The only problem with the latter though is whether the fan kicks in in time to cool the internals when needed and then back to idle again. Anyone care to try?

I am not a serious gamer but I watched this cpu play games & it is way more than decent even without a dedicated graphics card. I got mine for $599 at Walmart online & free shipping. I did a lot of research & this was the best value that I could find. I would have liked a bit more RAM, but then the price jumps, but 8 should be fine for me.

Its a great device. Got the 4500u model as soon as it was showing on HP's page. Replaced the ssd with a 1tb nvme one. It ticks all boxes for me - nearly.. Its compact, excellent build quality, freesync display, good audio. Great device. Only one complaint is that they could have made the cooler and thermals better. (Also has single heatpipe). It is fine when running at 15w (temps max around 60c) but at 25w, temps reach 85c+ when on load (and this is based on ambient room temp of around 20c). Thankfully with the efficiency of renoir, you can practically get same gaming performance and better at 12-15w as to what you would on a 3500u unit at 25w

Great review, Andrew. Just one question: even though it doesn't have Thunderbolt 3, you can still connect it to an external monitor (4k, 60hz) via the USB C port and it will also support charging?
    Many thanks

Try out the video you play for display testing for HDR support right here on CZcams while browsing on Microsoft Edge ( Chromium version ). If possible, give Netflix a HDR try as well. Nice review...I think HP has a real winner on their hands with this one! If I bought one I'd go with the AMD 4700 primarily because you can't get 16GB of RAM unless you go with the 4700. I'd also go with the 400 nit screen (same as what you reviewed vs 300 nit screen)......The only key downsides to me are the glossy screen (vendors, please learn from Lenovo and provide a good matte display option) and the good but not great battery life. I'd like to see a test that shows the battery life at full screen brightness. (BTW, Josh provided this battery metric in his last review on the Asus laptop...very helpful metric...I'm jussayin....). Cheers.

Would you do me a favor and answer my very important question . Does its USB c port able to run for example 2 external hard drives, external monitor, mouse, keyboard and may be an ex speaker in the same time?. Another way to my question I don't need to carry a USB c hub that need's power to run but I need to carry a very tiny USB c with mulitiple outs (HDMI, AUX, USB A ....) in may bag and to be able to run all these things through this labtop's USB c on the go. Does its USB c has this much power or wattage? or how much the limit for this labtop or all labtops if there is a general answer for all type C's? . Thanks again and I'm waiting your answer kindlly.

This Envy(from Walmart) vs the Flex 5(from Amazon) at the the same price of $599 ....I think this takes the cake. The build quality seems far better , it's 0.5 lbs lighter, it's way better looking and the screen just obliterates the Flex 5....along with the Acer Swift 3 's weak screen. These advantages more than covers for it's 8 gb ram vs Flex 5's 16gb. These new AMD chips are absolutely amazing...I'm excited to see what's coming out next. A Ryzen 7 with a good Radeon GPU would be devastating...
Edit...the $599 x360 from Walmart is actually the 15 inch version and heavier...A review says the 8gb ram is upgradable though.

So far I'm really liking my hp x360, but I've noticed a small defect in the left hinge. Its slightly uneven and not flush with the body. You can only really notice it when the laptop is closed so I guess its not a big deal? just a small issue with quality control.
I've only had mine for a day.
