  • I built these four guitars over the course of the past year to raise money for the charity Help Auckland www.helpauckla... they will be going on sale on the 22nd of April, if you live in New Zealand and are interested in buying one there are more details on my instagram / davidbrynparker
If you can’t buy a guitar I’d appreciate you considering making a donation to Help at dosomethinghel...
These guitars are inspired by the look of a Fender Jazzmaster or Jaguar but with a few tweaks of my own. The body shape has been completely re-drawn to be less pointy, more curvy and is ever so slightly smaller all over. The headstock again is Fender inspired with my own tweaks, notably a headstock-adjust truss rod.
Each of the guitars is finished differently with different pickguard material and knobs etc. Two of the guitar bodies were built with Korina and painted black and white, the walnut body I left clear and then I had sourced a pretty amazing looking piece of alder which my sister painted with NZ native birds and plants.
The bolt on maple necks are reinforced with 2 carbon fibre rods for amazing strength and stability. The neck shape is profiled to be ever so slightly thinner than a vintage fender neck but still super comfortable. The Indian Rosewood fingerboard has a radius of 12” and a 24.562” (Gibson) scale length, which makes stretching for notes and bending a breeze.
The pickups are Wilde L90’s designed by Bill Lawrence in 1976. In my opinion they sound somewhere between a humbucker and a single coil. The neck has super lush warm low end, but with plenty of treble to cut through in the mix. The bridge has that midrange punch without sounding too aggressive.
The pickups are wired into a Switchcraft 3 way switch and a single volume and tone control using CTS pots. All of the control and pickup cavities are shielded with copper shielding tape.
The guitars are fitted with high quality Gotoh hardware all around.

You've got some nice ways of doing things. Usually I watch guitar making vids shaking my head and thinking "that's not how I'd do it", but I'm smiling and nodding with every little thing that's either exactly how I do it, or a clever choice to make best use of your facilities. Keep being awesome!

Haha thanks Adrian!! I’ve definitely tried some of the wrong ways in the past and learnt from my mistakes haha but I feel like this was the most optimal method with the tools I have available without investing too much time and money on jigs or a cnc… still a lot of work, not sure I’ll be rushing to make more unless I eventually do invest in a cnc

Haha thanks! Yeah I’m a little disappointed this didn’t do as well as most of my other videos, it was a really long process and I spent a lot of time editing it to try and keep it interesting! 🤷🏻‍♂️ just can’t tell what the algorithm will pick up! But I’m still happy to have sold the guitars and raised the money for help auckland!
