I love this video because it explains the story to me within a few minutes itself the animation of the country balls is great and everything is super coherent in the same way I think everything should be able to be shown visually! It is better than it could ever be shown (taught) in school!

@@thertxspot2168 no they were by no means friends with nazi germany, Sweden was in a dire situation geographicly, during the 1920's and 1930's Swedish army had seen major cuts in their defense budget , so when war in europe broke out they werent really prepared . By this time Sweden was a fully functioning democracy and was governed by social democrats such as prime minister Per-albin Hansson, and they despised both Hitler and his Nazi regime and Stalin and his communist regime. But sweden really had no other option but to officially declare themselves "neutral" at that time , although inofficially they considered the Germans and the soviets as potential enemies, in 1939 Sweden had about 150-200 thousand regular troops ready for combat , by 1943 that number was up to about 700 thousand men, so they did mobilize.
Sweden had for a long time engaged in trading with Germany and their biggest export was iron ore from the mines in up north sweden, but the swedes also sold iron ore and ball-bearings to Great britain. They stopped all trading with germany in early 1944 , the swedes also tapped german telephone lines and caught Intel was always given to the british command. Sweden also threatened the Nazi's that if they were to make any attempt to attack sweden , the swedes themselves would blow up their mines or they would give conscent to the british to bomb their mines, thus ending Germany's supply of iron ore early on.
So the conclusion is Sweden was in a really bad situation early, with the occupations of both Denmark and norway by nazi Germany and the soviets attacking Finland , they were sorrounded by 2 major potential enemies
