  • Bromptons are Made For Escaping! Which is precisely what our Store Manager, Dayna, and her partner did at the end of September. They had four fabulous days to relax and enjoy exploring the East Gippsland Rail Trail on their Brompton folding bikes.
If you'd like to know more details about the trip, please have a read of the accompanying blog post (melbournebromptonclub.wordpre...) where you'll find their itinerary, packing list, very important tips for your trip - and more photos!

Excellent video. Good editing. Music not too loud or distracting. Just a bit repetitive after 15 minutes or so. Effective use of subtitles. Subtitles better than low-quality voice audio with wind noise. I'm always curious to know where to stay overnight where I can bring my bike into the room. Watching this gave me a better appreciation for the benefits of the Brompton. Like packing it up when you reached Orbost and taking the bus back to Bairnsdale instead of having to ride back the whole way. Thanks!

Brilliant, wish we had rail trails, it's all too hard for NSW. Thanks for the video.

There are some in NSW (discover them here www.railtrails.org.au/) but there also seems to be a lot more resistance to the idea of converting abandoned train lines to rail trails, too.

I formerly lived close to an old discontinued railroad line, now made into a bike pass. It was naturally flat and passed through some old woods and it was nice to use it in the morning going to work. Also with deer's to be seen in the nearby fields.

I loved watching your video. You certainly did have good weather. The trail in the video looked surprisingly good. Did you cut out the bad bits? Do you know if VLine coaches will carry full size bikes (non - folding)? Thanks for your efforts in producing this video.

      Hi Allan,
Thanks for your feedback! Our timing was excellent and I didn't really have bad bits to cut out. The trail had just finished receiving some really big upgrades and there hadn't been any sever weather events to muck anything up as yet. I do mention in the blog (link in the description) that some of the new surface hadn't quite dried out fully as yet and some sections felt just a little damp/sinky as we rode over them, and that hopefully a good hot summer would dry it out. That summer didn't eventuate, but even so I have to give a massive shout out to the Friends of EGRT do a really outstanding job at trail maintenance. We wouldn't be able to enjoy the such great rides without their efforts. (You can donate to these community groups.)
My understanding is that the V/Line coaches will accept full-sized bikes, but it might be wise to check with PTV staff first. You can call them on 1800 800 007 - they are very friendly and helpful. :) Dayna - BJM
