This is much better than modern Nascar
Absolutely.
This should be the last Cup race in the chase just to make it interesting.
To bad Daytona is concrete and asphalt now ! What a great time they all had smiles everywhere and a big jump on the south turn exit ! Need to bring it back for the rookies !
I think it’s safe to say that everybody in this video is probably dead. The lady being interviewed at the beginning is making a couple of nice points.
You I saw that... I mean heard that. ☺️
My grandad won the race the following year. Bill Blair.
Now that’s racing👍
Wow!!! Used to watch old cars like this in 1961 when I was 5 years old with my Dad at the Bakersfield raceway. You just have to have the right stuff to do this.
My dad used to take me to Ascot Park in Gardena Calif. in the early 60,I think I was 9 or 10...great memories of time shared with my dad!
Imagine doing this now. They'd be racing pass million dollar homes and condos these days.. crazy !
8:37 commentator is worried about if this little spin hurt the driver 😂 damn safety has come such an unbelievable way, especially comparing it to Newman's incident
In the next gen safety is definitely an issue again
Well, racing safety should of come a unbelievable way. But if Newman is knocked out and severely injured from a crash, NASCAR has to improve its safety. What I recommend for NASCAR (look down)
Safer safer barriers, better car safety mechanisms, reduce the banking on the tracks, safer helmets, stronger roll cages, add wings for *downforce* to prevent flipping, make the body panels fly off incase the car rolls, 8-point harnesses, use equipment to prevent the drivers head from going everywhere to prevent concussions, make the steering wheel break off incase of a roll or hard hit into the barrier and add doors instead of making the driver crawl through the window.
@@vesnabernjak-ord8674doors like...remove the purpose of roll cages😐 cuz roll cages block the need of opening the doors and doors make the car heavier so its no wonder why they welded the doors shut
@@non43209 no? Where did you get that logic from? Not only is opening doors faster and less life threatening then climbing through the window there is no way the drivers would get flung out the sides from the harnesses.
Gosh ... I really wish the Daytona 500 was still on the beach!!! 🤣
New respect for post war cars and post war men! I wouldn't have the nerve to be a spectator!
Found this race at Langhorne, PA from 1951 on this same channel and thought the same thing:
czcams.com/video/Z3bvi4ZID4w/video.html
Wow the beach wasnt destroyed by developments yet!
The winner of this race was my dads life long friends uncle or great uncle. the friend you might ask his name was Jeremy Smith we call him “Smitty” side note: I said this about his crash at Darlington in ‘58 in another vid
And yes, I am aware that some of this race is in color, but I'm curious to see what the rest of it looks like.
I love how by the end of the race there's wrecked cars littered all over the raceway. Apparently the caution flag hadn't been implemented in the rules yet lol
Great race coverage. Thank you for posting it.
I've eaten at the North Turn Bar & Grill where the North Turn used to be, would've loved to see the racing there.
Compare this to the Nascar parades of today. For sure there is more focus on driver (and spectator) safety today but 100 mph in those old heaps must have been a hoot.
It's amazing to think that most of today's drivers weren't even born yet when this race was run
None of them were
Most of their PARENTS probably werent even botn
LOL. 3:47 "Fay Taylor gives the V for victory sign". No... she's Irish, that the "Up Yours" sign.
Beat me to it!
I learn something new everyday.
and THATS the way it was.
So crazy theres no safety for the spectators and crews or anyone really. Are the guys that crashed on turn three just sitting in that stand? That almost got taken out! That was close twice! I cant believe they survived. Suxh sn awesome video.
Danica Patrick got nothin on Faith Taylor!
Verygood!
good stuff...thanks for posting!
That south turn was the place to be to see the majority of the action. More spin outs, flips & crashes.........and even the finish line.
Beach racin!!!!!🏁🏁
Yall need to watch the Langhorne 100. Dangerous
Cool
Great classic video man! Say, do you have this in color?
Unfortunately i don't have this in color. I could colorize a few still frames but i don't have the expertise to colorize the entire video.
Oh, okay. Thank you for uploading this though. It's okay if you can't colorize it.
Nice to meet you.
Nice!
She is very excited to race today! 1:45
Check the roll bar on the 94 at the end of the video. Frankie Schneider (NJ) in the 88. Flock DQ for no roll bar. Suits and hats on spectators.
History too.
23:22 Lol!
13:11 talk about safety for those 2 men.
FOR MY BUDDY JIM HUTCH!
I swear these guys were made of rubber
Voice overs during the interviews were sad. Lady racer had headlights.
The high beams were on!
So "modified" means those winning '37-'40 Fords for instance could have a Cadillac or Olds engine or whatever they choose?
Nice! Just think..poor ol Japes was learing how to build a bike...muchless a car!
So they raced on the actual Daytona beach? 😂
uh yeah you might want to Google it instead of trying to make fun of it.
Shout out to Frankford ,Delaware
Preston Niblett
#94 wiped out in a bad spot and was a nice car until 5 more cars rolled over his.....
5:49
5:04 She got married at 17.
FBI, OPEN UP!
Repair guy is the best who is that guy lolo
Fast forward to the 1970’s, now NASCAR (Not Any Stock Cars Are Racing). Not one race car of the classes are built in factories as we know them. They are individually custom built in the race shops across the country. I gave up on nascar about 20+ years ago. I’d rather watch nostalgia drags, pikes peak hill climb or the rally races in Europe. Hell, formula 1 can be better than nascar.
What? You don't like all the cookie-cutter mile and a half D shaped ovals? But they're so exciting. LOL
Nascar loves their queers so I don't watch it.
I still hate Formula 1 anyway
Um, NASCAR is professional too. Use your head.
69 likes, lets keep it that way
It's sad I stopped watching NASCAR a few years ago can't stand it it sucks totally used to be great Davey Allison Dale Earnhardt senior you know the crew I have memories of NASCAR
What did Fay Taylor look like? For some reason I couldn't focus on her face. 🤔 Oh by the way that wasn't a "V for victory sign" 🤣
FORGET ABOUT THE RACE! THE INTERVIEW WITH THE WOMAN AT THE BEGINNING,SHE HAD SOME SERIOUS POKIES! I'M HUNGRY!
