👌👍💪🔥Спасибо
Am I going to get distinction If I do them like you?
As a coach I would say yes, but I'm not a judge. And a judge can give you Distinction or not. My honest opinion is that you should test when you feel ready to test. I have my students take their tests when I have confidence that they have a good chance of passing.
You're welcome!! I'll let you know when I'll be visiting Orlando again! I coach a lot now, and I plan to create videos again soon!!
this is harder than axels
I’ve been enjoying your videos. Are you finished making videos for The Book of Proof?
No, retaking the class now along with Linear Algebra. Lots more math to come!!
Isn't it a toad
Yeah you're right lol
I love the opening pan down from darkness into light. You should also be a cinematographer. Very interesting to watch. Loved how you said you weren't going to rest on your laurels right as you did a close-up of some laurels😅. That's awesome that you're taking proofs. I struggled with that class at first too but in the end I felt like it did the most out of all my math and engineering classes to settle my feet on solid ground, being conscious of what all my assumptions were. A lot of the issues you describe training for ice skating I think can be solved by moving to Alaska. That's my plan anyways - so I can live by an outdoor lake and go skating whenever for however long I want. That and be a seaweed farmer. Vaya con dios
Awwww you are very kind my friend!! When do you plan to move to Alaska? Why a seaweed farmer if you are an engineer?
I'm hoping I will be able to think seriously about moving there within 6 or 7 years, save up some money to start the seaweed farm. Seaweed, because I can't afford land, because it could be a good source for production of cellulose nanochrystals (chem E) which can form the basis of many materials - textiles, canvas, cordage, structural plastics. Also it's a good food source and I hope to be able to develop a large store of nutrition for the coming climate famines that will probably start to affect us in the next 20-30 years. That all sounds like a lot. Anyways the sooner the better cause I need more ice skating practice.
I've found I keep my balance better hydroblading with no hands (with upper body turned to the outside) or one hand than I did with two hands. With two hands I always end up falling off of it or not being able to get up because my weight shifted too much to my hands but I'm trying to fix it.
Yeah I've seen that form done before, if you can do it with no hands stick to it!
Please explain example 1.14
Sorry I just saw your message, do you still need to explained?
This is so freaking good!
Thank you!!
Today I ate ice trying this, learned not to rush it. Ended making 3 or 4 clean....it is a great feeling. :) Took me months of drills to be able to even attempt them.
Hey great job!! I tried creating a CZcams series where I would review skating videos, but there wasn't much interest. If you want to email me any videos I could review it and add it to the series. Figureskateroleg@gmail.com
@@OlegAltukhov Oh, nice! I'll send you some attempts next week (on inline wheels however, winter season is over in my town). :) Today it was the last day at the ice rink and it was full of kids so I didn't feel like trying much else than safe things.
Practicing this, I note most of the turn comes form your torso and arms going ahead of the turn, not your legs. Now checking in the video I see that is the case.
Yes, there is a cross twist, we use core and lower abs through hips, with our axis running from shoulder through hip, down to skating heel.
That fog is really cool! Totally does look like a scene out of a horror game. My hat's off to you -- I need to lose at least 30lbs myself but I just hate running. Dance Dance Revolution was the only cardio I could ever enjoy and keep up, but as I get older and heavier it's a bit too high impact. Ice skating is the next best thing but it's hard to do it often enough to lose weight.
Thank you!! Yeah, losing weight is a big commitment from my experience. I've gone from 190-160 and back. But I find that staying active, switching to low calorie foods (vegetables mostly), and gamifying being active makes it easier to achieve. Have you tried using a rower? What about a stationary bike?
Nice and cood ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
I'm glad you're ok. Be careful out there.
Awwww thank you!!
That area you went is a part of my normal jogging loop (when it's not below freezing out, haha)! You definitely chose the best spot for your jog, and I'm sure the rare cold weather we are having made it even more memorable. Enjoy your time in Portland! :) Also, if you're still in the area and looking to ice skate at all, there's a seasonal outdoor (covered) skating rink near the waterfront just south of that area that I think is open for another week or so. They are trying it out to help bring more people downtown. Besides that, there's the Lloyd Center rink, Winterhawks Skating Center, Mountain View Ice Arena, and Sherwood Ice Arena, and The Rink Exchange further south in Eugene. We're spoiled with a pretty good number of rinks here!
Thank you Grant!! I used to train at MVIA and Lloyd Center. MVIA was my first rink after all!! Don't have my skates with me but maybe next time!!
@@OlegAltukhov Oh wow, that's really cool! Well welcome back then :) Also, since you use Strava, check out the "ON PDX Store Group Run" if you're ever around on a Wednesday and want to join others for a jog around that area (or otherwise up towards Forest Park). I've found it extra motivating to join and see others jogging. I've been on a short break from jogging and skating due to travel travel and catching a cold around the holidays, but I'm looking forward to getting back to those activities again soon. Best wishes on your goals, running and otherwise!
Yeah everyone in PA has been sick a lot as well this winter, hoping you a speedy recovery and return to the ice and running!! See you around!
This was more useful than I think you might realise- your subtle emphasis on consistency in one’s own life is a reminder people don’t often hear these days. Thank you for this!
Thank you!! Glad you got something out of it!! ☺️
It’s so lovely hearing you speak on this. You make some very valid points & you have a refreshing way of highlighting what I feel are some of the critical issues that will either make or break a relationship & you make it make sense. I also loved your comment that “nobody rages as well as I do”!! Fantastic. 👍🏻
Thank you very much!! I hope things are going well on your end in Australia 🦘
This is going to be very cool! Is there anything you don’t do well? How are your knees, incidentally? Good form, sir!
Awwwww thank you!! Knees have taken a beating over the years, but staying active keeps me feeling stronger than letting my muscle atrophy.
Oleg, why don't you make skating videos?
I would but it takes too much time which I as an adult simply don't have (See Episode 4). I also tried doing video reviews but it didn't work as too few requests came in.
Are you Autistic?
I don't believe so, but I've been called crazy by those who know me best more times than I can count lol
@@OlegAltukhov you remind me of someone I know that’s on the spectrum. He’s really a force of nature. I mean no disrespect!
No offense taken. I am VERY different lol. Never been tested to fit me into a neat box so can't definitively say what I would be classified as.
Hi! How many laps around Magnolia equals a mile?
Hi! A loop around the cement track gets you to about 1/2 mile, but I find it best to use an app like Strava to keep track of your distance and time
I’m going to subscribe & donate so I get to use this for my CrossFit workouts…
Thank you!! And your words mean a lot, I'm glad that this helps you!
THIS IS GNARLY!!!
Your lungs are in great condition, by the sounds things!
You got this!!! Rewatch crew! Oh man that’s tough.
This is pretty cool!
Thanks for sharing. Good luck with all your adventures
Thank you!!
Difficult decisions you've making, dear Oleg. I wish that you skate as much as you can because it's so fun and good both mentally and physically. And you are an ice dancer- what about solo ice dancing for interest ? Have a happy new year , what ever you do, studying , coaching , running <3
Hi Ariane!! Thank you for your support but I have to focus on securing my place in the world first, then can consider what I'll have time for. At 40, money, house, and education are my main concerns.
@@OlegAltukhov , I understand very well <3
I think it would be better if you were running in the neighborhood.
Running in adverse conditions spices things up.
Good to know that you're still coaching. Otherwise giving up figure skating completely (stop going on ice at all) would be such a huge waste after so many years of investment in ice time and coaching fees. Figure skating is a very cruel sport, too much investment in time and resources yet too little financial/material returns. Even top athletes don't really have a long (or profitable enough) career. I am happy for you that you've found an alternative professional route in landscaping and computing studying. Thank you for your old videos on elements, they are very well made and truly precious gems. All the best for your future endeavour. Happy new year!
Awww thank you!! However, it's wrong to think that my time and money and skating was in any way wasted. I had an incredible skating career and it defines who I am as an individual. The lessons that I learned I can continue to utilize every day. And I got to travel all over the US as a consequence of training and competing, so I wouldn't trade any of that away.
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
You're exactly right, Oleg, our needs and priorities change with time and this is OK. It's not like you'll never skate again, it's just that skating isn't taking you to where you need to go at the moment and so you have to reallocate time appropriately to achieve your life goals. You're a goal-oriented person, you pick your goals well, and you have the determination to succeed. I'm very excited for the new tools you will add to your box, and remember you are adding new tools and not throwing away old ones.
Thanks! I still get to skate as a coach at least. My students keep my skills sharp via demonstrations on ice.
There's an art to disagreeing that we seem to have mostly forgotten. People live online in information bubbles and echo chambers for so long that they take the collective opinion for granted. The thing I wish people would understand is that no idea is holy or untouchable and it's quite healthy to have ideas be challenged and criticized constructively. That is the way that ideas improve and if you're at an impasse it's OK to respectfully agree to disagree. The solution to the problem of disagreement is never going to be to retreat further into the bubble and ignore and humiliate differing opinions.
While I agree with you in principle, I see too many people who take it upon themselves to show others the error of their ways. It's arrogant, and cringe, and completely pointless as nobody changes their mind and both sides always declare victory. I'm guilty of it myself. That's why I made it my mission to make a difference on the ground by being a landscaper / handyman. In fixing people's actual problems a lot more good gets done then trying to correct anyone.
you homeless or something now
Not homeless, I'm a pro landscaper / handyman.
Here’s a hint for number 49: The x and y variables in the set definition aren’t the x- and y- coordinates in your chart. Your points are (x, x+y). Try rewriting the set definition by replacing x and y with a and b. Then plot the points (a, a+b), keeping in mind that b is only integers.
Thanks!!
Nice, nice root exercises :)
Thank you Ariane!! The book is in the video description if you want to download it, I use books that are in the Creative Commons and freely available to download.
Nice exercises :) You're doing fine. Check the power of power exercise 9. Math is fun <3
Thank you! Yeah I initially got #9 wrong, but corrected it to 1/16 at the 11:30 mark.
@@OlegAltukhov , super fine ❤
hair!
😂 join me for my math stream most nights and feel free to ask skating questions
Hey Oleg. Sounds like an interesting idea and the skating videos could be really cool. I’m not into gaming so have not seen much gamer streaming, but Louis Rossmann does something like this while repairing Macs, and natalielawyerchick does one for court videos… both of which are very interesting. I personally find the live online interaction awkward, and prefer to watch recorded videos (some social phobia!?). Coding/math ones might be popular, especially if you are one of the only ones doing that. Hope that everything is going well with you, with work, school, etc.
Thanks John! Feel free to watch in the background if you don't want to interact all are welcome!
You should get the degree. You are interested in programming, it will be another accomplishment that opens doors with no obligation to walk through them, and it will make you an even more interesting person. You will be proud of yourself for accomplishing this goal, especially knowing you had to work much harder than others to achieve it. I know this because I lived it and I recognize the drive in you.
Awww thank you!!
Excellent detailed coaching as usual but marred by the loudness of the music, which is very distracting. Background music contributes nothing to the lesson and here it borders on foreground music, with the lesson lurking in the background. The aim should be to provide instruction not to make art films.
Well then join me tomorrow for Oleg's Parasocial Stream and make your requests
An excellent video. I wish I had had this model to inspire me when I was skating 40 years ago. Too late now, alas.
Dear Oleg: I have watched this video for over an hour.
Play the video at 0.25x speed and you can see the magical pose that Oleg holds twice in each cycle. At 1:26 he does the 3 turn and then holds the pose, then at 1:29 he does a cross over and holds it again. It's an X shape, with the skating knee bent, free foot off the ice, tjhe entire body leaned into the circle, the skating foot way outside the body with the shin, thigh, hips, torso and head all leaning into the circle, and the free leg extended out of the circle like a counter balance. This, more than anything, is the crucial "flying" move of this routine.
The usual tips apply. Rise up for the 3 turn, hold those edges, control arms from shoulder blades, and for gosh sake what ever you do don't hit that bucket.
I mean OK, you're you, but really, I've watched a lot of ice skating, a lot, and this is just one of the most magical routines I've seen.
Here are some questions: When did you move to PA? Why? Where did you live before that?
Great video. Not according to my "don't waste my time" and "step by step instruction" preferences, but I still really liked the video. I'm from Houston, I've seldome seen snow, that winter wonderland content was glorious!!! I actually learned a lot, which is not to say that I will ever be able to do any of it. I see how you are rising up for the three turn and then falling back down onto the edge. That, in addition to relieving weight on the blade during the turn, creates an extremely graceful "floating" effect. I see how hard you are leaning on that backwards edge and holding it for an extended glide. The way you lean your body while on that backwards edge creates a "flying" effect there. That is the most magical moment of your routine. I see how you are sparying ice while holding that backwards edge/glide, and in your intro I can see the clean curved trace and snow spray, so I can recognize from your figured trace what you were doing at that point oif your intro. The way you rise up and fall like that, combined with the way you hold/move your arms, creates a "jump" effect, making the exit of your 3 turn look like you are landing a jump, and you have that "floating back to the ground" effect that I love. I also see how high you are holding your arms and a swan shape and I see you puffing up on the head high pose to make yourself bigger. I've noticed before with your partner how agressively she uses her ankle to angle the blade to its edge, and you are doing that here as well. While most CZcams coaches stress the "press down, rise up, press down" technique for the three turn, in actual demonstration some don't seem to be doing that. They are so good they don't have to do that, they make the 3 turn look so effortless. I have been lax on that myself. "I don't need to do tbat. That's just extra needless effort. I'm beyond that. The coach doesn't do that. That's too hard. That doesn't feel easy or comfortable." But your video has taught me how crucial is that rise/fall, not only to make the 3 turn happen, but to give it that floating/jumping effect. I have learned your lesson, I will make that "rise up" an integral part of my 3 turn from now on.
