Hello everyone this is Eli! In todays video I am making one of my long thought of dreams. I am starting the swap of a strait 6 3.0 liter diesel into a single cab short bed tacoma. I have always been fascinated by the toyota 2jz, although they are quite expensive. So i stubbled across the Mercedes Om606, these engines were in an E300 sedan and are capable of producing over 500hp on stock internals. As well as being fully mechanical, meaning there is no computer running the engine, just a pump.
Anyways in this video I will be pulling the engine out of a car i bought, supping it up with performance parts, and getting it ready to be dropped into the tacoma!

Just got your videos in my recommendations. Like the content! One tip from a Mercedes mechanic about the glow plugs. Put a little dab of ceramic grease on the threads so they won't get stuck.
Is that Better than Anti Seize Grease? (The Gray Metallic one)

mercedes 605 and 606 engines are really good if you want to tune one you should buy stock turbo variant holds 500 hp on stock internals

Right on bro , I just bought a 300d non turbo , gonna drop it in a 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee so keep up videos it really helps me out
Just don't put a turbo on it and try to make alot of power, the non-turbo has weaker internals!

In the early 80s one of the company trucks I drove was a sr5 Toyota pickup with a diesel engine, totally bad ass little truck, pulled way beyond it's wait, haven't seen one since, I'd buy it in a heart beat, cool truck

Brilliant video mate. It's does make you think how many good things are built in Germany and made awesome in the UK, Audi RS4 cosworth, mercedes 190e cosworth, Mercedes McLaren, lotus Carlton and om606 dpuk. I'm sure there are more but seriously would be nice to see the Germans and Brits do more together to create these wonderful things
om606 tuning originated in scandinavia and finland also the best pump is made in finland 8mm mynämäki pump
You have no idea how many people would buy a 1/2 ton full sized truck in US or smaller trucks with turbo diesel.
Had an 82' Toyota diesel new. Ran 4 years. It couldn't drive out of sight in a week but it got me around!

Be careful, stick internals will bend rods over 500hp, 8mm is for race Application and 8.5 is nearly overkill for how much boost needs to compensate

Very very good video! Love it! Just popped the head gasket on my OM603 so good excuse to to head studs and bolt on a hx35!
You really should do glow plug removal by hand... really nasty ones need to be rocked in and out until the come out...using an impact can snap em off...

I think you took the title LITERALLY. They are referring to the OM606 being "like" a 2JZ but diesel, NOT EXACTLY IT being a 2JZ. Why are they compared? Because they both have 6-cylinder format, and both are very reliable. It's just an expression.

So had i know about the om606 before i got my 4bt i would have used it. But help me out here, are you saying the 2JZ is an OM606?
Engine mounts? Tans moved back at all? Crossmember used? Ecu? You doing the wiring? And lastly you gonna pass emissions?
Part 2 coming out soon. Custom engine mounts, custom trans mount (cd009). Fully mechanical engine, I did the wiring, not sure about emissions. Doesn’t smoke any more than most diesel trucks around here in Kentucky.

@@roberson131 thank you! I really appreciate that, it was a lot of work but definitely not impossible! The crank pulley is about 3/8” from the fan lol! It’s tight but works perfect in the Tacoma frame. Stock oil pan too. I also put a ford 8.8 rear end, custom driveshaft, and Mercedes radiator notched into the frame.

Stock edc are 6mm elements. Stock mechanical are 5.5. did you replace any timing parts or anything else besides the rear seal?
Sorry I was wrong on that. I pulled the head and installed heavier valve springs and locked the intake cam gear. Everything else is stock.
what size bolts did you use to mount the engine on the engine stand
Why use a Merc engine , toyota has a fantastic 4.2 l inline 6 mechanical diesel engine used on old Diesel landruisers

The 2JZ in the title is just a clickait. Nothing to do with a 2JZ, it's Mercedes Benz OM606 engine! And that's not bad, Mercedes makes very good diesel engines . . .
Om606 is often called the 2JZ of the Diesel world due to the fact it is a high revving diesel.
What the heck is that? Did they make a diesel version of the 2JZ or was it some sort of conversion?
Mercedes Benz diesel engine, also straight six, with twin cams and 24 valves, very robust. It's also highly tunable.

"Diesel 2jz" is just a saying. Straight 6 dohc 3.0l turns high rpm, similar to the 2jz.
