I just turned 40, and sadly the older you get the more you look to the past. The past never loses its lustre, while the future always looks a little dimmer. This song will always send me back to my youth with a punch to the gut
That's disappointing to hear, I'm about to turn 31 and honestly feel the same way but at the same time hoping my best days aren't behind me
I just turned 44 .. once you've seen behind the scenes at the puppet show you can't unsee .. but don't stop chasing the rainbow ( the one we grew up with .. not the gay one) ✌️
It sucks that we get so cynical as we get older.....this is the reality of it though. We are doomed, unless we hit the lotto, I believe our best days are likely behind us.
One thing I do know said the apostle Paul, forgetting that which is behind and pressin forward to what lies ahead.
This song blew my 15-year old brain into another dimension when I first heard it back in 1998. Hearing it again at 40 has an even more profound effect on my entire soul (nostalgia is a hell of a catalyst for good feelings).
Same same same... also 40, also heard this in 1998. I was in a record store (remember those?) and they played this song. I was totally mesmerized, I went right up to the clerk and asked them what this song was, went back to the CDs and immediately picked it up and bought it. I've never regretted that decision.
I was 10 and they were giving this promo cd out with a book. I jammed out so hard back then but could never remember the name of the book or any of the songs/bands just a vague impression. Just figured it out and this is such a blast from the past. I still love it.
The Television show ANGEL (spin off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) introduced me to this song. It’s used in a great montage of a detective scene. What a great song
Funny story. I gave a copy of the album on cd to a Tv show music producer on a flight from LA about 5 months before it was on Angel. I was also sitting next to actress Stania Katic who also got a copy lol. The producer had window seat Stania was in the middle, I was in isle seat. This is way before her role in Castle. She had just filmed a movie called Pit Fighter. Holy shit what a walk down memory lane.
@@mikealfieri641are you saying you're responsible for it being on the show? Lol
Sad. Terrible shows both. They are examples of how crap hollywood n its writers can be. They need to be replaced.
This has to be one of the most underrated songs of the 90s. It's just so perfect in every way.
The album is perfect, and unfortunately I have never in 25 years found anything like it. It is so unique.
It is, and has been, one of my favorite songs of all time.
Jon hits you with that wall of sound with such force that can only be described as an orgasm in the midst of an atomic blast.
Eat your heart out Mr.Spector. Jon perfected your method.
This is what my wife played when she left. I've been crying for years
Poor bastard l know what that’s like 😓
I cried so many times on nothing compares, l grieve, hallelujah by jeff buckley
Angel brought me here. took me 23 years, but hey better late than never.
Whoever mixed the guitar and drums deserves a lot of the credit for this track. Just the right mix of a thick and crunchy without overwhelming the rest of the song. God bless good audio engineers.
The Beach brought me here. AJ Styles, years later, brought me back!
I remember this song from a bodyboarding video, and am glad I found my way back.
@@darrylhughes3328 I can confirm I've watched neither of those, had no idea.
It was in the trailer for The Beach, but not actually in the movie. Also, where I first heard it.
My mother used to always listen to vast before she past, shes the reason why I got into this type of freaky music and when I hear this, its in remembrance of her
My brother loved this.. he passed away along with my mother and gran a year ago. Miss them and reminds me also of them
This is legitimately one of the most epic songs I've ever heard, from the beautiful calming intro to the booming crescendo it's fantastic!
I was taken immediately when this song was first released. Hasn't lost it's effect.
I was working for a college radio station in Los Angeles back in the late nineties. This CD came across my desk, and I was legitimately blown away. Called up the label rep, got some extra copies and tickets to go see them at The Whiskey. Great show and I got to meet up with them in the VIP lounge after the gig. Good times.
music was better in the late 90s lol it was slightly digital but still mainly analog
You know this guy is amazing he does it all from his computer he's a one-man band One Man show pretty incredible
I was given this cd by the bassist Michael Cry when we were 18! We were outside of Soil, a ol’ goth club in San Diego & he was so excited about his new band!! And they’ll always have muh LOVE!!
deep, dark, breathtaking... what more can explain such a soul-searching song?
Some would say this song is... PHENOMENAL

The year is 2021 and I just discovered this song and instantly took me back to the 90s...such a better time for music
@r33mote No you can't honestly believe that. The number of better bands were worth it. Yeah some of those were shit but look at Alice in Chains, Tool, Smashing pumpkins, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Rage against the machine, Snoop Dog, Tupac, Biggie. What the fuck does modern music have? Mumble Rap? The same generic shit rappers who are nothing like Tupac or biggie. The same diarrhea cranked out alternative bands who have nothing to say. Nothing rock related comes close to any 90s bands except for 10 years and a couple others.
@r33mote are you 12 or something? Please tell me what modern bands beat any of the ones I listed.
I'm here because I was in my 20's for the 90's and I loved a crazy, wonderful, tragic woman. We listened to this a lot. Still brings back the feel of crushed velvet and the smell of incense.
This is sure to be an underrated song. I'll never hear another quite like it again.
WTH? How have I never heard of this band? Killer song to say the least!
Had a brief period of mediocre fame in the late 90's then went back to obscurity.
I haven’t heard of them either. I watched Angel I think and I found this song. Also they have a great song “don’t take your love away from me” Which I found on my own but it was in one three hill
@@lovehatedie That's Freaky ! I got a free Angel Album for getting to the Radio Station before they were gone ! That was about 45 years ago. (I'm 64 now)
The progression/transition at 2:15 is just brilliant. Coupled with awesome lyrics. I wish I had written that.
I haven't listened to Vast in years. I dated a girl for 3 years and this band was what we originally talked out. After we broke up I put Vast out of my mind and just forgot about them. I've deprived myself of an amazing band for too long. Tomorrow I'm digging out all my CD's and listening to them back to back to back. Holy shit they're good.
I don't know if this is weird, but this is one of my favorite love songs of all time.
Angel Forever!!!
I've heard it in Angel too, but I had discovered it in the teaser of the movie ''the beach'' 😉
This takes me back... I remember buying the CD around 1999? Timeless song. TY.
This is one of those songs that I'll set the resolution to the lowest at 144p and right click to loop and just continue doing what I was doing with other things just to feel a bunch. This song emanates a sort of obsession, wickedness, the ambient noises really fill the smaller spaces in a unique way right alongside the intense and up front drums; This song is a trip, like a trance and I love that in a song. Makes me imagine blurring a camera to accentuate a mind's rearing focus outwards from the world and inwards towards the sense, yet at the same time completely engaged and immersed into someone and the memory of such knowing that it's been broken without repair.
@@autentyk5735 A great question for a random and arbitrary seeming detail, simply that it's the least bandwidth to play on loop; Won't stall other tabs or activities and in most cases you'll find that the selection of pixels doesn't affect sound quality - there are a few that do increase the sample rate for certain songs. That being harder to distinguish as you move up from 144, 240, 360, 480 and above. If you want to imagine it properly, think 8 bit sounds with that chip sound and move up. Very similar to that pattern, going higher quality into synths the higher you go.
My exquisite taste in music brought me here...
I love how they've incorporated traditional Bulgarian music into this.
The vocals are so Bulgarian it is awesome and they include the sipsi flute so it has a Turkish touch too, but this kind of music is beautiful, the mix between Baltic and Anatolian music makes it so beautiful
I fell in love with someone amazing to this song...it leaves me breathless and melancholy every time I hear it. I miss him.
This band never got the attention it deserved.Such a great band.Been a fan since'98.
"Everworld" was what brought me here. A promotional CD for the books was sold at Barnes & Noble back in 1999 and this song was the first track on it. The lyrics actually fit pretty well with the story.
This was on a 411vm skateboarding video early 2000s
Has been 10 years, but finally, Wrestlemania 25 highlights brought me here
Angel... brought me here. :)
I heard this song years ago in the second episode of the first season of Angel. Gave me shivers then, still does now. Amazing track
@@amritpalhh9836 Yep Lonely Hearts, that episode is still vividly in my mind to this day.
I saw them at Lupos in Providence RI with Orgy, Disturbed, and Linkin Park and VAST was by far the best set. God this album still gives me shivers down my spine.
Maybe the most underrated song of all time.
I've just stumbled across Bulgarian folk music in the last couple of weeks. I'm not surprised somebody sampled it. It's unique and enchanting.
Got a demo CD with this song when a bought an Everworld book in grade school (Staind also had a song on there). This takes me back.
i don't care that this comment is 8 years old, i FINALLY found someone else who had that CD!
I cant get enough of the ending chorus. The delivery of it went well with the powerful instrumentation. But overall this song is a beautiful classic
I came hear because of Angel. Freak'n love this song!
Aj Styles 🤘🏼
I remember finding this on a Skate promo DVD back in the mid 2000's and fell in love with it.
@Justin MC no it was a DVD this was like 2k5 or 2k6 I specifically remember Bam was one of the skaters Featured like right around the first build up of the song.
Criminally under rated. VAST should be in supergroup status...
Perfect mix with Bulgarian folklore music. Combination is awesome!
@@springrain9438 I've no idea why my previous reply did not show at all, but the Bulgarian song which fragments are used is called Пиленце пее (probably because written with Latin letters contains a word that's been filtered)
@@xor_r0just came back and the first reply is there! I'm going to be introducing my son to this song and I know he'll love the extra detail you shared so thanks!

Brings back the late 90s/high school days. Great track!! Thank you!
this is the song that drove me to buy this whole album. and what an epic album, too.....I think it was back in '99. when I first heard this song, I was in a tanning bed. how funny....but I couldn't get this song out of my head,,,so I went to tower records that same night,,,and sang the song to the store clerk.! thank god they knew who the band was,,,i played the shit out of that whole cd for years to follow...& well, the rest was history.

The T.V. show Angel brought me here. This song was in like the first or second episode I can't remember which but I loved it ever since I heard it!!
one of the most transcendental songs i have ever heard. one of my all time favorites.
AJ Styles is the only reason I know this song and I thank him.
I'm very upset this was around int he 90's and I never hear it on the radio. I'm very glad I found this gem later in life and will have it on repeat indefinitely.
Whenever I am to speak "on" or do something of profound significance, this song is my fuel "beforehand"...this is such a BAD ASS track!
Here from that old YA book series that had this song attached to the back cover lol. Can't remember the name of it for the life of me.
I'll never find a song quite like this
You will never find or love someone like that again....cause everyone is different and unique.
But life goes on, and you can find better & love better.
You can love stronger, and even be happier.
You can find purpose...without dependence.
It can be real instead of a world that only exists in their eyes.
I randomly remembered this song but I couldn't remember the songs name. Took me quite a time of searching but it was worth it lol
This song touches me in a way that I simply can't explain (and no, pun is not intended). The lyrics, the background vocals, the etherial sound of the whole thing. I've listened to this song for a rather long time now, and I always enjoy it just as much as the first time. It's hard to decide between Somewhere Else To Be, Nile's Edge and Touched when it comes to favorites.
Angel
This song is a masterpiece not only for the text but because of the magical Bulgarian voices in the background.

such vivid memories.
This is that for me right now.
Happy New Year to all of you!
I remember.1998. WAAF. Boston. Ozone let this rip I believe. This track took EVERYONE! OZONE,, Last of the real DJs. Long gone are the golden years.... love out.
This is the definition of melancholy. I remember playing morrowind on my own listening to this VAST self titled album. Eye opening beauty.
Awesome. I totally appreciate that. I did that a while back to the vein of Skyrim...Though, Jeremy Soule's soundtracks are also awesome.
I forgot how much I loved this album… it’s so good. Gotta find my cd ❤❤❤❤❤
Bought this lp after seeing it on tv previews for the beach. Yet it never was in movie...lol ..well glad i bought it. Epic music by crosby.
Surely this is one of the most epic, moving, phenomenal, emotional, aggressive love/hate songs of all time? It's impossible for me to listen to this song without crying. A travesty that Jon Crosby wasn't recognised as one of the greats; writing the songs, singing, arranging, playing all the instruments... A sort of angst-ridden Mike Oldfield. Awesome stuff.
And for the best love song you've maybe never heard of: Blue Öyster Cult "I love the night".
Well this is a Phenomenal song
So underrated such a brilliant band. Back listening in my 40s used to listen in my 20s
What brought me back to VAST after so many years?
A surfing documentary that played this song while surfer was making his way down the face of what was then the largest wave ever recorded. That surfer was Laird Hamilton. The wave was off Maui.
It gives me goosebumps still.
Never has there been such a pairing of physical defiance and "I got this" mentality.
Utterly perfect music for riding a giant.
@@Plushpriestess Pretty sure it was "Riding Giants", but was probably repeated on "Step into Liquid"...both awesome! 👍

@@Xeema4869,
Angel or Angel the series (ATS) is a spin off of a show called Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
It is recommended you watch the 1st 3 seasons of Buffy, as Angel started on a,character rhere, however it is not needed.
The 1st episode of Angel will tell you a little bit about who he is and give references to who Buffy is.
He's a vampire, but he's good, and wants to help people.
In thjs universe, he has what's called a soul. Which basically means he has a conscience of what is right & wrong.
Other vampires in the show do not have that, so they are evil.
The show follows a similar theme to Xena, a character looking for redemption.
Yeah, I would check this show out.
