    I think this is the best break down of TWIZZLEs I have ever seen First is brilliant that you actually showed the “heel /ball of foot pressure as you turn. I have HEARD this is how it’s done and seen videos where I couldn’t see the slight rocking- but HERE I can actually SEE it in your TWIZZLE. Wow that is huge break thru in my understanding. Also that you are honest that is VERY HARD , takes years, and you can get very hurt doing them (I slipped off one edge and fell sideways onto my hip and broke it-maybe the only person who has achieved this drastic level of injury but hey - I go big or go home. So all of this info and your demo really tells the story of TWIZZLE. ALSO when you mention you need to be comfortable on ALL EDGES to do this. Very key!! Thank you for this video really so many tips. And also- the tip of if you are getting frustrated or tired go on to something else and come back. I also was v tired when I slipped on the TWIZZLE. I had already practiced and had a lesson but this was second ice session and I should have not pushed so hard. So just wanted to share. 😅

    I so appreciate the close ups of how your blade is acting on the ice. But even more, THANK YOU for suggesting that this can take years! So often I'm introduced to something new and I get terribly frustrated because it's never mentioned that it might take a LONG time, like months or years, to get the hang of it!

    Excellent video. Thank you for breaking each movement down. I'm a inline skater and find these videos really helpful.

      Oleg Altukhov - Thank You for asking. My skating is great. I am 63 years old , I'm having Fun & getting stronger. I'm skating an average of 3 times a week about 6 hours. Skating is my passion, Love it! I have to skate in public session because I am still working. My best is spinning, my jumps are ok and my weakness are edges, footworks but I am getting better. I am hoping to test adult Pre Bronze & Bronze by the end of this year. I watched your videos all the time. Thank You so much Oleg. You made such a huge difference in our skating. Really appreciative for everything. Lise 🦋 🎼 ⛸

      This is the most helpful skating video I’ve seen yet. I’m not ready for twizzles but, as a new skater, I’ve been looking at lots of different channels for pointers. This was such a clear explanation, with slow mo that allowed me to connect your words to what I was seeing. Subscribed, and I’ll be back as I continue to learn. THANK YOU.

    What I been training on is doing 4 outside twizzels, and without stepping down my other foot I twist my body and start doing 4 inside twizzel after. In the transition between i have to bend my knee low and stretch my free foot far back and hands forward to counter the rotation force. And then I can pull my leg back to get the momentum for rotating the other way.

      @OlegAltukhov  Před 4 lety

      Hi Peter, sounds about right, I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you are doing the Twizzles. Once you can get through them consistently, work on improving your appearance and lines. I'll make a video of outside Twizzles like I did the insides.

  • @Iridys

    Thank you for the video, Oleg! In reality I'm not quite ready for twizzles but my inner skater is amazing and tells me I should at least give the single twizzle a try. Who am I to deny my inner self. ^_^ Also, how the heck were you able to get that close to the butterfly!?

    I like the tutorial, get directly to the point in real-time with showing it. Comparing with other techniques for the training time and hardness. the video quality seems not as good as before. maybe so other tutorials as this one, such as back spin?

    • @OlegAltukhov
      @OlegAltukhov  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks Liang Ma! The video quality is because it's all digital zoom. Meaning I didn't have anyone to film me, so filmed myself. I'm taking freestyle now, so when I get a bit better I'll make jumps and spins.

    Do you recommend that the skater needs to be really good at 3 turns prior to twizzles?

    • @OlegAltukhov
      @OlegAltukhov  Před 4 lety +6

      Hi Danny, yes, and double 3 turns as well. No point in rushing the Twizzles until these are solid.

    Hi, Oleg! please tell me, do I understand correctly that initially the rotation is set by turning the shoulders, body and then the supporting leg? Или я ошибаюсь? У меня получается так, что я начинаю поворот и утыкаюсь зубцом в лед. А иногда получается неплохо 2 - 3 оборота.

      @user-qt1ik9wm4w Před 2 lety

      если вы упираетесь в зубцы, вы становитесь на носок, чего не нужно делать. Вращение идёт в виде переваливания на лезвии то вперёд, то назад - на 5-6 минутах это хорошо видно (ball - hill - ball - hill...).

    How do you avoid not falling backwards when you rock to your heel? I have had had bad falls because of that

    • @OlegAltukhov
      @OlegAltukhov  Před 4 lety +5

      Hi Nancy it's like said in the video, you gotta have really strong edges, all of them. Work a lot on backward two foot gliding, then one foot gliding, then one foot gliding on circles, then alternating half circles. Make sure that you are only doing exercises that you doable for you. Then when your control increases, you can take on more challenging things like backward 3 turns. Then double 3 turns. Then try doing Twizzles. Make sure that you solidify each step I mentioned before moving on to the next.

    Hi Oleg! I live in MD! I love watching your videos and how you break down the elements by showing foot pressure and body position. I am an adult skater and am still learning my basics (level5). I saw a move in the video link I pasted below. Do you know what the name of this is at 2:27 and could you show us how to do it? It is like a spin but she is stepping across the ice. It is almost like a two foot twizzle. czcams.com/video/Ywuw0ACPn5k/video.html
