    One thing that stands out to me about the EX that I don't think was mentioned much in the video was how watery it is compared to original markers, or at least the metallic green. It seemed to flow everywhere with the slightest touch and it takes quite a while to dry

  • @gundamnuggers8978
    @gundamnuggers8978 Před 2 lety +11

    I used to think gundam markers were blotchy unusable wastes of money, but recently after getting the airbrush tool for them. (To use with the ex chrome) it's actually vastly improved the coverage and consistency with the markers overall.
    So I hope you revisit this topic while using it 1 day.

    Popping in to say the metallic silver EX marker is ridiculously nice and very fun to use and add slight shiny details.

    I don't have much using gundam markers but one of the things I do that helps with have a better consistency is not to make the tip of the marker touch the surface. 1. Once it's start to pour the color raise the tip a little. 2. The capillary action will do the trick to get a better result in the consistency. *note some colors will work better than others.

    There actually is a metallic gold marker the GSI Creos makes that comes in a full set of metallic Gundam markers. I used it to make the yellow bits of my Hazel Custom gold as well as painting in thruster details and it worked great!

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 3 lety +1

      I think that gold one can be bought loose too, unless you mean there's yet another one, in which case I'd be super curious to try out.
      Have you tried the Tamiya X-12 Gold Leaf marker? You can't go back once you've tried that amazing thing

    • @kyoraku1149
      @kyoraku1149 Před 3 lety

      @@HobbyClubhouse I'm actually very curious. I saw some pictures of this advanced set with a gold that looks different to the gold which can be bought loose. However, I also found some images of the same set with just the regular gold you can buy separately.
      There's a video on youtube called "THE GOLD MARKER?", you can see a different gold marker within that advanced set, while if you google "Gundam marker advanced set", you will either find the same set with the regular gold or you will find the same set with that other gold.
      From what I can see, the only difference between the two gold is that one of them has a gold and black lid and one of them only has gold on its lid.
      Update:
      I found out that the sold separate gold marker has the code "gm-200", and the one from "THE GOLD MARKER?" has the code "gm-166" on it, meanwhile some of the pictures of the same set has the "gm-167" gold included instead.

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 3 lety

      @@kyoraku1149 I see now that the gold-capped GM-167 marker has its own name called "Red Gold", so it seems to be a distinct thing. Very odd...
      I can't find GM-200 though in my old 2015 catalogue nor the poorly documented Mr Hobby site.
      Man, I can do a whole video just for gold markers at this rate...

      @@HobbyClubhouse how does tamiya marker compared to the gundam marker ? In your opinion which one is preferable ? especially on the gold and silver color

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 3 lety +1

      The silver of the EX Gundam Marker is smoother and definitely better than the already-good Tamiya silver. The Tamiya gold doesn't have a true equivalent and there's only the ugly regular Gundam Marker gold. The Tamiya white is really glossy and still doesn't coat evenly. Other colors like Tamiya's plain red and blue are also glossy and give a more even coat than Gundam Markers. But more importantly, the Tamiya markers are enamel paints, so they work well on top of laquer paints

    Yes, some clog up for me. The EX white is excellent-had to use a lot for the HG Hi Nu's stock gunmetal colors (no apologies, I have no other way to paint, and it makes me happier than leaving them unpainted.) The EX silver is very shiny indeed-in my opinion the non-EX shiny silvers are good (agree to disagree) but I will keep using the EX on my loved models when I want to highlight certain details in silver.
    All in all, good experience with these, though I do not have them all (EX Dark Green-beautiful IMHO, but a bit messy-EX White x2-one clogged up-and EX "Super Shiny" Silver.

      They can be cleaned off with alcohol, so chances are, you'll already have some at home. It takes a bit of rubbing but they do dissolve the paint. Alternatively, you can scrape it off if you pick at it very carefully with something not too hard like a toothpick

      They are good for small details like head cameras. If you want to paint the whole kit though, they sell an airbrush specifically for Gundam markers. If you use the markers as they are to paint a whole Gundam, in my opinion it looks horrible and the surface is uneven.

    Uh hello mr. clubhouse! First of all thank you so much for these informative videos, i just discovered you recently and ive been binging your videos since. Especially all about these sort of topics on painting (like the ex chrome silver).
    But.. as a newcomer to painting gunplas, i have one question that's been nagging on my mind; what would you do if you want to paint joint parts? I want to try painting the entry grade rx-78-2 in ways that is the original Gundam 0079 anime accurate, which is to say white joints. If i were to paint those joints on the elbow on knees, there would be a risk of scraping off the paints while posing it wouldn't there? I really hope there is a solution to such problem.
    Thank you!

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much, glad you found the channel:)
      For your question, there are two big challenges. White paint is itself super hard to put on and even the EX one is still quite uneven and never covers up the bottom plastic that well. Not really sure there's an easy fix to that. I haven't had any success myself...
      The second challenge is the scraping-off problem which is sort of fixable in some cases. You'll need a tool to sand down the parts like maybe some rough sandpaper (400 grit or a bit lower) or maybe a metal file if you work gently. You want to sand down the walls on the white parts a little bit so they don't touch the gray part as much. It's much harder to do with the elbow, but this is generally how builders keep joints from running off paint (though it still happens to even very advanced builders, so it won't ever go away 100%)

    • @Shnibbledacat
      @Shnibbledacat Před 2 lety

      thank you for the reply!
      hmm.. i see i see! i think the sanding down the walls on the connecting white parts could be a great solution! fortunately the joint this time is very simple so doing the thing doesn't sound too hard. if it were something like a ball joint i bet that would be an even larger problem.
      and thank you so much for the information! i really do enjoy how thorough your videos are, and i'm always looking forward to videos with the topic of any sort of customizing! whether it's painting or modifying/fixing, that is my favorite type of content from your channel so far. any way to level up my gunpla skills is always so helpful!

    Can you use Gundam Marker EX with the Gundam Marker Airbrush system

  • @flamestoyershadowkill6400

    May be a good upgrade from metallic sharpie

      I've never used metallic colored sharpie markers, I wonder what their texture is like. They probably stay on really nicely though

  • @joseluisestopinaojeda9536

    Where can I purchase them?

      Hm, it does seem not many online stores have all of them yet. If all else fails, you can get them from 1999.co.jp, though you'll have to pay a little for shipping

      I've been wanting to do that too. I've been having trouble getting the airbrush system to behave consistently enough, which is itself a whole video when I figure that out... :)
