I painted my entire custom by hand. Didn't want to play with an airbrush. Heard about the marker airbrush and got one, and just found these. Was working with a canned top coat. Gonna try this on my custom painted Crossbone X-1 when it's painted and put together. Just waiting for an adapter set for the airbrush.
These clear coats really do work best with the airbrush adaptor or else you'll be scribbling like a madman (and frantically looking for spots you missed). I sprayed a kit with these recently and I got so nervous of it running out...
@@HobbyClubhouse I haven't messed with airbrushing yet. Just got my adapters in for the marker airbrush, so I can use it with my compressor. Gonna test things soon, and hope that my Crossbone turns out ok once I get it painted. Don't know how good I'll be with this stuff yet.
Great video. These are something I've been looking for since I heard about the Gundam Marker airbrush system last year. Question though, will they work on bare plastic with panel lines (ie. top coat bare plastic WITH panel lines already applied?) without causing the panel lines to run? Main type I'm thinking of would be the pour-type markers, or panel line accents. Also, what would be the normal procedure for simple stickers (not decals) like Gundam Eyes or sensors. Top coat then apply, or apply and then top coat? (For those of us who lack the skill/patience to paint tiny details)
The clear coat can safely go on top of the pour type marker, so you can use it without worries A top coat on top can make stickers on the body look very uniform with the rest of the kit, but for places like eyes and cameras, you might like the different texture of the sticker to stand out a bit:)
If we used it manually a.k.a painting it by hand, will it still gives off fume which is bad for lung/health? Thankyou and appreciate all of your effort for providing good content like this
Hm, I actually haven't tried any of them, so I can't say for sure, but my guess is lacquer and enamel will both eat right through them, if it's anything like other acrylic paints. Acrylic top coats I'm not so sure, it could go either way
I might be missing this in your other videos. So I apologize in advance. Are you using an air compressor with the marker airbrush system? If so, what PSI do you have it set at?
Yes I am indeed using a compressor with the airbrush system and it's set at 25 PSI, though there's a small air control valve on my hose that restricts it a little, but I can't be sure exactly by how much
6:57 And what about the marker GM-04? Is it possible to make it (as close) shine as the gold of the Gundams: Hyaku-shiki and Akatsuki, with the clear gloss?🤔
Great video, however i have one question, can this marker be used without the airbrush system to tighten up joints on a straight assembly gundam by adding a topcoat layer on top of it?
This is actually a really good idea and solid question! I hate having to break out my brushes equipment then cleaning them just to coat a single joint.
Btw the pour type marker is p sketchy cause I've seen it eat through lacquer and also alot more aggressive to abs compared to ur normal enamel wash like tamiya accent color
How many layers of topcoat did you apply? I bought both of these markers not too long ago and my worry is if I applied too much too quickly it would make my GM Airbrushed Guncannon get runny.
Your kits will look really lovely if you top coat it to make the painted areas fit in with the bare plastic:) If you can find these for sale, give them a try and I think you'll be quite impressed
would this work with metallic markers? I bought a pack from Amazon for some really thin gold lines on a model kit and ended up using silver on a sword that came with a transformer, but they both flake off when touched so I'm hoping to use it for both of those.
Anyone know how much is in this thing? if I just use it like a pen, would i be able to compelete all of the white panels on the MGEX strike freedom? Or do you need two or three? Im looking to apply clear matte and I cant find the spray can from mr hobby anywhere.
Question, i've both the matte and the gloss pens, and when testing them both out with the airbrush...they're quite weak, could it be because I haven't washed my parts or haven't mixed the pens properly?
Hm, it could be. They really are overall a bit less visible than laquer clear coats. You can layer them a few times without any problems and the matte will show better. The clear color is more like just the default marker sheen and doesn't ever get super glossy
Yeah, NO! I'm not going anywhere NEAR these things. If the info on the packet was that inaccurate, I dread what they DIDN'T write on the packet. And that's one risk I want NOTHING to do with. Hard pass!
They really do come with some strange limitations that people might not expect. Sure hope no one buys these only to find out they can't do the one specific thing they have in mind...
This is really too important and useful information for me. Thank you so much for providing it.
this is the best video on youtube on this subject. ty for demonstrating on a REAL KIT and not just a spoon!
Another good Gundam Marker review. Really thorough with a lot of useful information. Thanks for putting in the hard work to share this with everyone.
You're welcome as always! I had high hopes for these markers myself, and the pros and cons came out completely different than what I expected
Really interested to see that airbrush gundam marker! Thank you for sharing this!
That JamesGun, wow… it’s such a masterful custom! Well done!
Beautiful Jamesgun. Made that kit look brand new man!
This is p great for if u missed a spot for topcoat and u can just pair with the blow pen with zero hassle
this video encouraged me to buy some and try them out

Really great reviews dude!
Thank you as always my man!
Twenty years and ive never heard someone pronounce Gundam as Gun-daym
Yeah I know it's a bit different

Addressing that and phasing it out:)
Great video but I'm curious about something. How would these markers react with more standard lacquer, acrylic or enamel top coats over them?
Hm, I actually haven't tried any of them, so I can't say for sure, but my guess is lacquer and enamel will both eat right through them, if it's anything like other acrylic paints. Acrylic top coats I'm not so sure, it could go either way
did you try using this by hand on larger surface areas? is it uneven when applied by hand? or is it still viable when an airbrush is unavailable?
I might be missing this in your other videos. So I apologize in advance.

Can it used on dspiae marker? Without tearing the marker

So these markers are coating?? Man I didn't know that before buying...
Can you use it on just bear plastic or do you have to use it over the Gundam marker paint?
How many layers of topcoat did you apply? I bought both of these markers not too long ago and my worry is if I applied too much too quickly it would make my GM Airbrushed Guncannon get runny.
OK but, could you possibly use this to protect marker ink and then apply a regular top coat over them?
Thx for the review
Very good info, I just want to start to painting by using Gundam marker airbrush system and Don't know about top coating them after painting them.
Your kits will look really lovely if you top coat it to make the painted areas fit in with the bare plastic:) If you can find these for sale, give them a try and I think you'll be quite impressed
Sure, I will buy 1 each of this marker later on my local hobby shop there still so many stock of these.
Will this work with the Gundam marker affects test the chrome like natural finish
we need panel line test on mettalic and regular color gundam marker
how about to apply the Coat just for the sticker? Not gonna use bursh though... what do you think? is it okey?

So it can't also work on gold Gundam markers??
Would this be recommended for sealing in waterslide decals?
Same question here.. any answer?
Dunno about sealing quality, but you can use it to further obscure the borders on your waterslide decals, making it look painted on. Tested myself.
I don't see using this on model kits but I see myself using this for touching up figures that get a bit scuffed.
Yeah, I actually used the matte marker just yesterday to do just that and it works really nicely. Just uncap and scribble and job's done
How long do you let it dry?
Late comment but wonderin if this works with real touch marker
So, for metalic surface, the Gloss top coat will affect its luster right?
Yes, it'll look like the less shiny side on aluminum foil
Question, i've both the matte and the gloss pens, and when testing them both out with the airbrush...they're quite weak, could it be because I haven't washed my parts or haven't mixed the pens properly?

@@HobbyClubhouse I meant like weak as in, it comes off easily..but thanks for the advice! ill actually wash the parts im doing today!
will this work with tamiya accent panel liner after you apply and dry the top coat?
Unfortunately not. It's able to dissolve the clear coat and will make a bit of a mess
Can it used for sealing decal?
