prompted me to get that. I guess the attrraction of tradional Class A/B and the inclusion of a toroidal transpormer, built in ESS9016K2M Sabre DAC and a remote drew me to the Arcam. For sure, larger and more effficient speakers would be a better match to the Arcam. The result is decent across the board. 70's rock can be a bit harsh at times, but jazz is impressive, with a nice focused and sperated soundtage, that sometimes goes wider than the speakers, and always gives that nice behind the speakers placement. The Micca's do, with certain music, not dissapear and sound boxy. Surprising given their diminitive size, but going to play with placement and toe angle to see if that can be improved. Given I hade the Chromecast (casting Tida) already, my cost was was about $560, plus speaker cable. In the end, for me at least, if a tradiitonal amp is on some super sale, I'm leaning that way. Still may get a Fosi, just to compare.

      I don't really know for sure if my Ub5 speakers are getting enough power with the 48v GaN Fosi V3, but it does seem to be fine so far. The amp gets a little warm if they are blasting for a while but I haven't had it cut out or sound bad. Bass is a little more subdued than expected, not sure if that is because of power, break in, or if i expected too much, but the sub picks it up nicely. The woofers have great impact. Some reviews said they seemed rolled off in the high end, but they sound great to me, any more treble would be too much.
      I think I will save up toward a Schiit Vidar for them instead of upgrading opamps mono mode za3s though. If the v3 survives till then, I'll move it to rears or a desk with something easier to run.
      I would totally recommend the Elac Uni-fi ub5 at 199, though my experience with other speakers and amps is nonexistent.

    Like other commenters I am really wondering how the Wiim Pro/mini coupled with either of these amps compares in terms of sound quality to the Wiim amp. I hear reviewers talking a lot about the features of the Wiim amp but not really highly rating its sound.
    That kind of leads me to believe that a solution using these separate components might lead to better sound outcomes, but the Wiim amp offers slightly less good sound in a much more convenient and feature packed product.
    Any thoughts on this anyone?
