    That was crazily funny. I think lot of us experienced a new sense of freedom. "That thing I do, is not only legit, but it even has a name. That's not all, there is even stuff I never thought of" Loved it.

    👏 Hi Steph - Your perspicacity for the tin whistle owes its verisimilitude to your dedication, perseverance and love for the instrument. 👍 😊

    Nicely done with the glissando. It sounded like you were playing a slide whistle.

    One helpful tip I would add: you can play one note below the bell note (lowest note) by half-covering the bell. For example, on a high D whistle, cover all the playing holes for a low D, then extend your right pinkie finger to touch the side of the end hole to lower the pitch to a low C#. You can even cover a bit more (about 2/3) for a low C. This is helpful for adding a lower grace note to the bottom note or for playing a descending scale that drops below and finishes on the bell note (e.g., ..., G F# E, F# E D, E D C#, D). This works best on shorter (higher) whistles or if you have large hands.

    Aho Stephanie, I usually do the random fingers thing with my Native American style Flute after I've made an unrecoverable mistake. In private practice of a particular song I use it as a type of mental signal to myself to clean the slate and start over.
    As you say, most all of these techniques are common to the N.A.F. and the whistle and maybe a couple more wind instruments.
    Thanks a lot for this really fun video,

    I have used most (if not: all) of these on my recorders! I love alternative techniques, learnt them from Sarah Jefferey. Unfortunately I don't have any tin whistles as of yet, but I hope this will change!

  • @latemanparodius5133
    @latemanparodius5133 Před 3 lety

    One little trick I stumbled across: If your fingers are long enough, stretch your pinkie finger down and partially cover the end of the flute as you cover all the note holes. It gives an even lower note! If you don't have long enough fingers, you might have to get creative if you wanna try it.

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  Před 3 lety

      Yes, that's actually coming up on one of my CZcams shorts very soon! :) Definitely works better on the smaller whistles, but you can also use your leg to partially obstruct the bottom of the whistle too if you're sitting down :) x

    Hey @CutiePie, an embarrassing issue but very common for beginners - how to prevent saliva dripping through the whistle pipe? :S

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  Před 3 lety +1

      Honestly, you can't! It happens to pretty much every woodwind player. Don't worry about it at all! Just be careful what you eat and drink before hand, this can contribute to producing excess saliva (a bit of Google searching will help you figure out what to avoid) and also try to play with your lips a little tighter and the whistle slightly further out of your mouth 😊
      If your whistle clogs up often, try these tips too: czcams.com/video/aJTmp8ziA-8/video.html

    Hi. I am just getting started with Tin Whistle. I followed along the Paul Simon piece (sound of silence) and GOT. Plan to do the swallowtail next.
    My favorite Celtic piece is “the reel of Tulloch”. Would love to see a tutorial. Thanks for your work. Much appreciated.
    Also I saw a short on Warble. Are you able to half notes, by partially covering the sensors?
