      C.rolando Remember too that Cat5 and Cat5e are not the same. Mostly what you’re getting when you buy or get a cable with a device is Cat5e; which works perfectly fine in a home or office business setting.
      You don’t NEED Cat6 unless you’re going to implement 10Gb, which is used in corporate environments mostly. And even in those scenarios the speed to the PC from the switch is usually 1Gb. The 10Gb is generally used between the edge/access switch and the distribution/core switch.

Heck my actual internet could go well over 200mbits, but local network is much slower. :(

  • @SilentShad0W679

    My lan on my router is only 100 megabit. If I got a gigabit switch would the devices connected to the switch be connected with a gigabit link?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Před 6 lety +1

      That's correct, normally when 2 devices connected to the same switch want to talk to each other their data stays within the switch and if it is a Gigabit switch then their connection should be 1 Gbps too (Of course there are exceptions to this in more advanced networks when there are VLANs and routing) but if data needs to go to the router (using internet or a connection between a device connected to switch and a device connected to router) then the speed should be 100 Mbps. Thanks!

    • @SilentShad0W679
      @SilentShad0W679 Před 6 lety +1

    • @Behfor

      Some Wireless routers allow you to install Iperf server on the router itself, if you have an Asus router with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware you should be able to do that.

      @@user-fh5hs3nq2u you can look into installing 3rd party firmware like openwrt and dd-wrt, they allow you to install entware which should have the Iperf server. I havn't touched dd-wrt and openwrt for a while so make sure to do your own research too.

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Před 2 měsíci

      @@user-fh5hs3nq2u I see. Another option would be to hardwire a computer that is also an iPerf Server to the router. Depending on the router and the computer, this connection could be 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, or 10Gbps. Let's assume it is 1Gbps. Now, if you use a wireless client as an iPerf client and run a speed test to the server, if the result is less than 1Gbps, this means this is the WiFi speed between the wireless client and the router. But if the result is close to 1Gbps, then you know the wired connection is the bottleneck, and your WiFi speed could be faster than 1Gbps. Hope that makes sense.

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Před 4 lety

      I understand, but this video was about internal network speed, and has nothing to do with the service provider or internet!!!. Every wireless router you buy today can provide 1 Gbps wired speed (regardless of what your internet speed is). You can use your internal network to transfer files between computers in your network without any internet connection. In this video I tested the internal network speed, no internet needed for this and you don't pay anything to anybody. I hope you got what I'm trying to say.
