    Who knew watching a man paint a base could be so calming and mesmerising... if I painted as much as I watched these videos, I might actually get something done... great work as usual guys :)

    I just did 10 of these for my PlagueMarine KillTeam. Few tweaks of my own here and there, but your basic guideline and instructions game me truly excellent results. Much more dimensional and varied that I would have cooked on my own.
    Neglected the hazard stripes and other markings, but will add if I’ll need more in the future.
    Thank you for a brilliant tutorial and all the other great content!

    There are some excellent tutorials out there, but this one is one of the best. Not only is the emphasis on building up in stages, along with stop points, a fantastic idea, but you mention the science of things without getting bogged down in it (such as the gloss varnish for increasing the surface tention). Essentially "Here is what it does, and here is an example". Great stuff, looking forward to watching more.

    • @the_musing_kravist
      @the_musing_kravist Před 3 lety

      @@cultofpaint They are amazing kits, but also amazingly expensive and amazingly detailed, which makes them intimidating. If you're going to cover them, I'd be really interested in seeing how you tackle them so that they're ready reasonably quickly, but with room to improve and develop the paint job when there is more time. What I like about the way you've done this base is that there was a good varnish stage where you could've just stopped or paused, before you developed the weathering further. Quick question: how did you fiddle the hazard stripe transfer into shape for the base so accurately? They definitely don't come pre-cut!

    So now Grimdustrial is a thing, thanks for that alone. The directional pattern of the splatter would make a great subtle group marking. Line the bases up like a squad and have it come from one location across them. Great stuff, thanks again for sharing things that are easy to replicate and with great results. You don't even have to "just be super good and don't mess up."

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for that comment Rob. I first heard Grimdustrial from a buddy, Tim, and it's just a great way to describe that certain aesthetic. That's also a nice idea using the splatters for squad identification. With a lot more Necromunda on the horizon it might be time to explore some other sources of "toxic ooze"!

    Wonderful tutorial, I am following this cloesly for my Ironhead Squat gang. Any chance you could give some pointers on how you got the hazard stripe decal to match the shape of base? Did you cut it to rough size, microsol/set it, then use a sharp hobby knife to trim? Getting around that bolt looks challening. Thanks.

    What kind of gloss do you use? I tried to do some panel-lining/pin-washing following a gloss finish but the capillary action just wasn't having it. I used GSW Gloss Varnish 50/50 with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  Před 3 lety +1

      We use Vallejo or AK Interactive. You might find you just need to do a couple more coats if you’re thinning it.

  • @Vortagh

    @Cult of Paint are you sure this is the Light Green ink from Daler Rowney? Because I've been looking at their inks for a while now and what you have there looks a LOT more like the Flourescent Green one.

      @@cultofpaint thank you very much for the quick reply. I can obviously only look at stuff online and guessing paint from a screen is such a bad idea. But the fluorescent green is looking so so much more like the colour you actually paint. I guess I'll just get both and see. Oh and just to double check, I have W&N Sansodor here, for my oil paints, but that's the thing - it says for oils and alkyd. Enamel is neither of those and I can't find an enamel version of it. Am I overlooking something? Is the stuff usable for enamel paints as well? Thanks a bunch!

    Hey, I know its been a year but, are the paints used correctly labled? Dark sea grey seems like a lighter color than dunkel

    • @Bovrillor
      @Bovrillor Před 2 lety

      Yes, they are correct. Dark Sea Grey is really dark, similar to Eshin Grey. Dunkel is more like Dawnstone. Dunkel doesn't seem to be available in the UK at the moment, but you can get the same paint from MIG, product code A.MIG-0909
      You can clearly see the colour contrast at 1:34 in the video. Hope this helps :)
