Visual Audio Sensory Theatre is Jon's most ambitious and creative album if you ask me (and is one of those rare albums that is near flawless front to back). He seems to have gotten safer as time has gone one. Maybe he worried about being pigeon-holed. but it would be great if he took those risks again and painted with that vast sonic palette we all know he's capable of.
i think this is far safer than his recent work, not sure if this is risky either considering it's just one big industrial grove. His music however just got real. i guess that's a main difference.
sometimes people really just have one thing to say and once thats said, they fall silent and frankly i think thats very real. out of your being real you have one thing to say and not endless things.

And sometimes, as the world keeps moving & feeling like everyone found success but me- I just want to scream how “I’m still here”.
I just remember the first time I got this album on my hands, I thought -This is the best album ever made since Disintegration, Downard Spiral and Black Celebration- But after this album the sound of this band became simpler and lost all its darkness... I wish Jon Crosby would take back the roots of his sound and make another master piece... So far I only got acoustic n' acoustic songs which hace nothing to do with his original sound. I wish...
Clark Dale - Yea, I agree. To me, they've gotten progressively less interesting with each release, though I can't speak for his work after 'April'; since I haven't listened to them. That's partly because I don't care for his mostly acoustic sound either, but also as I've heard he's gotten even more "indie rock" since then.

Music For People has true gems, (Last one Alive, Free, Lady of Dreams) but had nothing to do with his impressive debut: golden melodies, industrial textures, ethnic n' exotic sounds, rock and tecno taken at its most perfectly balanced hybridization. VAST (1998) is a timeless album. Music For People is a Great album too but focused more on simpler pop songs

The music certainly matured (April is fantastic) not heard the more recent stuff, he did say he was get going electronic again but not sure if he did.
If there was one true pleasure in life from the past it was discovering grimy sounding relatively underground industrial bands from the 90s and 00s as they always had the fucking dirtiest guitar edge and introspective / abstract / existential lyrics to expand your mind with any given song's unique conceptual architecture and emotional narrative. This was the kind of track you watched the progress bar on Napster slave away at 4.62 kbps, eagerly awaiting your 128 kbps quality download to be done in a hot 23 minutes for you to add to your fabulous collection of 233 mp3s which you played on the original skinned Winamp... fuck me, the early 2000s were a crazy time for the internet. Truly the digital wild west in that it was the time before the settlers came (Facebook, CZcams, Twitter) and mostly basic stuff like phpbb forums... a truly parochial shadow of its current self... anyway, VAST are good and this is a good track...
Judging by the comments I'm assuming this was in Angel? Pretty sure I read somewhere Touched was as well. First head of VAST back in about 1999 I think, had a CD called Stimulus Response, it was a mash-up of several different Elektra records artists. First place I ever heard of Staind (with "Just Go"), DDT (with "Walkabout"), Superdrag (with "Pine Away"), and of course VAST (with "Touched") as well as some other things.
Saw these guys and shook hands with Jon. Didnt stick around for the headlining act some obscure band I'd never heard of. That band was QOTSA. Small venue. Still kicking myself for that one.
Best opening song for the best album in existence! Jon truly is a one of a kind.
