  • Exploring on land is one of the main reason I started sailing. The few days we rode our rented motorbike around Flores were really amazing and the first time in 6 moths that we slept on land. We woke up very early one morning and hiked to the top of a hill and there watched the sun come up over the terraced rice fields. Pretty mind-blowing! On the way back to Labuan Bajo later that day the rear tyre exploded and we had a bit of an adventure sorting that out!

    Spent a few years in Indonesia and always appreciated how incredibly friendly and engaging everyone is. Going to a waterfall? Great, let's all go! :) Good luck having some alone time but love the smiles and outgoing nature. Beautiful shots!

      Yep thats it, you'll never be alone on the land and I love the but also being able to be on the boat and go anchor somewhere quiet is sometimes very appreciated.

    Some epic footage of the rice paddies Vernon and Maria. Thanks for taking us along the adventure . . . . as tiresome and real as it can be sometimes.

    So beautiful, those rice paddies eclipse the ones in Bali. Love it when you explore and meet people. Thanks for another great video.

    Mind blowing footage, looks like you are a great talent at making movies as well. Always makes me want to be there with you guys. Looking forward to get on my little boat myself and just learning by doing as you did and you did learn a lot as it seems to me, since I did follow all your episodes so far.
    I use you and part of your episodes to show my students how great it can be to learn things if you want to or have no choice in certain situations to learn and get things done.
    fair winds & more great times for the both of you

    Hi! been slowly catching up on viewing all your vlogs. They are awesome but had a good laugh at your comment you being 45 and getting to old to sail ..are you friggin kidding. Youre a spring galah buddy... i wish to see heaps more years of your vlogs yet ... might even come across each other one day on the high seas. Just going to start a circum of nz first tho looking at 2 years.

      I love it, it was an experiment as I'd never used something like that before but I'd never go back, at least not for solo sailing. Just from a safety aspect, the boom is always controlled. Also I feel it adds performance as I can add more downward pressure than a Vang ever could.

      @@SailingLearningByDoing Your reply is very helpful to me - thanks. 50 ( yes 50 ) years ago, my wife and I spent two years in Micronesia - from Palau over to the Marshalls. Your underwater footage (excellent quality) brings back the many hours we spent snorkling. Please take your time and take care.

      @@dejapex1 Wow, I would have loved to see those places 50 years ago. I plan on taking a lot of time as I really love to dig into local cultures and really explore the regions I visit. Today I just interviewed an older German gentleman that has been sailing with the same boat for over 40 years now and is very near to finishing his last circumnavigation at 83.

    • @AndreasEUR
      @AndreasEUR Před 3 lety

      @@SailingLearningByDoing hey Vernon. Wella There's multiple reasons. One is I'm not satisfied with the boat I have, I feel it's too small and I barely have room for my clothes. The second reason is that I still have some debt I need to get rid off. A third reason is amount of savings.
      I was planning of sailing south for the winter, but when they didn't work out and I ended up just stayijg in this marina I see no reason to keep the boat, as I would be better off selling it and buying an RV or converting a van to stay in while working to pay off my remaining loans.
      I think I'll have to look at maybe buying a boat in Mediterranean or maybe down in Indonesia. Then I could fly home to Norway for work, and fly back down to the boat if I wanted to do that. I'm not sure what I'll do yet. :) Sadly money doesn't grow on trees, and I doubt I'll ever save up enough money to get any kind of passive income.
