      Thanks Dale. Personally I can’t stand social media these days. It’s like everyone has just accepted that everything is fake and go along with it. The algorithms reward you when you fake drama and emotions. We will continue to keep it really and just hope we don’t end up like the dinosaurs.

    Nice to see Eli recovered. WOnderful friendly people. Such a change from our increasingly isolated communities that are suspicious of visitors. Beautiful sunset shots. Maybe have some school supplies or craft projects to hand ?

      Yeah it was amazing and we felt pretty silly complaining about something while being treated like royalty but it just got too much. Without Eli it would have been a different story I guess.

    8:39 = Rambutan fruit and DUKU fruit,and our Indonesian culture if we go to visit someone boat or house we are never "empty hand" (fruit,fish,snack etc) to service our guest who ever they are,but also have to be carefull because also we have bad people same as any other country there is nice person and bad person.
    may God always protect you where ever you are,and hope your channel bigger and more bigger ❤

    Very nice video. Yes the Indonesian people are so nice. Some places are nicer than the other's, but overall they are all nice. I guess places that are so out of the way to us foreigners are a thrill and interest to the people whom live in the area you're at. And definitely ELI will bring out the joy and interest of the villagers. I hope the deserts you received didn't go to waste, but went to the waist eh Marie. While Vernon was talking you sure were eating those delicious cakes, cookies ect lol. Seems like you are in a terrific spot. Enjoy yourselves stay safe looking forward to next video. You are looking so well the three of you .

      Yeah we ate all of the goodies, nothing went to waste but all to the waist yes. That’s ok though, I think the stress over the 3 days balanced it out.

    Heading north from Bira we anchored at a little island in the same group about 3 miles further north and also experienced a super warm welcome but there were only about 30 people in the village so it was a lot less hectic. Absolutely fantastic people up there.

    😅 Indonesia is definitely a place where copious quantities of patience is a requirement. And yes, you are an "orang asing" = stranger, no matter how long you live here most people will still think of you and treat you like a stranger. However, we are still, mostly, welcomed warmly.

      Yes true but where is that different? An Indonesian living in France or Switzerland for 30 years would still always be seen as a foreigner.

    I have been cruising Indonesia 2 years now. I am sure they mean well but sometimes you do have to tell them firmly with a smile to leave. Having some Bahasa helps. Lovely video.

      We are speaking enough bahasa to turn off people when we don’t want them, but hard to tell people who invited you to eat, install mattresses in their living rooms to make you and your son have a nap in their house, come with pile of biscuits and fruits for you, to go away cause we need peace. 😂

      I find it hard to do. We come to their country to experience the beauty of the place and the people who live there. I know sailors who literally yell at locals and tell them to stay away.

    Contact between vessels at anchor when both parties are experienced is inexcusable by the guilty party and the guilty party of the two is the one who anchors last.

      The type of anchors and the technics to anchor are so different in Indonesia than we can’t really blame them, as much as it can turn us crazy.
      They are not using chains but ropes , their anchor are just light hooks and their boat are acting super differently in current and wind than us.
      They don’t have fiberglass boats like us neither and they are used to bonk in each others as they are all wooden boats and not having damages from it, and there are always people aboard to push the other boat.
      This is part of the clash of culture too 😅

      @@SailingLearningByDoing I thought you had contact with another boat during the night and I " ASSUMED " they were at anchor too [ my mistake ]. It's even worse if you had a masthead and/or other light and they hit you.

    OMG, all those people on board, would have driven me crazy! You guys did well! BTW, you're burning 2-4 litres per hour when motoring? Those aren't big fuel tanks

      Yeah it was pretty hectic. So nice though and while at the time you want to get out of the situation, looking back it was very special. The engines are only 20hp and burn 1.4l each at 2500rpm. We generally crusie at 5kts with one engine only.

      They are all so curious about our lifestyle and what we call home. Privacy is anyway a foreign concept to them.

      This was a bit too much sometimes, especially when he was tired, but people were really careful with him.

      We want Eli to grow up feeling comfortable around all sorts of people. But yeah, it was a bit stressful at times when you could see he was getting a bit uncomfortable with all the attention.

      Yep for sure, always have 5-6 of all filters and impellers etc for each engine. Oil and fuel filters can be found in Indonesia quite easily.

      It’s always obvious if they’re trying to sell you something or bring gifts. We gave them some things too, some crew shirts and hats.

      No, and the first day when they offered us a calmar, we proposed to pay for it and they seems offended that we proposed and refused.
