  • An important check for satisfying the duality of systems is to ensure that Moment resisting frames are designed to resist independently at least 25 percent of the design base shear.

    Is it allowed to keep the thickness less than 150 mm as per IS 13920 - 2016 ? Please clarify.

    Code doesn't say you proportion stiffness such that 75% of the base share is taken by shear wall and 25% by MRF but it says MRF should be designed such that it is capable of resisting 25% of Base Shea. In reality the base shear taken by frames could be less but they must be designed for 25%.

    Hlw sir how to contact you?
    I have a problem using shear wall in etabs as in my results base shear increase with using shear wall in bare frame.
    Plz help

    What if column doesnt contribute by 25% of total base shear. How to give minimum 25% base shear to column in that case

      @sanjaykumawat8734  Před 3 lety +1

      If we make sure that 75% of the base shear is taken up by the shear walls independently then the remaining will be obviously taken by the moment-resisting frames.

    Sorry to say that this is not the right method to satisfy this requirement. Satisfying this requirement needs to analyze a second model with frames only, by removing the shear walls, under 25% lateral load and then compares, frame by frame, the story shear forces to those taken by the frame in the initial model.
    Please refer to section 7.4.1 of the FEMA P-751(2012) for a detailed example of how to satisfy this requirement (link below)

      Yes, I know it is not an exact method, but I was just interested in knowing what flaws this method could have...If you can please share your views on this....I just figured out this method during my coursework and found it to be reasonable...Thankyou.
